I know a lot of people are hating on it for not being as cerebral as SAC (no Fuchikoma philosophy hours or drawn out geopolitical discussions) but my standard for modern anime is so low that this felt like a breath of fresh air, it's the first time in recent memory that I've enjoyed a series in its release year.Am I just jaded and unc-brained or is anime getting actually getting worse?
>>290889879Subtle baitmany insinuations and baked-in fallaciesvery nice
>>290889879Used goods.
I just don't have the patience to fall for bait like this anymore manjust believe whatever you want if it makes you happy, even if shitposting and irony are slowly eroding your soul
OP here, never mind you guys are way more cynical than I amglad I stopped lurking this board years ago
I have SAC on blu-ray that I still haven't watched yet, but if you're telling me that it has even more terrible politics and philosophy, as well as looking like butt and having an unfun major, I might just sell it without even bothering
>>290889879>my standard for modern anime is so lowThats because you dont watch anything, the 20s have been a golden decade of anime with special mention this year
>>290892835>the 20s have been a golden decade of animenigga what
>>290889990What if she buys new parts?
>>290892886Yep
>>290894721maybe silver, but there's been at least five anime I've really liked every season, compared to this time last decade when I just stopped watching anything
It tried too hard to differentiate itself from SAC and overshot the manga into almost parody territory. The manga is already different enough from the films and SAC to have its own flavor if you just played it straight.
>>290892886No he's right. The 20s have been far better than the 10s so far. I will say that 10s had higher peaks though but the average anime you watch in the 20s is better than the average anime you watch in the 10s that didn't turn into a big franchise
>>290892886The last several years have been extremely solid. Animation quality and aesthetic diversity has picked up a lot on average from the 2010s.
>>290889879I think they wasted the opportunity to modernize it. Despite touching such relevant themes like AI and political stuff about Israel, it decided to adapt an outdated 80s vision of it and censored the names of the countries. Instead of making it 1:1 to the manga it should have taken place in 2039 and really be a possible future for us
>>290896207This would only work if they got Shirow to write or revise and as we know already the director famously had trouble getting in contact with him. I don't think its that far out from our current reality though we just don't have the world wars that led to rapid technological growth
>>290889879Sadly, that seems to be the case. The bar for current anime is pretty low, to the point where remakes and sequels to decades-old franchises are going to feel preferable. Also, just taking the time to have decent animation is a welcome change to having characters just stand around stock-still and just slide around for movement is a very nice focus.
>>290889879But it is as cerebral as its predecessors when it wants to be; it just doesn't go into the navel-gazing that stupid people need as a signpost to show "THIS IS DEEP AND CEREBRAL"
>>290889879>breath of fresh air>unc2/10 made me reply.
