It's just hard to be a long running anime and make a story about the "next generation". You quite literally grow up with the original character, age with them. On top of all of these continuations just being soulless cash grabs, it's hard to form that connection with a stranger that's just related to them, and making them look and act like their predecessor does it no favors and only pushes the cashgrab allegations harder. Nobody cares about Boruto, no one will care about whoever Ichigo's kid is, and when One Piece eventually ends and Shueisha tries to milk it with a sequel no one will care about Luffy 2.0.
