I am curious about /a/'s feelings and interpretations about how Fate works in Jojo's
I believe this topic is brought up again in Jojolion, but I have not read that so I mainly mean in the original continuity.
Fate is described as the literal force of gravity bringing people together. And when you hear about what DIO and Pucci's Heaven Plan was, a state where everyone knew what they were predestined to do, therefore giving them a satisfied state of mind, you can see that this force of Fate is just that everything is predetermined.
How do you see this?
On the one hand, it seems to kind of ruin the idea that anything the Jojo's do is exceptional since it was preordained
Or, do you view it as, because these people are good, they're destined to defeat evil - not they defeat evil because they're destined to be good
I suppose you could also view it in a meta way of Fate just being Araki's hand creating good endings ultimately

There's a lot to say about it. More than I could possibly fit into a 2000 character post.
But for the most part, I'm fine with fate being such a driving force because it feels less like free will is non-existent and more like causality is two-sided.
Resolve is just as important as fate. Luck and pluck, if you will.

I suppose rolling stone touches on this point

The way i see it in the jojoverse fate is predestined, but if you have a strong enough force of will you can challenge fate

From what I remember, Araki is exceptionally cultured and a smart person who has knowledge about lots of things. From the way I see it, he may have been playing with the ideas related to first cause in the fact that he named the first antagonist Dio (God) and subsequently shows Jojo bloodline fight against his influence. Not completely but I believe Araki doesn't believe in fate fully, he sees fate as fulfilling purpose. Bruno died but he only passed onto afterlife after his duty was finished. I use that example because this exact theme is more developed in part 5. I don't remember a lot about Jojo, sorry.

not a problem, appreciate the reply

It works however Araki wants it to work at the time. Araki isn't consistent or good at remembering how own plot points to analyze it very deeply.

That's just a zoomer meme though, the idea Araki forgets things easily
>>
>*Araki makes bites the dust to show fate is not ultimate.*
>"hrrrmm is everything predestined in Jojo?"
Go to sleep, OP.

what if bites the dust was fated to happen and eventually lose though

Gravity is the pulling of people towards their destiny or whatever.
Rolling Stone and the Heaven plan both show what it is, that fate and destiny are a real thing, but the wills of the characters can nudge it and change it. They can't escape despair and tragedy with knowledge of their fate (as was seen of Mista in Rolling Stone), but they can fight against it for a better outcome.

It's a lot deeper than this, but I haven't seriously talked JoJo in a long time. I'd honestly say JoJo is almost a religious work in that Araki created a new age religion with its own fables and characters, in a way completely unlike any other creative in the scene.

>Fate
>Resolve
>Gravity
>Calamity
>Mechanisms

Araki uses different words to describe the same thing but it's all the same. It goes all the way back to part 3 where we learn that Stand users are attracted to other Stand users. The universe of Jojo pushes things in a certain direction. Does it defeat the purpose of the adventure? I don't think so. Sorta like how you have free will yet the future's already been decided.

But it's not - Araki is extremely inconsistent, going right down to the art style
Stop holding him up as some sort of perfect mangaka and just enjoy each individual part for what it is given taken as a whole JJBA isn't nearly as good as Dragonball, One Piece or even Naruto

Theres a few layers to Fate and each description of it come from different perspectives of looking at the same thing. Each part a function of it studied to a given description.

First thing to note is that Fate has two forces to it: Justice and Calmity
Justice is the bend of Fate to have karma met, to have good triumph over evil. Following it allows people like the joestars to succeed, to have saved the day and do what is right
Calamity is the opposite but not necessarily. Its not evil winning, it just horrible things happening. Situations getting worse and worse, of peace being ended violently.

Gravity is the function of how things of Fate are pulled to be together, but thats not the whole of it. Like things, or things with similar end points, pull each other closer when they get near( stand users attract each other; why Rohan and Friends found the ghost alley) but they have to be near to do that. Thats where to other factors come in - Luck and Fung Shui.
Both are parts of fate, as seen with Jotaro and Dragons Dream. You honestly CAN just be in the right place or the wrong place at a given time. Luck helps you at any given point and knowing where to be helps even more.

But even then those chances still NEED to be taken. Thats Resolve and that either grants a set Fate (Will Zeppeli learning Hamon and getting fated to die) or help you change it(dont have an off hand example)

The whole of it can ripple and shift through major forces that last due to choices of even a single man (Dio).
Fate is a bit nebulous but I think its "If no one does anything its turns to disaster - but if someone can create Justice, can act on their own will, fhen they can create a Fate thats just."

There's really defining 2 forces in Jojodynamics:「LUCK」 and 「PLUCK」.
Fate, calamity, miracles, and mechanisms all fall under luck.
Kakugo, fighting spirit, hunger, and dark determination all fall under pluck.
Gravity is what links those two forces.
The greater your pluck is, the higher your "spiritual gravity" is. Or in other words, the more important you are in the grand scheme of the universe.
If you have high spiritual gravity, then fate will begin to revolve around you and you'll have greater luck. But be warned, because your luck can be temporary. It's very possible that luck is carrying you through smaller victories because your destiny was a bigger, more significant defeat. Which is the case for most villains and also Jolyne.
Spiritual gravity is also what determines your ability to obtain a stand.
This is why the virus from the stand arrow grants you a stand. Because the virus attacks your body, and you need to overcome it. Some people are only weak because they've never really been tested, but can rise to the occasion when push comes to shove. Rising to the occasion increases your spiritual gravity.
This is also why carrying a corpse part grants one. Because Jesus has incredibly high spiritual gravity, to the point where even carrying just a small part of his corpse makes you a main character of the universe.

In essence, luck is narrative favor, while pluck is narrative importance.
Joseph and Kira are high luck, high pluck.
Bruno and Jolyne are low luck, high pluck.
Pocoloco is high luck, low pluck.
Random NPC's who exist just to die are low luck, low pluck.

he also inserted rolling stones in the middle of the climax of vento to show that you can change your fate, there's just always a chance you've change it for a worse fate
>>
Fate isn't real, it is only as real as a person believes it to be

so how was Narancia's death fate?
