So Nadeshiko has told them the story about the mysterious solo camping girl and seeing Fuji-san at night. Here's another representative shot of this exchange that's showing the character voiced by my favorite VA in the biz and a certain amount of thigh that's probably just coincidental as to why I chose it.
Chiaki turns down Nadeshiko's request to join the club. They're just too full for the room they're in.
This makes Nadeshiko sad, which one must never do. Aoi realizes the mistake immediately and tells Chiaki that they could get a bigger club room if they had more members. So, they agree to let their third member join the club.

It's a bit jarring when you first see it, but the purpose is to get us to actually see the camping sooner, which I think is important when it's so early in the show. If it had been told strictly chronologically, we would have basically had like 5 minutes of camping at the end where rin just sets up shop and then we would've had to wait an episode for the full camping scenes. Keep in mind that nadeshiko's scene from ep 3 would have also had to have been in 2, if they were going chronologically

Ena starts texting Rin to find out where she's camping. Information that Ena can absolutely 100% be trusted with, because as we've seen she is a paragon of discretion.Plus some playful banter.Incidentally, I started trying to learn a bit of Japanese last year, and these texts are super useful reading practice for an anime. One of the things I really appreciate about this show is not only the text on screen, which is often extensive, but the fact it's generally very casual, doesn't use a ton of kanji, and it's full of little slang and such. For example, Rin responds with うい at one point, which is hiragana, and normally it's written as the katakana ウィ, because it's a foreign word, the French oui, for yes. And that's okay to do. And who would have guessed any of that if not for an anime showing it happen? This isn't the sort of thing you just get from formal study of a language.A lot of the vocabulary shown on screen is also common food words.
We get some nice scale shots. Fuji's pretty far in the dstance, but takes up a lot of the background.
Earlier, Rin was seemingly stressed out about the cost of camping here. When it gets cold just sitting there she decides to walk around a bit and get her money's worth at least, and warm herself up in the process of moving around.
She could also get into her sleeping bag and sit in it to stay warm.
Not my style of camping, but I do appreciate the view she gets.

We switch perspectives to Ena for a while. She's still lying in bed.
Ena also has a cute dog, and Ena considers going for a walk with Chikuwa.
But it is very cold and windy out.
Ena decides not to go out today.
We get shots of the camp dogs every now and again, it's a fun interlude.

This episode keeps hammering on the scale of Fuji-san, too. If in the first episode it looked kinda close, but small, because of how clear it ended up getting. This one has more of a haze to it, which combined with its sheer scale in so many shots, really drives home that Fuji is a big mountain. Here we see the gradual slope up, on the left, which suggests that the distance we are from Fuji is actually at least as long. It probably slopes up at a similar scale between where we are and the peak. So we're closer than episode 1, but it feels farther, and thus bigger. We're also in a much bigger campground with a big open sky but have mountains all around.

A little flashback to where we left off before the time jump forward to Rin camping again. Nadeshiko and Rin meet officially at school. Nadeshiko thinks this means Rin will join the OAC immediately, become an extrovert, and get a total personality makeover. In a lesser anime, that's what would happen.
But this is Yuru Camp. Rin isn't going to just join the OAC and become a new girl. Introverts are actually respected. I love this show so much you guys.
I like that rinchan was self conscious enough to feel bad about shooting nadeshiko a chilly glare when joining the club was brought up. Obviously she doesn't want to be rude to her on purpose, but she did threaten her solo camp time. perhaps they could... futari solo camp??? regardless, chiaki and aoi already knowing her by name may suggest that they already knew her and asked her the same question, perhaps after seeing her reading a bivouac magazine or something camp related and were met with the same look of abject disdain

I'm gonna take a little break before I start dropping images and webms from episode 3, I gotta do my getting /fit/ with Nadeshiko thing and grab some dinner. But it's a great second episode. The new characters were fun. We get our second camp starting. Good dogs.I don't remember the first time I watched these episodes and how I went through them but I think it was pretty fast, probably the first three or four in one sitting.
It's the dawn of a new anime. Things are heating up in our hot pot.

The moral of the story that we got from episode 2, from that scene with Aoi and Chiaki meeting Nadeshiko the first time, is that there are some smiles you must protect at all cost, even if it means putting up with a little discomfort, like a small club room or a solo camp for two. You do not disappoint Nadeshiko.
That, and you should enjoy nature's beauty. Whether that's your boyfriend Fuji-san, or a sunrise.

Regional specialty from upstate NY (I lived there years ago). Many different variations. In my case, I've got some leftover breaded chicken I'm reheating in an oily pan in my oven, and I'm gonna toss some leftover french fries that I gotta make a dent in because I always just freeze away any fries I get with takeout and my freezer is filled up with french fries right now and it needs to go away and I hate throwing food out. On top of that, I'm gonna pour over a hot meat sauce and baked beans. Any sort of hot meat sauce is fine, but I make mine with hot dog spices and cayenne.So, a bunch of garbage tossed together in a plate, it's a garbage plate. Very comfort food.
I tried to make a stitch of this scene but I don't think the poles aligned properly at any point after the initial movement. Above my pay grade. I probably could have made it but it would have taken me a long time fucking around in ps

Chiaki shows us the secret.My secret is to think like a Chicago hot dog. Celery salt. Mustard. Onion. I'm not dealing with sport peppers or relish or any of that. But I add in those things with the usual hot dog spices of mace, coriander, paprika, and garlic. Cook that in with some vinegar and cayenne, with some beef, some tomato paste (or ketchup if you want). Makes for basically a deconstructed hot dog. Poured over the fries, then whatever underneath. Official garbage plates usually have a pasta salad or some other things, I'm just throwing in some leftover chicken.
I feel like this stand is not particularly safe. It looks like a breeze can blow it over desu. I remember the campfire stands in futanari solo camp, those looked much more sturdy and safe as they had a trough for the wood basically

I believe that's all the stitches I have for ep 2. I think I made them all except for that one I mentioned. Sometimes I find that if the shot is panning, but does not pan enough to get something else of significant value on screen, it's not really worth the time to make the stitch as it'll just look better in the standard display ratio. This tends to not happen alot in yuru camp, usually the pans they do are meaningful, but I have seen a few shows that do these landscape pans that just end up being like an extra 100 pixels or something on either side and you wonder why they even bothered instead of just making it a better composition. I feel like alot of the time it's a crutch for animators to make it look like something is happening when in reality it's just a budget saving still

That was a close one.

Nadeshiko's sister (did we get a name yet?) seems skeptical at the idea, but she does apparently agree.My garbage plate turned out great by the way. After reheating the chicken I put it in the meat sauce while it's finishing up, and then reuse the pan and its oil to reheat the fries. Makes the breaded chicken nice and soft and juicy and keeps it hot. Sauce sinks into the breading. Just move it on over, flip it so it's coated on both sides, then when the fries are done plate the chicken, toss on the fries, then pour over the meat sauce.

Bit of a reversal here. Last time Rin watched as Nadeshiko ate her ramen, here Nadeshiko waits and watches Rin try the hot pot first. Maybe just being good hosts and letting the guest dig in first. Maybe just hoping it turned out alright and fearful of judgement and watching for reactions. I dunno, just noticed it.
It's apparently warm and cozy.
Nadeshiko tries some and talks with her mouth full. She likes it too, and in a moment she will finish all of the rest of it.

Maybe a bit of an underrated aspect of the show is that the outfits are always changing. They don't do the closet full of 20 copies of the same outfit thing. And they're all pretty cute. I mentioned liking Nadeshiko's flannel earlier. Rin's gray sweater is also pretty nice. Fits her well.

It's brighter than the moon, so Nadeshiko doesn't want to stare into it very much. And she's still sleepy. So she naturally crawls into Rin's tent and goes to sleep.

The camping climax has obviously been reached, however the emotional climax of the episode follows shortly after. Nadeshiko enters Rin's rent for a few more minutes (hours) of comfy sleep. Looking cute as a bug in a mug in a hug. We've seen from the start that as soon as Nadeshiko learned Rin's name, she immediately started calling her Rinchan. Right to first base, in glorious nihhon thousand folded friendship terms. Sometimes girls take forever to take this step sometimes BOYS ::vomit emoji::in SoL shows never do. But Rin accepts Nadeshiko's friendship and calls her by her first name here. Beautiful subtle storytelling you wouldn't even really pick up on if you're a filthy casual anime watcher who doesn't understand the intricacies of nippon nameing etiquette

And another important reminder.All-in-all, another great episode. The main takeaway for me is just that everyone's fine with Rin being how she actually is, and not trying to change her. Aoi and Ena seem pretty wise about it. Nadeshiko is maybe still coming on a little strong, but doing so in a respectful if clumsy way. Chiaki is a bit of a goof. But she knows who Shimarin is and isn't actively trying to recruit her or anything like that. Even if she knows a fourth member would maybe mean a bigger club room.It's just... nice. Everybody's nice. Everybody's being nice. Nice.

I really like the idea of linking the two plots of Nadeshiko in this two-parter, where she's both trying to fit into a physically cramped club room and then also pushing her way into Rin's campsites. In both cases she's uninvited. She was initially treated like a robber by Chiaki and when she first met Rin in episode 1 she scared her and made her actually run away in fear. Here she just shows up and starts cooking. But her enthusiasm and clear enjoyment of the activity, and the perks she brings to both make her welcome by the end.Ena the puppetmaster is also pretty interesting. She's quite lazy, detached, wants to stay comfortable. But then she's also living through Rin vicariously in a way, and then tries to encourage Rin to have fun with Nadeshiko because they're both interested in camping. We don't see her sending Aoi and Chiaki Rin's way however. Does she know that Rin specifically wants to go camping with Nadeshiko already? Does she know that Rin already turned down the others?I do sort of wonder what the others are thinking when Nadeshiko comes back with photos of yet another camping trip, when they still haven't been camping themselves.

I think rin would have been put off by the whole OAC suddenly showing up, but meeting nadeshiko again felt familiar enough to not set off and schizoid bells in her bun. Ena truly is a genuis.As for what Aki and Aoi felt, I doubt they'd be upset about Nadeshiko beating them to the punch, so to speak. Keep in mind that these two are friends and though we only really see them discuss the core of the show, it's likely that they have other intrests they share, too. So camping to them is something they want to do but they're BROKE and their tent hasn't arrived yet so they probably just didn't see it all that pressing to go out and CAMP because they could easily just have fun hanging out.

>>291048181I'd bring a one person tent, if you insist on a tent and there's just one of you. They have room to sit up in, generally, and generally also have a vestibule area to stash your gear. I've been camping with just a tarp though and it's not really that much more exposed than a tent you can zip up. Your main protection is from the sleeping bag itself (unless there's a bunch of bugs to eat your face, but you can use bug netting as an alternative). What you have over you is just to keep you dry, really, and stop the prevailing wind from whichever direction that is. The biggest downside to a tarp is you don't have poles keeping it up, you'll need to find two trees that are close enough together to hang a line, or improvise tent poles in the wild yourself. Both doable, but it does dictate where you can set up your camp more than a freestanding tent. Plus a nefarious Chiaki might come along and snip your lines. But then we also saw what she did to that tent pole. She's a menace!Really it comes down to your level of comfort and how much you want to carry. I recommend always taking your gear with you on a hike first, even if it's just pacing back and forth for an hour inside your home. There are a lot of conveniences you can have with added weight, but as I've gotten older I've found I'm willing to put up with much less convenience in order to have less weight and have more energy when I get to camp.Unless it's starts pouring rain and you're trapped in the thing to stay dry and survive (always check the weather report), you'll probably spend very little actual time in your tent. Unless you're a very seasoned camper you're not going to sleep all that well that one night anyway. Either from excitement or just discomfort/unease. Expect less than your usual amount of sleep and for the tent to be used for only that duration. On longer trips, or with repeated trips, you can get used to sleeping any which way.

What does everyone think of Chiaki?
>>291116824When I originally watched it, she was my least favorite yuru because I thought she was a little bit too, idek how to describe her, not really abbrasive, but sort of genki in a way that isn't nadeshiko comfy. Like she's too "loud" or something. But upon my rewatches I learned to appreciate her more and think she's a good balance for the group. She's very silly and goofy which adds a layer that's otherwise kinda missing and her silly fat face puffed cheeks she pulls is cute. I now believe that all yurus are best yurus, much like how all keions are best keions. There is no need to rank them in that way.
