Was Angel's Egg originally intended for theaters? Basically all old OVAs were made in 4:3, because they're designed for TVs, but Angel's Egg is in widescreen. I've just learned that the film supposedly did get a limited theatrical release in the 1980s. Apparently the old VHS version is letterboxed for widescreen rather than cropped (according to online information. I don't have my own copy to verify this).
