One thing that actually bothered me about this episode was that the resolution for the princess was her accepting and synthesising with her dark self. This obviously makes no sense, because the better outcome is to always defeat evil, not to compromise with it, much less integrated within your own soul. I get it, it's fucking hot, step on me dommy princy etc., but it's fucking cynical writing of the worst kind. It's also bizarre within the narrative's own meta structure since one of the obvious goals is pursuing this heroic idealism despite the despairing bleakness of the setting. Fundamentally, it's just another episode of them orientals not understanding Christianity and trying again to subvert that which they do not understand. Par for the course for another cellphone novel, I guess.
