Naruto reminds me a lot of RWBY in that the idea of the series is better than the reality of it. You've got cool-looking characters who look nice on a t shirt or a phone screensaver. But the series itself just isn't cool at all, it's often plodding and dragged out and drops interesting ideas before it develops them or leaves things unanswered for so long that no answer is satisfactory. It feels like a series that's constantly trying to figure what it wants to be, so it doesn't really have much of an identity and lacks the substance to really engage with it beyond a surface level.
