>>290896390I think what is confusing in the show is that it isn't very clear what the stakes are. As far as I'm aware, the ACTUAL tournament they need to win is the internationals. THAT is what gets them the money to afford long term treatment for Maria. What they're currently in is the japanese tournament that allows them to compete in the international one. Nanami's worry is that the sunflowers won't be able to win internationally, which is why she wants her troupe to win nationally and go on to represent japan. As far as I understand it, it seems like sumeragi has enough money to be able to afford this surgery (probably, unless she just went into massive debt) but long term treatment to give her the best help she can get will require them to win on the world stage. The other side of this is that specifically the reason she was trying to buy out the sunflower troupe would be to stop maria from working herself into stress, and it's somewhat unrelated because even if she did buy them, she STILL needs to win internationally to properly help her. So in her eyes, the himawaris are putting them in danger by potentially preventing her main troupe from performing in the competition that really matters. I think this whole part could have been laid out better desu. I'm not even sure I'm right

Personally, I think that if they want to go with something realistically grounded narratively, they would have the sunflower troupe lose to nanami and have them be torn up about not being strong enough to go on, but then nanami would thank them for try and tell them she's going to win for her sister and she'll tell them to keep on practicing so maria has a home to come back to when she's better. They made it very far, but the gap between them and sumeragi is just immense. And again, about nanami being upset at the himawaris, I don't believe it was explained properly, but I think what is the case is that namami was always paying for her treatment, BUT, the proper treatment she needs requires winning the international tournament and the sunflower troupe was threatening that because of their naivety and huberis. If they somehow beat her troupe, then lost in the international competition, it would be owari da for the clown. I believe that's the core of nanamis's seething anger

Without the sunflower troupe, she can only ever be half alive, even if her condition improves to the point where she can live a relatively normal life. She is right, though, because maria IS being immature and irrational. The mature and rational thing would be to sell the troupe to Sumeragi company under the two conditions that 1) they're allowed to stay together AS IS and continue to be a refuge for any future orphan girls they collect, essentially acting as a subsidiary of Sumeragi as a whole. And 2) maria takes it fucking easy and just hangs out with them and does something simple like sells tickets or lewd mizuka photos to patrons. The issue with the buyout before is the the girls wouldnt have a ringleader and if sumeragi put someone in charge of them, it would feel like an outsider, like a stranger, taking over, and that might be very hard for these girls who've lost alot in their lives. With mizuaka there now, it would be an easy transition and not much would realistically change.Still, at the end of the day, if every character acted rationally all the time it wouldn't necessarily make for intresting characters or stories
