If they are well written enough they can be elevated to braincrack status, when the audience can become extremely immersed and brainstorm a way through the puzzles along with the protagonist. See: Liar Game, Kaiji, Death Note.

If your battle of wits relies on luck, deus ex machinas or everyone around the protagonist just acting stupid and falling for all of his tricks, it's a stupid story. See: Kakegurui, Code Geass.

It's that simple.

Code Geass is really bad at writing it's smart characters
I enjoyed the show but you can tell everyone involved in writing it had an infantile understanding of politics, conflict and geniuses

I quit at the second time the protag said "you can't touch me because I have bombs strapped on myself!" for the second time in like 3 episodes. Get some new tricks.

That's kinda a gay attitude though, specially commenting on it if you haven't seen the rest
My main issue is how they write the characters to be nigh wizards, they just know shit because of things that happened off-screen with no justification
This and the lack of proper time to set off the tone and the depth to the story
But the actual story being told isn't bad, it just feels like I'm watching a recap instead of the actual anime

Nah I actually did watch the entire thing. It's just garbage as a battle of wits. I expect the protagonist to find a brilliant way to escape his predicaments, but instead he just deus ex machinas his way through everything with stuff that would never in a million years actually work. And then he does things like pre-recording the message by predicting everything the other guy would say, which is just ridiculous.

Code Geass would be very cool if it didn't purport to be a battle of wits show. The worst part is people comparing it to something like Death Note, which although juvenile, puts a honest effort in making a fair battle of wits.

I don't disagree, Death Note part 1 was baller, although it noticeably declined after the halfway point, and every 'stupid decision' taken by Kira is part of his character
As for CG, it sits in this bizarre limbo where it works great as a battle shounen (and you'll have a 10000x better experience thinking of it as one), but presents itself as a high IQ very serious seinen political drama. But then if you poke at it a little bit with some critical thinking it starts to fall apart, not just on the mind game aspect, but also on the actual story being told. The politics are dogshit, the world is wide as a river and deep as a puddle.

You're actually making the show seem better than it is and exposing yourself
>>
Braincrack will never be a meme you autistic faggot
>>

People who don't expose themselves are cowards
I just like CG more than you

You're making big claims for someone who isn't abusing alcohol, prescription drugs and isn't a writer.

>You're making big claims for someone who isn't an unhealthy bitch
I suppose so lmao though I am (or was) a writer

>See: Liar Game
That's only true like half the time if that.
