And he also has to figure out himself who is this god and why he wants to kill him and his family so bad since his future self couldn't. The stakes were raised cause we learn what can be lost and uncertainty was preserved on whether Rudeus can avoid all of the bad things we're shown. Of course, it's not like this execution was perfect, but it avoid many of my gripes with time travel. Rifujin used it to create agency for the characters and stakes as opposed to killing them outright. Anyone with IQ above 2 digits can reason this out.

Last episode gave me the impression that he went back in time in this flawed form because, in his former timeline, time or something else was a factor in pressuring him to act hastily rather than do meticulous research, but now I am not sure.
