This anime unironicaly changed my life.Something about the scientific explanations of the process tickled my autism just the right way for me to start learning about cooking beyond recipe memorization.I'm still a lazy ass dumping frozen vegetable mixes in a rice cooker, but I'm trying to improvise and adapt now, and my idle thoughts are full of spice blends theorycrafting.

Thought the finale result was underwhelming because ties are gay also I'm not sure if this was the problem with the adaptation or the manga but it's never conveyed if Kiriko is at the same level as Jan because it felt like the judges scoring felt more half baked incomparison same with Celene. Jan winning on virtue of everyone being dumber and less vindictive than Otani was not nearly as satisfying though I guess he did prove his point that everyone in the culinary world is just a gluttonous slob. But overall this was very good and apparently there's another season underway.

Celene is also pretty comparable but is way too experimental and serves generically east Asian fusion food rather than Chinese dishes.
Great series. Hope it gets a second season that keeps the same passion for the source material.
