This manga is scratching my extremely specific itch for fantasy with spooky elements that doesn't rely on misery to be creepy, and I'll be extremely pissed off if this gets axed.

>>291255186It has been ages since I last watched one of Burton's films, but the vibes are quite similarOne thing I like of this manga is how most magic beings follow a "fuck around and find out" principle instead of being plain evil (there are exceptions, like the shelves, but it could be that they are trying to protect the books in a twisted way). A lot of old folklore is just like this, which is why it's so spooky. Also their designs are 10/10 in terms of being cool, eerie and just the right amount of edgy.

His design and drawing skills still aren't to par but he comes up with interesting concept for his characters (the reaper lady last chapter and the spider librarian without a face).He should work harder on his writing and pacing on top of the design issues, so far it had some cool moments but there's no wow, money shot page. For example if they showed a cool, maybe gigantic spider at the bottom of the library it would have served as a money shot double spread and then it would've been great misdirection for the librarian himself also being a spider for the chapter climax.I still think it's gonna get axed in 2 or 3 volumes, the MC is getting a little better characterisation but it's still far from good and early chapters need to establish a plot hook and a character hook really fast, while Hokami here is taking his time. That's a real gamble there.
