How do you feel about standard paperback western manga at least from Viz going up to 14 dollars? Manga companies tapping into the ''special edition collectors market'' with all the deluxe editions, boxsets, omnibus and hardcovers? I feel like they're going to lose their main demographic and end up in the place western comics are with collectors, I won't be shocked if they start doing variant covers. Massive books are uncomfortable to read as well and what sucks is some series are out of print or only printed in the hardcover edition and it's the only way you can get them is through the ''collector editions'' at least with western comics they tend to have options but manga doesn't if you want to own Trigun you buy the insanely overprice deluxe edition or outrageous prices for the out of print paperbacks. Jojo you can only buy in hardcover editions. These companies are greedy and a lot those manga buyers are sucker.

That BOTI is the worst edition in the market
>Reading left to right

Horrible

You must hate pre-Tokyopop manga in English then because that was the standard before they came along but at least sometimes you got the art in a bigger ''American comic size'' but it's still crazy they don't reprint BOTI flipped, it's 2026 like you think they would but laziness I guess, cheaper to reprint what they got from the 2000's.
>>
Are western manga like Trigun different from other genres
>>
>>291335850
They can’t in this specific case, It was a petition by Samura. This is why I bought the Italian edition
>>
We're screwed.
>>
>>291335892
How does a single volume cost $165 in shipping?
>>
>>291335884
I see, I'm not that bothered by flipped manga and I do like the US comic size for the old ones but I don't really like anything bigger than that I'm not a fan of oversized comics of any kind even more so when there's a lot of pages.
>>
>>291335905
I don't know but they're selling these ''first editions'' like they're freaking golden age comics history repeating it's self but golden age books are actually rare due to the paper being recycled in the war.
>>
>>291335944
Do people actually buy them or is it just retarded sellers demanding ridiculous prices?

Yes, idiots are buying, it's like the 90's with comics and baseball cards but not as bad. (yet)

>You must hate pre-Tokyopop manga in English
Nta but I do, absolutely shit. Dubs and flipped manga are part of the few things I am glad we've moved away from.
>>291335892
Isn't the gunslinger girl manga selling for a huge price? It's pretty rare to find one nowadays from what i've seen
>>
>>291336100
Let the people that want those things enjoy them. As an enjoyer of pure untranslated Japanese media it shouldn't affect you in any way.
Even those absurd collector prices only apply to the first print and the first volume.
>>
>>291336001
>actually falling for this
It's well known that when this happened in the past, for a lot of these listings the buyer and seller are the same person (often repeatedly buying and selling the same item over and over again to make it look like there's an upward trend of the prices) and they usually go to the media once the price gets high enough to try to trick a small number of marks before the market quickly collapses.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's literally the same group of people behind it who have been pulling off these scams since the 80s.
>>
>>291336220
>Let the people that want those things enjoy them
Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with someone else enjoying them. I was talking purely about my own convenience.

I've never been a fan of capeshit and western comics in general(with the exception of some euro stuff) and I don't get this obsession with people that collect comics just for the sake of collecting.

I'm buying Centuria's volumes to support it because I unironically love it and want it to survive. It's my first manga I've ever really followed. Does buying volumes in America actually matter though? I'm not sure.

Some of them fuck up the art so bad that you genuinely can't understand the action because of different panel flows.

is there even any english BOTI print that reads right to left?

No, fuck them.
>>
>>291336263
How do they affect your own convenience? This isn't the 90s where you VHS are your only option and importing difficult.
>>
>>291337075
Yes anon that's my point. They no longer affect me, which is a good thing.
>>
>>291337075
I wish I could go back to the 90s and live life properly. I would fix so many mistakes.
>>
>>291336300
It's a high people get from knowing they own something with ''value'' even though lot of the books aren't worth that much or shouldn't be, I will say one thing though about western comics is at least with everyone being obsessed with value of things are usually always in great to good condition even when they're not worth anything because it just seems to be a habit comic fans have and been taught other nerds don't. I mean lot of used (US) manga looks rough as hell vs I can get decent looking comic from the fucking 70's. Video games (US) have that problem too of things just being treated like shit but fuck card game people the most because they smell like pure ass, comic/video game store without people playing smells fine but once they show up fuck that shit.
>>
>>291336300
Western comics fandom always been split up into two camps, the reader vs investor (some minor crossover) but they're basically two completely different worlds and you can see it on Youtube if you look up comics. I fell like manga starting to split into that camp too but it's even worst maybe because you got the third camp of the larper who pretends they read that shit, at least the investor for comics doesn't pretend he read shit.

Dubs is still how most people watch anime.

Just read Japanese
>>
>>291337570
Sure just let me import a book for 1000 plus dollars or pay 1000s of dollars to move to Japan and also live in a country full of people who don't like me and working at some shitass job.
>>
>>291335809
There isn't even a right to left translated printed version of BOTI and the official release is better than most left to right translations since Samura was involved with it and even reorganised panels/redrew some stuff specifically for it.

Still not desirable but it's genuinely not awful.

Literally cheaper than the shit US editions
>>
>>291337604
those prices are in yen you idiot
>>
>>291337168
Flipping collectibles is almost always a retarded waste of time. You could use that money more productively and with dramatically less effort.
>>
>>291337604
Buying Japanese printed media is very cheap.
What you actually get raped by is shipping costs. I miss when Amazon Japan offered flat rate shipping.
>>
>>291337644
wtf, why is there someone with good taste on /a/?
>>
>>291337206
With manga the main splits I see are buyers vs pirates and translation vs original. To a lesser degree physical vs digital.
Collectors that buy a volume a dozen times to get all the different store bonuses for a series they don't read doesn't seem like a relevant number. There's simply way too many manga getting published for that. Old manga collecting is also very limited.
>>
>>291337168
>I mean lot of used (US) manga looks rough as hell
Nips take better care of theirs.
>>
>>291337760
It's cultural thing but also era thing in the US, older from Atari, NES, etc eras in the US are better kept than like PS1 onward likely because kids give less of a shit or weren't raised to take their shit and the type of people buying games, blacks and Mexicans started to be marketed at more. It's why Xbox 360 stuff looks like dogshit but Atari 2600 looks fine.
>>
>>291337867
I forgot to say same goes to old manga, with it mostly being 2000's kids reading the shit and they didn't care.
>>
All this talk about how manga handle and also western comics, well will reprint random bullshit all the time like I saw DC was reprinting old romance comics no one cares about, why is it manga only seems to reprint shit only if it's majorly popularly? (Japan or US).
