In regards to your spoiler text: Senshi joining the party wasn't arranged by the demon. That was happenstance/luck. Them defeating the dragon was through their own efforts. Sure Senshi was an mvp, but it was not arranged by the demon either. The first time the demon was making an obvious move (apart from providing fountains and resting places, which happens for all adventurers) was when the dungeon eaters converted the hilt of Kensuke, so the people of the golden castle would recognize them as "the foretold saviors". That's when the demon started betting on Laios' group being useful. Marcille's announcement was not some argument based on hindsight. They went there before anyone else and defeated the fucking dragon. Period.

If anything, he sabotaged them. I think winged lion started seriously considering Laois as DM when the gang was on much lower levels, close to getting to the locked door.

Them not beating the dragon here provided no merit to the lion's goals, so I assume it's just Kensuke acting according to its monster instincts, in this case self-preservation. Kensuke acting as a key to the door did seem like intervention though. Not sure how much power the lion can exert at this point in time and where the line is drawn. I guess he has to mask whatever he's doing, because Thistle can override it if he takes notice.
