Super no Ura de Yani Suu Futari did this as well and pissed me off because it wasn't needed at all. However, I like it here because the whole story builds up to this moment. We already knew that Yasumi wrote to Teshima before this point, but we didn't know when or how she received the letter. I also think it is a really sweet scene. After everything Teshima went through, she had the comfort of finding out that it wasn't pointless or in vain. She had a positive impact on someone else's life through her art.
