His gimmick is just that he is legitimately a true blue gary stu and everyone just has to deal with the guy who walks the path of heaven. He's a truly arrogant ass that's hard to like, but the way everything plays out makes him ultimately enjoyable to follow as the one moving through the story.Also, doubling back, it helps that Elaina's in a really fucked up and morbid world, so even when she does fuck up and condemn people to horrible fates, or fails to help people that any reasonable person would, at worst it's just par for the course with the places she visits

They both involve traveling and different settings each chapter, but one story is focused on the interesting new setting while the other story is focused on what adventures Elaina has.This isn't really the reason why people like Kino and people don't like Elaina, but it is the big reason why there's a large difference between the two stories.As for Lina Inverse, she's supposed to be a comedy protagonist in a comedy plot which occasionally tries to have some dark evil demon villains that show up, some completely different from both. Her setting is much more black-and-white, where the badguys deserve to be fireball'd and where Lina being an asshole is depicted as her being an asshole (and frequently getting comeuppance).
