What did you think of the show? Did you like it?I think it's one of the better shows this season has to offer (not that I watch that many shows, mind you).The animation is superb, the characters developed very well throughout the show, and end on a satisfying note. If I had to nitpick it'd that I still can't get used to Waka's older voice.All in all I think it's a very good show.It's a shame that not many anon watched it.

While the samurai were the class that ran the country and are often seen as roughly equivalent to European nobility, they were technically "only" the warrior class. The imperial court was made up of the actual nobles who theoretically outranked the samurai despite holding little real power. /ourguy/ was one such noble. The IRL Oniyasha having him as his personal teacher was extremely abnormal and just goes to show how highly Yoshimitsu thought of him.

And, despite some flaws and obstacles, I think it succeeded in conveying its message. It is refreshing to see a work with such an earnest commitment to examining art and what makes it, and anything else, "good". I'm just about the opposite of a Zen Buddhist and I still found its resolutions compelling.I've been back and forth about the anime changes. For a time I was as irritated as >>291114593. But taking the whole thing in, I now see them as trying to make the best out of the limited runtime. Satsuki's reduced role is the obvious example. I would have very much liked to see her parts. And the second in particular contributes to the story's themes. But thinking about it, there just simply wasn't enough time. Chiharu's addition was a way to add back in another supporting character that wouldn't take two full episodes. There are some things I'd have done differently, but it was always going to be a struggle to adapt a manga that is too long for one season but too short for two. I love what they did with Kogane, though.I do think the first few episodes were the highest quality and I'd have liked a bit more from some of the later dances. But the show was very consistent with few appreciable dips in quality. The one exception is actually my biggest complaint; the 3DCG backup performers. It might seem nitpicky, but they are a distracting nuisance that lessens every performance in which they appear. If there is one thing about this anime that I could change it would be them.I'm picky and only watch one or two anime a season. And I am very glad that this was one of them.
the ending would have been better if oni actually was trying to compete with inuo ON SCREEN rather than told after the time skip. i felt nothing about him pivoting to immortalize sarugaku because we never actually got to see him do any of that outside of the lion dance. i wish the sawashiro character would have made a bigger impact on his art and the devil-shoulder kogane was around more. nigga hit like 15 years old and his knees gave out lmao

Though it felt a bit rushed, it was interesting to see the birth of Noh depicted as a stripping away of the performer's self, and I'd be curious to know whether that constitutes the traditional interpretation of Noh. On the other hand the show kind of felt all over the place at times, jumping from theme to theme and often losing its momentum (the timeskip in particular really hurt it in that respect), and the characters - perhaps somewhat ironically, given the Noh ending - never really captured my interest. I could not bring myself to care about the angsty hobo friend or the cripple and I've already forgotten their names.

Really enjoyed this, and thought it did a much better job engaging with its themes than Sayonara Lara. I haven't read the manga, so don't know what they botched exactly (I did get the feeling that it was rushed in places), but ultimately really liked the anime original characters Ishiya and Chiharu. Thought the middle was a bit weak, but it had a strong beginning and end.

Emphasizing the self, as in the case of striving for an intensely personalized form of artistic perfection, is very much not ideal from a Buddhist perspective. Oniyasha's dance, stripped of the ephemeral and illusory Oniyasha himself is more in line with a Buddhist concept of good. That's why he is "enveloped in the world". He has trimmed away the artifice of self that stands in the way of awareness of the oneness of the universe.The concept of the unwilting flower helps to communicate this idea. No matter how good it is, Inuo's dance dies with him. Its goodness is derived from the impermanence of his self. Oniyasha's outlives him by centuries, at least. There's actually one thing related to this that the anime cut that I think they could have afforded to keep in. Both Oniyasha's father and Zojiro copy his dance. In both cases it is brief and done privately. But it foreshadows that his version of good was one that existed beyond himself. And the merit of this can be seen in how the inability of Zojiro's goodness to be transmitted to Kogane contributes to his downward spiral. Meanwhile Oniyasha is able to include a random village child (and Ishiya and Chiharu in the anime) in the final performance.Personally, I'm more inclined towards what Nijo said to Yoshimitsu before. The impermanence makes it better. In my opinion, watching a flower wilt is the price of admission to see it bloom and carries its own beauty anyway.
