One of the most surprising things I've seen as I've been rewatching Evangelion is that the show actively encourages you to ship Shinji and Misato. This pairing never came out of nowhere at all, the chemistry between them within the show itself is decidely not merely mother-and-son.Episode 4, for example, almost plays out like the plot of a difficult romance, with Shinji and Misato as the main couple. Misato wants Shinji to care about her, rather than just blankly agree with everything she says. Then he runs away, and she's heartbroken by his disappearance, but also feels for him and all the pain he's endured piloting Eva.Later on, Misato thinks about the Hedgehog's Dilemma, and then from there she has the epiphany that Shinji is running away precisely because he DOES care about her, and his way of showing affection is to distance himself from other people so he doesn't hurt them. This leads to her frantically trying to catch him at the train station, being crushed when she thinks he's left, and then the connection between them when it's revealed he's stayed. It's a fucking romance plot. None of the Shinji/Misato shippers are hallucinating at all. Shinji even overtly denies a mother-and-son relationship between them himself, when he goes out of his way to point out they're not related.
yeah no shit. She's one of the nude women in Shinji's dream alongside Rei and Asuka.
Also, Episode 4 is legitimately beautiful. These painted backgrounds as Shinji is running away are sublime.
This is like that fucking Van Gogh painting. I wonder if the guys at Gainax actually studied impressionistic art in their work on this show.
This anime is a masterpiece. Even this early into the rewatch I can tell it's special. It's genuinely a work of art.
>>291355220Cute
>>291355220i can understand shinji not seeing her as a mother figure but what would misato see in shinji other than a son figure?its not like she has a lack of romantic options with kaji and that other guy at nerv that likes her
>>291355939I mean, love's funny. Romantic chemistry is funny. It comes out of nowhere when you least expect it.Certainly this shot at the end felt like some serious yearning. And she was really crushed when she thought he was gone.
>>291355939She's a sexual pervert who cannot understand connection without sex.
>>291355872like fuck you nge. that's just a painting you stuck shinji in.
>>291355939>but what would misato see in shinji other than a son figure? She straight up said "I thought you'd be cuter in person". She was looking at that picture of a 13 year old and licking her lips. She was in denial about it, but she wanted to ride his dick since day 1. She kept herself content with a bit of teasing, and they seettled into a relationship almost like a married couple.
>>291355939She wouldn't have a son that old even if she for pregnant since puberty.
>>291355872Fine, i'll rewatch Evangelion
>>291356109? Misato is 28. She definitely could have had a son at 14.
>>291355964>>291355979>>291356080shinji canonically has a micropenis and is a cripplingly depressed loseri literally do not see any way misato would have liked him in a way other than a mother, especially with kaji in the picture
Yup, the original NGE was the anime equivalent of Springsteen's part in We Are the World:Passionate and even full of emotion, but only because the person behind it was deadbeat af for intense prior reasons :/..
>>291355885This guy is watching it for the first time
>>291355939Anon you're in denial.
>>291356424OP here, I'm actually watching it for the second time. But I first watched it when I was 18, and I'm 39 now. So it's been more than 20 years. From a certain point of view, maybe I am seeing it for the first time. Maybe now, as an adult, I truly see it for what it is.
>>291355220No shit.
>>291355220anno and staff were cowards to not go all the way with it.
>>291356264>shinji canonically has a micropenis and is a cripplingly depressed loserShinji starts the series at 13, and he's only going thorugh puberty which is why he's so horny. He hasn't hit his growth spurt either. His dick is thus normal for his age. In any case, Misato liked what she saw.
>>291356804NGE 2 PS2.
>>291355220You could argue that Asuka was created as a potential love interest in the planning stages just to break up this inevitable and obvious pairing.
>>291356804I still think Misato's kid in the Rebuild's should have been Shinji's.
>>291355885>>291355860that's Shinji and Asuka's hill you retard, not misato's
Do you think Misato was doing it consciously when she explained hating her father and then basically described Shinji to him, including repeating some stuff she'd said to his face before?
>>291357377misato wants to become one with shinji since very early on>>291357185it's shinji's kid
>>291357443Anno doesn't have the stones anymore
>>291356874Asuka is actually irrelevant.
>>291355220Misato is a literal case of arrested development. Despite leaning into her status and sexuality as an adult, she uses it more as a tool to keep people connected to her; the moment she has to deal with actual adult issues she folds like a goddamn lawn chair. It's why Misato's a tragic figure, despite getting older she never grew past being the girl in the capsule but has every bit of responsibility shoved upon her.
