The ending had such flaws in several places. Another such flaw was when it had the reveal that the aliens were actually humans who had been wronged, yet the crew just kept being bootlicker soldiers for the corrupt government instead of trying to spread the truth. In some scenes it's implied that the rank-and-file soldiers on the ship were gradually going AWOL because they couldn't bring themselves to ignore the truth and fight for the corrupt government anymore, like why the crew has dwindled so much in a comment at the start of the swimsuit episode.
