Now that summer's over and we've completed our rewatch, let's talk about the CITY series as a whole and do a final review.

Episode 1, not a great start, honestly, but there were moments of brilliance there as they found their footing. The noodles in the bag gag was outstanding. We got introduced to some running themes like Nagumo trying to extract as much money out of everyone she can. We opened with a bird that supposedly has nothing to do with the story, but then Nagumo is called a bird (and she's blue), and blue birds keep showing up throughout as if they're coming down from the heavens to bless our CITY. The Good Person is shown to be very nice. We see Mr. Makabe's pranking and perhaps hinting at his restaurant troubles a bit since the place is so empty. Wako does her autism thing. We're even introduced to Nagumo getting her ear tickled by whispers. The main two concepts we get from it are, first: Nagumo not really having a plan for her life, not knowing what she wants to do, and needing to try and find the most fun thing to do; and second: Ecchan doesn't want a special ability, she just wants to be with Matsuri. We don't find out what that really means until later, but as our main story through-line, it starts quite early without us realizing it.
Episode 2, we get the trio together, and so their stories can properly begin. This is the episode where Nagumo is called a beautiful bird, too. But I'd say we're still largely just introducing the characters and what's going on with all of them. Ecchan tries to find out if there's anything Matsuri wishes for, she's trying to figure out if she can give her a gift or some lasting memory before she leaves, and does this in a roundabout way through the "playing god" game. We're introduced to our perennial nemesis the gopher, Nagumo's failures as a horse racing gambler, and we find out Niikura has a lot of demons. We even get a Mio cameo from Nichijou. But I'd say the main thing from this episode is the backstory of how Niikura found her thing, photographing Nagumo back in school, and that's why she really wants to pay Nagumo back by helping her find her thing, too.
Episode 3, we introduce Riko and the crush Tatewaku develops on her, and I'd say this is the episode where CITY actually starts getting good. I love basically all the Riko stuff, the classroom scene after the credits was great, and the takoyaki flashback was one of the best jokes of the whole series. The Tekaridake Troupe is introduced, and their desperate need to eat. That even comes back in the final episode. But overall like the mangaka and editor storyline, it serves a purpose but just isn't that funny most of the time. Wako going into the drink is an unforgettable moment, however, as is the demon skull treasure Nagumo and Niikura find. We're again reminded of how pure Nagumo is, and how tightly-wound Niikura is. Interesting how we get Chausu bakery so early, and how the yakisoba sandwich is already being worked on. That scene has got to take place later in the series. The most important segment is Ecchan and Matsuri attempting to create world peace, or at least maintain the peace in their well. That comes back around in the final episode with both of them needing to expand their wells, apart.
>>291409291Isn't it a shark?
Episode 4 is the first truly great episode. There's so much going on here. Ms. Tanabe's awards are introduced. The continual frustrations of both Makabe father and son as a parallel for Mr. Bummer. We get a Wako prank. The pendant with the picture is revealed as a central focus for Niikura going forward. Ecchan almost tells Matsuri that she's moving. And ultimately Nagumo gets kidnapped by Hotaka leading into a cliffhanger.I wonder if Nagumo's "purity" is why she's able to see the tsuchinoko and the mimineko lets her grab his ears. In the next episode Tatewaku, also a pure soul in a lot of ways, is able to see and even capture the tsuchinoko. Meanwhile, the mimineko senses only danger from Niikura. Of course Niikura was acting like a predator trying to get her pendant back, but I wonder if the tsuchinoko would even be something Niikura could interact with. I may be reading too much into that.
>>291410610It's unclear.
>>291409826
Episode 5 is really about two stories: frustration and generosity. Niikura and Nagumo are both constantly frustrated by the events of the episode. But ultimately the pure soul Nagumo and the Good Person get their hospitality anyway, as does Niikura even though she wasn't invited (not pure enough). Everyone else is mostly just along for the fun ride. By the end of it all, Niikura still has the missing pendant hanging over her head, and her demons continue to haunt her. But it's when she's reunited with Nagumo and Wako that she's able to calm down, and just enjoy herself.
>>291411380Maybe that's the moral of the story, too. In the special ED for episode 5, there's some tragic stuff that happens, but laughing it off is the resolution. When you're part of a CITY, and maintain those human connections, you keep the demons at bay.
Episode 6 is a bit of an aftermath episode, or so it seems at first. We finally meet the Adatara family properly. We've previously seen Ryouta in class with Tatewaku and Riko, and we've see Dr. Adatara spying on the Makabe restaurant, but that's about it. That's may be one of my biggest criticisms of CITY. We should've had the Adataras get more focus. But mostly this episode is about Niikura reeling from her lost pendant. There's some more stuff with Wako submitting a manga to the CITY Magazine, and some more stuff with Riko. in class.Oh yeah, and then the pumpkin scene. Just put a dagger in our hearts and make Ecchan and Matsuri sob at the end. Brutal! But man does it make an impact when it's done like this. We move from dread to grief, at just under the halfway point of the series.
Epiosode 7 brings us back to a lighter tone, which we probably needed after a devastating episode 6, although we do start with Ecchan and Matsuri freaking out and trying to figure out how best to spend the rest of their summer together. We quickly move on to more fun and amusement with Mr. Makabe going on an epic adventure to prepare a meal, and then needing to be cheered up because his restaurant isn't getting much business. I would watch an anime if it was just centered on that guy. We then have a fun evening with the trio getting mad at each other before launching into everybody's favorite ramen scene with Niikura having a late night binge. I rather enjoyed the barber and some more insights into life in the CITY, and how the pawn shop first seen in episode 5 fits in with everything. And then we finish up with the quiz and Nagumo trying to make some money somehow only to be frustrated by pill bugs.Overall, a great episode with lots of laughs, but our main stories are mostly on hold.
Episode 8 is all about love. Tanabe's in love, Honkan's in love, Tatewaku's in love, and even Ecchan's in love. And for this episode at least, it seems like Tatewaku finally got the girl, taking Riko out on a date to see Tekaridake Troupe (featuring Nagumo) put on their latest play at Mont Blanc University. We got to see the fancy fashion boutique and CITY's most fashionable CITYzens. And we got a hint at a CITY race that's coming up soon...This is definitely Tatewaku's episode, and while I wasn't sure about the character early on, I did come to really like him. I was thrilled to see him finally ask Riko out. She bruises his heart later, but he remains undeterred, which is very Makabe/Mr. Bummer. I wonder how many times Tsurubishi had to ask out Yuuko before she finally relented and agreed to marry him. The other plots are largely on hold to give love a chance. Perhaps the moral of the story is to prioritize it, and take that chance. Ms. Tanabe waited a very long time before taking hers and she still hasn't really taken it. Honkan isn't making progress with Wako at all outside of occasional hand-touching. Ecchan didn't even tell Matsuri that she was in love with Matsuri's brother. But the optimist, the persevering Tatewaku goes for it.
Episode 9 is the CITY race, and I kinda wish it had been a two-parter. It was good, but it wasn't as good as I feel it could've been. It suffered from not showing us as much about what was happening in the other pairings. We could've gotten so much more of Matsuri and Ecchan being cute as they contended with each obstacle together. We could've seen more of the Three Crows and Dr. Adatara being drunk idiots. And dare I say it? I actually would've enjoyed getting more from the mangaka and editor. Instead of sitting and heavy breathing at each other, show them working together to overcome obstacles and encouraging each other as a team, the way a mangaka and editor are supposed to be a team (at least according to CITY). And we could've seen more stuff from the spectators, too. Random other characters we know and love watching and cheering them on, and trying to bet on who will win. The race starts and then gets resolved much too quickly. That's a shame because the set-up for this was so much fun. It's probably the episode that disappointed me the most, even though I enjoyed it and thought it was good. It could've been great. That said, the animation was stellar, some iconic moments and visuals, my criticisms are pretty much exclusive to pacing and what they left out. Man I wish this had been a two cour series and we didn't get Sparks of Tomorrow at all. Wako is yet again a freakishly competent prankster. Ms. Tanabe finally asks out Tatsuta. The two core stories do get the focus again after maybe a bit of a break in previous episodes, even if not much happens with either except in the after-credits scene. Niikura gets slightly more assertive and confronts Nagumo a bit about her laziness and lack of motivation, and Ecchan and Matsuri win the prize and will be able to spend it on visiting each other after Ecchan moves away. We also get a great look into Ecchan being a weird new kid at school and how Matsuri became her friend.
>>291411042Why did she do it
Episode 10 seems to mark the beginning of a new and and final phase to our CITY story. We're getting more with the Three Crows now, we begin the online videos arc with Niikura and Nagumo, and Tatewaku gets rejected by Riko. The main stories haven't reached their endpoints yet, but the series feels comfortable with the progress so far and we're now just living in the CITY. It's a very slice of life episode. And I like it. But it could've been CITY race part 2. The island adventure was crazy, and I think that was probably the best way to adapt it. I think doing all that as a whole episode, or several episodes, in a longer series would've been fun but very much taking us out of the interconnectedness of the CITY as it's presented everywhere else.In general, I find Niikura wanting to be some kind of famous online personality very in line with her character, but it just grosses me out a bit. The fact that she's so bad at it at least is funny and redeems the storyline in my eyes. After the race, Ecchan and Matsuri seem to have fallen into a comfortable, more ordinary friendship, which we see a little bit of. The tension is gone. But the summer and CITY is coming to an end soon and it's starting to feel like it. Perhaps that's why the old guys are so focused on reminiscing and wanting to recreate simpler, better, happier times.
>>291413490Probably some deep-seated psychological trauma involving broccoli as a young child. Maybe she falls into this fantasy of broccoli being trees as an escape from the frustrations of her real life.
Episode 11 mostly continues with Niikura's schemes to get internet famous and make money from it. We get another reminder of her utter depravity compared to Nagumo's purity, with Nagumo shocked and ultimately fleeing from Niikura as she tries to explain herself. Like in episode 1, they eventually seem to get on the same page again by the end, off-screen. We also pretty much wrap up the mangaka and editor storyline, since Mio sent in an entirely too lewd manga to publish in a respectable CITY magazine, and Wako helped the two of them communicate. Other than that, it's just another SoL episode with the Suprising Cup of Shogi on local CITY TV and a nice little segment with the barber again bringing items to the pawn shop. Apparently the Good Person makes cursed pottery. All his evil goes into the clay, leaving him entirely too nice. This episode's pretty funny, but not a story-heavy episode. Niikura is cute.
Episode 12 is my favorite episode, and we are rapidly wrapping up remaining stories. Three fun slice of life segments with Nagumo in all of them. The horse race, joining the Three Crows for a drink, and finally, the shooting stars at the end of the episode and making wishes. These are perhaps Nagumo's past (gambling), present (making friends and having fun at the restaurant), and future (her ambitions). For main story, we have Niikura more directly confronting Nagumo about finding something fun to do. The photo contest results are out and Nagumo actually won. Perhaps she'll be motivated to keep doing photography, or perhaps she'll find something else fun. But she's making progress even if she isn't thinking about it too much.Niikura gets her pendant back and seems to find peace out of all her frustrating experiences and struggles. It's the dawn of a glorious new day in the CITY. Perhaps she's defeated her demons. Either way, this is life. And as Ryouta once said at a quiz: life is pain. Niikura may have finally accepted that.Ecchan also says goodbye to Matsuri, or at least she tries to in the way she thinks is best. All the spots she went to visit were places she was with Matsuri. And she tries to give Matsuri one last game to play to lessen the hurt to being apart.
Episode 13 >>291255703 is of course our finale and it appropriately focuses a lot on Matsuri as she realizes with growing panic that Ecchan has already left, leading to a confrontation and another goodbye at the airport, assisted by Wako, Riko, and Ryouta of all people. Again, perhaps it would've been better if the Adatara family got more focus earlier in the series, but they did the best they could in 13 episodes. Ultimately the two girls will need to expand their wells, and find connections and understanding with more people. We also start the episode with Nagumo coming to the realization that she's having fun every day. That's about as much growth as we get from Nagumo, but she's on a good trajectory and I think Niikura is satisfied with that at least. And maybe after episode 12, Niikura is willing to not be quite so in control of everything anymore. And then the musical. The Makabe restaurant has been perhaps THE center of the CITY and all its interwoven stories, and they do deserve a star. Maybe not a Michelin star, but a star by CITY standards. And it all culminates in each character wanting to do it all over again, start fresh in the past and maybe make some better choices or just enjoy the good times again. Of course, that proves impossible. Inevitably, we must live in the moment and enjoy our connections within the CITY we have right now. If you try to go back, some idiot will just spill tea on the time machine and kill you all.But we can still pretend like it's that summer. Even though it's already fall.
Did that anon who was watching the series for the first time finish this week?
Wako > Niikura > NagumoRiko > Matsuri > EcchanTanabe > Arama-san > Adatara MomSora > Umi > ShiaBraids > Bunny Servants > Abacus/fa/-chan > Finger-chan > Phillips-chan
>>291408886>>291415613I'm the anon who was going to watch the series this week. Still missing the last two episodes but holy shit. This anime is insanely fun.>>291411380This episode with like 9 things happening at the same time just blew my mind. It was like 24h but on steroids.>>291414039I lost it at Mambo no. 5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZ8Hd3nF4B4And why the hell Nagumo dresses like my boy Kensou from KOF?
>>291418159Hey, good to see you. The last two are among the best the show has to offer.
is this like Nichijou where it's extremely pun based humor? I dropped it because of that.
>>291418297Way fewer puns in CITY. In fact, I'd be hard pressed to think of any, outside of one that was about a famous American's name. It's also more iyashikei than strictly comedy, without actually being iyashikei.
>>291410177>We even get a Mio cameo from Nichijou.>We also pretty much wrap up the mangaka and editor storyline, since Mio sent in an entirely too lewd manga to publish in a respectable CITY magazineWait, really? That was the plot that? I thought Wako was the one sending the other lewd manga like she sent that oneshot before.
>>291419332No, it's "Daisuke" Naganohara, which is Mio's pen name going back to Nichijou. She had a hurt arm in episode 2, so her manga series could be submitted yet, which is what saved Mr. Bummer from initial cancellation. Wako only made the one manga, later on.
>>291419461That's what I get from watching from episode 3 onwards the whole week but the first two I watched last year or so. I might even assumed that Wako was there with Niikura and Nagumo the whole time.
>>291419499There are a lot of characters and moving parts in this CITY. It's understandable.
>>291418159>this anime is insanely funYes. Yes, it is.
Favorite subtle moments that are often overlooked? For me, it's when the ojisan who "died" who mr.makabe was always pranking said the name>JOHN LENONIn a really intense way
>>291419866Ah, the buttloaf.
>>291419866That entire thing with Dr. Adatara was so funny and also very touching.
I genuinely envy Shitty fans because the anime could've easily been one of the more interesting anime in the recent years but its refusal to land even a single funny joke makes it unwatchable
>>291420498SLOB
>>291420498>>291419866Just how come not a single guy was into Nagumo? Or what was her problem on making friends besides Niikura, Wako and the people at the restaurant? Is it because she dresses like a kung fu boy >>291418159 ?
>>291418159 here>>291412982>and even Ecchan's in loveThe childhood friend betrayal was brutal to my girl. But why didn't she go say her goodbyes to Tatewaku? They did show how she was close to him as well and the family since she went her way to say her goodbyes to the barbershop dude.

>>291419866
>>291421570They all get emasculated by her
>>291421570Tekaridake is in love with her, we just didn't get that in the anime.

>>291421780>>291421802>The guy who gets beat up by his pets is into NagumoWell, it makes sense at least. I wish we could have another season.
>>291418254Well, just finished those two. I'm not sure about "the best ones" but they were pretty good. 12 was hard carried by Ecchan's goodbye but I think Niikura's pendant plot got a bit of a lackluster end >>291414646 it was wacky with whatever that thing was that but I thought we would get Nagumo seeing what's inside the pendant and probably not get why someone would take a photo of her back. But 13 >>291415080 was amazing from start to finish. The goodbye, Wako proving to be the most dangerous person in the entire city, the whole musical with almost everybody or at least everybody related to Nagumo, Niikura and Wako. Pretty fun way to end the series. Not saying I regret watching it before but I certainly don't regret watching it this week.I might disagree with you that Episode 5 was the true outlier and the reason I'll recommend this anime to my friends. All the situations happening at the same time and with a great payoff makes it pretty much perfect in every way.Too bad I don't have any webm with me here. Not even sure if I have a favorite character but the 3 main girls are great on their own. But I'm partial to KOF so I'll take the one who dresses like a psycho soldier boy. When's Niikura cosplaying Athena?
wada melon
>>291421648It's okay, they're in a band together.
>>291419866>Favorite subtle moments that are often overlooked? The idol/actress girl being friends with Wako back in school. Also, I feel like she's supposed to be a lot more in the story than what she appeared during the anime.
>>291421747Anon that's not exactly overlooked, it's one of the funniest chapters
>>291423046Yeah unfortunately lots of characters had severely decreased screentime due to only making 13 episodes FOR SOME FUCKING REASON
>>291422807Cheseboige
>>291423046Shia and Wako are still friends to this day. We just never saw it in the anime.
>>291421802And Niikura has a crush on Tekaridake, despite everyone in the CITY thinking Niikura and Nagumo are a couple.
>>291423316You'll notice that when I painted that I tried to break up symmetry and flatten the shadows of the face by putting the lighter tan in the recesses that will be get less light like around the eyes and neck, while darkening the parts of the face that catch more light like the chin, cheeks, forehead, and top of the ear lobe. It's very important to do both things if you're going to be camouflaged. Human faces are one of the most readily recognizable things to the human eye. If you're going to be deceptive, you must create a pattern that is different from the recognizable face. It may look haphazardly done with a mouse, but real care and attention went into that, it's not a random pattern. Now if Wako really wanted to hide, she would also break up her silhouette, which is naturally also symmetrical and very recognizably human in shape. Wearing some kind of veil that fills in the gap between head and shoulder on only one side, break up the roundness of her head, and other tricks like that would do a great deal to change the visual signature of her body into something inhuman that the eye will quickly dismiss as not a threat. But Wako would still be very much a threat.
Wako ought to know all about camouflage, since she read a camouflaged book.
And yes I still have this version some anon made with it. I don't know if you're still out there anon, but your error will never be forgotten. There is no escaping it. It will haunt you until your last day on this PLANET. Wa-ha-ha!
Wasn't funny
>>291423046She's in it a lot.
>>291423253Even Wako, at first.
>>291419866Nagumo having very sensitive ears.
>>291423046
>>291421056
>>291408886My thoughts summed up:
>>291424530Wako was so fucking BASED manAnd I really do mean that word exactlyShe's literally just having a good time 100% of the time. She took the fun things are fun proverb to the ultimate heightsWhile there is pleanty of room to have favorites in CITY, and so many of them have such vibrant and fun and lovable personalities, I think that- in no uncertain terms- Wako is the BEST character in the show
>>291423157Pretty sad. I thought we would get something like that when she appeared near the restaurant with Wako there.
>>291424083>>291424226I got confused when she appeared in episode 5 along with the Adataras. I thought she was part of them and the girls were triplets. But then the next episode we got the older sister but not Shia and we barely had her afterwards. Then, I went back to episode 1 and saw >>291423046 so I thought she was the actual older sister. Just not living with them being and idol or something. So just from watching the anime, I don't really know who she is but it looks like she's important. Not from being famous but by being related to the Adataras and Wako.
>>291428670Understandable since she looks so much like both sisters and kid celebrities do exist.
>>291423316>>291423516>>291423663Great inconspicuous Wakos.
We should go through the manga sometime.
>>291428670That thing she wears in her hair is Mr. Explosion, Shia's signature brand. If you look for them, they're all over the place. It's on Niikura's shirt. Riko has one on her bag. A bunch of other examples I can't think of right now.
>>291419866Tatewaku getting a fake punch and reacting to it dramatically but as quietly as possible because they all thought their teacher couldn't hear them.
>>291431101Oh, I thought it would another special being like mimineko and whatever is this >>291409291 >A bunch of other examples I can't think of right now.On the ED as well.>>291431581Everything in that scene was great. The teacher at the end got me pretty good.
>>291431101It feels like there's a lot more lore in the CITY than we got to know in these 13 episodes. What about Wako and that mouse thing? And isn't Wako already living in another apartment in that complex? Did she just left her home to sleep with Nagumo and Niikura?
>>291432968Wako and Nagumo both live in separate apartments in the same building, but they spend a lot of time hanging out and sleeping over at Niikura's.
Very sexy girls.
>>291433071Why dont they just move in together and split the rent? They already basically live together. Plus KNNNNIIIIIIIIIIIIlura can have further unrestricted access to Nagumo's pussy
My favourite were these goobers.
>>291434083That might happen in the manga, I forget. But that definitely didn't happen in the anime, unless we adhere to the theory that some scenes just happen out of order across the series (which I kind of do, mostly because of Chausu Bakery working on Ms. Tanabe's yakisoba-pan before she asks Adatara Dad what his favorite food is by mistake). It's a bit unclear. Should've been two cour.
>>291419866Speaking of Wako seemingly moving in, Wako owns TWO different swords (she has a katana as part of her penguin ninja costume). And I choose to believe they are both real steel and battle-ready.
>>291434083>>291433071Well, it's not like Nagumo is paying any rent anyway. But maybe there are rules against 3 people occupying a 1-room apartment.>GrandmaWait, the landlord is a Makabe? Wako, Niikura and Nagumo are college students? And the other friend of Wako appears in the manga? Since many minor characters that didn't appear in the anime aren't there like Soroban and Mitsuami.
>>291419866Mr. Makabe's pranks are very funny, but the credulity of Tatewaku combined with the fact that boys generally grow up to look pretty similar to their fathers when they get older is quite good when Tatewaku is confronted by his father about his grades.
>>291435561The landlady is Tatewaku and Matsuri's grandmother, but on their mother's side. She's an Aioi... or so the popular theory goes. That's Yuuko's mom from Nichijou. Probably.
>>291435642Tatewaku gotta work on his 'stache game. That's how his papa snagged yuuko and how he will snag riko
>>291435801
>>291435892I can see it
>>291435921It's never been officially confirmed, but there's strong evidence that Mrs. Makabe is indeed Yuuko. She's just never been named.
I hope Nano is doing well.
>>291435958Oh so she doesn't appear in the manga? I thought you were all sure about that. >>291435082Wait, Wako just moved her stuff to Niikura's home? I get Nagumo just letting her clothes there since she's a slob but Wako was well?
>>291436706She's married to me, so she's doing very well
>>291436709Mrs. Makabe does appear in the manga, but she's not officially named. She looks and acts just like her.
City, not that good.
>>291437325It's not that good, true... it's GREAT!
Thanks for these rewatch threads. They were a nice change of pace from the ones made by the schizo. CITY is a show I want to protect forever. It feels corny to say, but I think a little differently about the world and people in it after it ended.
>>291437552Glad you enjoyed them. This show was quite special for me too.
>>291437289Well, maybe I should read the manga then.>>291437552>>291437769Same here. It was a great reminder that I only watched two episodes last year and for some reason I just didn't keep watching. I had a great week finishing the series. Wonder how it would be if I was here last year with weekly threads.
>>291423046>>291423144>>291423157>>291428670>>291432968If you think you understand CITY and you only watched the anime, no you don't. You missed the entire meat of the story if you haven't read the manga.
>>291438262>>291438692I'd be interested in threads specifically on the manga, if anyone wants to do those.
>>291413308>Ms. Tanabe finally asks out Tatsuta.So... when did the date happen? Was it in the background of some episode? Because that felt like a pretty huge thing for her character and after that episode she kinda disappeared.
>>29143933113 episodes small studio please understand
>>291413308I also think the show would’ve been better as a 2-cour. Wouldn’t have to make all these weird adaptation changes. Nichijou did it fine. Having said that, and as infuriating as it was to watch all the changes/omissions as they were happening, I genuinely believe the compact feel of the show and its ending are better than the manga. The election arc is great, but it gives you the sort of “every character’s happy ending” sendoff you’d expect. The show goes for something much more interesting.>that spoilerhow embarrassing, sasuga Kyoani
>>291439587>>291439665Well it had quite high budget so maybe they didn't expect it to make money enough to secure a two cour and they already had other projects on the pipeline (like Ruridragon next year). But yeah, it has been a while since I watched something from them and I rather had more of City as well even if took a year or so for a second season.
>>291440164At this point I'd just be happy with a tatewaku's oddesy movie
I'd be glad for just one full length OVA.
We didn't get as much Wako stimming as I expected after her introduction.
>>291441366Well, Wako didn't get much time alone. But I loved her interactions with the Mangaka and the Editor.
>>291442183True, she had very few solo scenes. There was that one, and the water spider technique, and that was about it.
Wako needs a weak point. Go through her photo stash, peek under her book cover, find her stack of notebooks all with her donut steels.
>>291442495She might just laugh it off like she does with everything. She's too powerful. But now I want to see her interacting with her old friends >>291433071>>291422807>>291423153And Matsuri visiting Ecchan with everyone speaking Engrish there.
>>291442824Matsuri going to England would be pretty neat for an OVA. But then we wouldn't get any other characters back in the CITY.Also, who wants to go to England right now? Not so comfy.
>>291442901You could just do it for a segment and then have the CITY transition in a creative way like a globe turning around to go back to Wako and Makabe setting up a new prank. Or just have Tanabe asking Hodaka to give Ecchan a prize and he would try to get her back to the City somehow.
>>291410494Completely missed that the troupe was starving in this ep and it was brought back full circle at the end lol>>291410177>>291409826I think one of the great things about Ecchan and Matsuri's story is how it's set up immediately when we meet them. We're introduced to these two absolute cute dorks and their shenanigans only to immediately find out after their introduction that Eccchan is in her way out already. That makes it so that all of their interactions going forward have this looming sense of melancholy that for some of the time only we are aware of. It makes the emotional moments, like the pumpkin head and the goodbye at the airport hit so much harder because they were earned from the very beginning.
>>291410610SAAAAMMMEEEEEE!!!
>>291444222They like to stack.
>>291412339I remember during the threads one anon called Mr. Makabe the randy marsh of CITY and that really stuck with me. Feels quite right even though they're pretty different characters.
>>291413308>>291439665>sparks of shitmorrow I'm gonna vent a little since YOU brought it upI went through that entire show saying that the worst thing about it was that it needed to pick a lane and either choose to be full on SoL electric invention of the week following the 5 teens OR a focused drama centered around the main 3 characters. After finishing it, I can safely say FUCK the drama FUCK faggot ass homo yosuke. The show should have been 1000% just meiji slice of life kino following kihachi and inako holy fuck inago is so cute man she deserved so much better bros. Kyoani girls are a cut above the rest Inago is so so pretty but her show was literally ONLY missed potential. It didn't properly reach a single high that it was capable of. Even the best episode, this keion reference, suffered from not having enough SoL baking time with the freind group. What a fucking miss bros
>>291414039Love the shitty greenscreen on this scene
>>291422783Gald you enjoyed it anonYeah ecchan's goodbye in ep12 is one of my favorite scenes. It's very powerful. One last goodbye to everything that means something to her, except for not being able to handle the single goodbye to the one person that means most ;_;
>>291444403Yeah, I had to drop it. Inako was very cute, and the other two girls were fun too, but I could tell it was going to just get worse and worse. Pretty much as soon as they did the second round of chase-the-catalog, I was fed up and over it.
>>291422783Also Wako gasbombing the airport then putting on a mask and laughing is fucking hilarious
>>291423663>>291423516>>291423316Need ghilliesuit wako
>>291444506Any time Wako was laughing, I was having warm feelings.
>>291424226HuhMakes sense that some of Wako's prize winning photos are of Shia!>>291424113Nothing but lewd and fun thoughts in that head
>>291444523I forgot all about this, but when I opened my file I had some hidden layers from my attempt at doing that veil I mentioned and it really didn't look good, and I fucked up some stuff so I just gave up and only exported and uploaded the camouflage paint. A better artist than me will need to do better.
>>291430642>>291438692>>291438773DAILY CITY FUCKING WHEEEEENNNNNNNNN
>>291444562I'd be very happy to see something like that, but I do not have the files to post and I'm too lazy to figure out how to go get them.
>>291434186Id watch an entire anime on themsilly drunks do silly drunk things
>>291435561Yes, the three of them are college students. Wako has two other friends, one of whom isnt named in the show, probably is in the manga, and the other is Shia. Shia didn't have alot of screentime in the anime. Many characters were severely cut down to fit the size. As much as I love kyoani, I do think they make some bad decisions here and there. This needed to be a full adaption instead of abridged. It's a little lucky that there IS room for a second season to add more depth here, due to the structure of the show and how it was told, maybe in a NNB s2 type way, but I'm not too hopeful that that will happen
>>291436709No one can stop Wako from doing whatever she pleases. If Wako wants to move into Niikura's closet, she will move into Niikura's closet. Kneekuras objections be damned.
>>291444722Also worth noting that Niikura is a year younger than the other two, and Nagumo didn't know Niikura before college, and she moved away shortly after Niikura learned of Nagumo's existence. We don't really know how they ended up meeting and becoming friends now as college students.
>>291444498You didn't miss much in the second half and the last two episodes were egregious with their horrible horrible pacing. They basically took one invention that should have taken an entire cour to build, literally a year's worth of time, in-show, and made it in one episode. It might have been one of the most rushed arcs I've ever seen in my life. Then the final episode went batshit looneytoons physics and logic to cap it off. I will say that I enjoyed most of the episodes individually, when isolated, but the story as a whole failed to come together into something good and the structure was poorly thought out
>>291444806Yeah, it's a real shame. It's the anime I was most looking forward to when we finally found out when it was coming out, and then it didn't even end up being something I watched more than a few episodes of. But hey, Grow Up Show at least came along and was a very welcome surprise. A couple other good shows too I only found out about a few weeks before the season began. But man, Ruri Dragon better be amazing.
>>291444873>sunflowers mentionedFrom what I understand about ruri dragon, it's much more in their normal wheelhouse so I do still expect it to be good. Sparks of Tomorrow had the most tumultuous production out of any of their shows due to a very obvious and tragic reason. So I understand why it came out the way it did. Depsite that, I'm not a goldfish and remember that all of their other recent shows have been stellar>all of hibike eupho was a masterpiece>dragon maids is super fun and kana's movie was amazing>CITY. Need I say more?
>>291444904I have not seen Hibike, I did hear some people were upset over the recent stuff from that series, though. You disagree? Anyway, it's on my list.Dragon Maid was good, which does give me hope.
>>291444506And she even got away with everything and Ryouta was the one arrested.
>>291441366I remember some schizo trying to explain that this scene was a veiled metaphor for public masturbation. He wasn't even joking. He thought that was the intended reading.
>>291444806>>291444873I’ll be honest, by the time they got to that stupid dance battle on the riverboat, I was hate watching. I enjoyed the trainwreck final episodes in a so-bad-it’s-good-way. Who’d have thunk the guy who made Ep 5 of CITY would churn that out? Maybe he didn’t like the scripts and said fuck it?>Grow Up ShowI know cgdct shows are harder to come by these days, but there was much better stuff airing last season than “clown gets cancer”. Kore Kaite Shine for one.
>>291444873>>291444904It's good to see other people who liked Himawari Circus. They had to be very precise with their budget at times, but the show had a soul and a goal to it.
>>291444799Before this thread, I just assumed they reunited when they became roommates sharing the apartment but Nagumo didn't remember or even knew Niikura and latter got lucky to share an apartment with her idol from back then until she learned to know how much of a slob current Nagumo is. But they still became really good friends. But maybe they just crossed around the apartment complex and Nagumo took advantage of Niikura being too kind for own good acting like a fan and before she noticed, Nagumo was already living there instead of her own place.>>291444722Yeah, sadly, I don't think they ever considered making more than one season of the show and only if it became a huge hit like Dragon Maid it would change their idea. But I think this will just stay as some cult and well made production that will thrive on word of mouth from the fans.
>>291444976The ending itself is very slightly controversial because it changes an important outcome from the ending, but the change itself actually serves the story better imo. I loved all three seasons. The only structural issue I can understand people having is the "pacing" as it covers 3 years of high school, but unevenly. Meaning the second season isn't the second year, instead the second year is covered by one or two movies, I think? So the watch order is a little strange. Outside of that, theres shitposting because of yuribaiting, but that's all retardation anyways. The show is extremely good and among the best kyoani has made
>>291421802>Tekaridake is in love with her, we just didn't get that in the anime.>>291423253>And Niikura has a crush on TekaridakeI could see this love triangle going in "City style" with Nagumo knowing about it both and try to get some money from Niikura to set her up with Tekaridake while leading him on a date but bail him last minute so Niikura could get her chance... And it somehow blows on her face later. Maybe because of Wako.
>>291444506She didn't gasbomb the airport. She coerced two minors to do the job for her. A real menace for the whole City.
>>291450505Nagumo will somehow end up on a date with Mr. Long Nose.
>>291451589Yeah, she was just pulling all the strings and then standing there laughing in the middle of it. She's like an arsonist who hands out matches to kids and tells them to play with them while she watches. She did personally blow up the CITY Bridge on race day, though.
>>291452446>She did personally blow up the CITY Bridge on race day, though.Yeah, that was really pretty wild. I wouldn't put past her sabotaging Tanabe's household henchmen if she already didn't pull that shit on the bridge. Well, she still got lucky Dr. Adatara's rocket car blew up otherwise her whole plan would fail.Couldn't Wako just get the prize and give to Ecchan and Matsuri? She's Joker level of being chaotic and what she does to get what she wants.
What was you guy's favourite track?https://youtu.be/wNadi13a52M?si=hvVNO3muEDaxpJJm
>>291453646I was under the impression Riko hacked Dr.Adatara's rocket car to make that happen
>>291454244Idk the name specifically, but it was one that played very often when Ecchan and Matsuri were goofing about
>>291444562-4 years and 348 dayshttps://desuarchive.org/a/thread/229809490/never EVER re-reading the sleepwalking volume
>>291454557HhhmmmDangerously close to 365... meaning... five years....
>>291453646That wasn't luck, that was Wako enlisting her sister to hack it.I think Wako wanted them to also have a happy memory of winning, not just the prize.
>>291454557Regarding the spoiler text, does that volume stink?
>>291454728Definitely time to do it again. Especially since a lot of us got into CITY through the anime and weren't around for the threads 5 years ago.
>>291455788
>>291455044Oh damn. Then even more reason how scary Wako actually is. She's just there having a good time and will fuck you up to get what she want.So I guess the only time she had to concede >>291442495 was to get an autograph from Magaka-san?
>>291456461
>>291457213*cums*
>>291456945Hey, her account has more subscribers than Niikura's "moe video account".>>291454244Get funky https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2Axfp9kvwc
>>291455395you know that one post-credit short about following the sleepwalking girl as she goes through wacky places? Imagine a whole week and a half of no conversations, just slapsticks and overexagerrations. It's just boring and the little bits of mirth do not make up for it
>>291457798Tekaridake and Wako are the other two subscribers.
>>291458096Why is she so mad?
>>291457917I see, thanks for the info /a/non.
>>291454557So between this and the OP, is there a detailed map of the CITY? This is one that I would love to just go around and visit in some kind of interactive streetview. Or some kind of simple game. I mean, there's a rocket launch site there.
>>291459447The shots were pretty consistent, and there were a bunch of them.
>>291459691>>291459939Great pics anon! They really have everything planned there. It's not random. I wish we got a bit more like seeing where the race went. Where the main trio lives and how far is from the Makabes and Adataras.
>>291460060I can do one better. Because in the first episode we zoomed in on where the Makabe restaurant is, so we can actually know where a lot of the action takes place. It's the tall building at the center of these circles.
>>291460316They're one street over from where the second car bridge is, away from the rail bridge.
>>291460316Er, sorry, they're next to the tall building.
Their street has the nice CITY sign at the end of it, too. For any shots we see with that sign.
>>291460316>>291460377>>291460397Great detective anon!
>>291459713>>291459754Near the first car bridge away from the rail bridge, you can see where the practice soccer field is. A lot of characters hang out there by the path along the river. I think most scenes along the river took place between the two car bridges. We've seen that first bridge a lot from the ground. It's probably not too far from where Sweet Olive Manor is located. And across the river, those brown buildings lined up in what kinda looks like a campus is Mont Blanc University. In fact the big blue sign matches another one we see from ground level in episode 3. When we've seen it, it has those same brown and white building colors. Off the right, you can see the soccer stadium, where Tatewaku has his actual games. In the lower left, those three identical yellow-ish buildings in a line are where Ecchan lives.
More evidence that Sweet Olive Manor is somewhat close to the first bridge on the Makabe side of the river is that Wako runs across that bridge to get to the temple, and then we scan see rather different terrain on the side of the bridge she and the temple are at while she waits for Nagumo and Niikura to catch up. That's not the dirt paths we see on the Makabe restaurant side of the river. So I suspect the temple is directly opposite the practice soccer field.
>>291461207So Niikura was just out of college when she was moping about her pendant with the football kids? And damn, Ecchan lives quite far from Matsuri.>>291461306But you have more then one river crossing the CITY. I would guess the temple is around there in the circle, near Ecchan's home.
>>291458201Cause Niikura and Nagumon are mad too and it looks like fun!
>>291461553Oh, there it is! I could not find the temple arch where I was looking and tried to guess, but that's definitely it. So I guess it was a different bridge after all. In which case, I don't know where Sweet Olive Manor might be. I would assume close enough to Mont Blanc. Perhaps the treasure map shows more clues.
>>291460316That's a big city
>>291461306
>>291461553>just out of college, well, this is summer so she doesn't have class right now. She was probably looking for the mimineko and started moping around there when she was tired
>>291459691So, can we assume this is the high school? Quite far from where Matsuri lives but would explain why she and Ecchan were so close and hang out after school.
>>291461950Yeah, I think that is the high school. But Ecchan and Matsuri are middle schoolers, so their school is somewhere else.
>>291461950They're in middle school anon
>>291461950Well actually, it might be the smaller area right across from the high school, below it on that image.
>>291461950And the temple is to the right of there, which would line up with the route they took out of the middle school to go play god. It fits. Now if we look at the treasure map, I think it suggests that Sweet Olive Manor is actually in the same neighborhood. The roads line up, what we can see of them. And I assume one of those symbols is meant to indicate where they are.
>>291462004>>291462129Yeah, it wouldn't be weird having the middle school and high school "integrated".>>291461703Just makes me wonder how far they chased the mimineko across the CITY. And where the race happened.
I really never expected to have such a good idea of where everything is in the CITY. But sure enough, the clues are actually all there. Good work, anons.
>>291462196So if this is a local map, this puts them pretty close to the Tanabe mansion, actually, which makes sense for Wako to see the towers so clearly once she started looking for the pendant, if she didn't travel far before climbing that pole. >>291459822
>>291454557>>291457917Pleb taste
>>291408886Thank you to the anon running this and the anons who participated!
>>291464237Thank you to you!
>>291462196Also quite near the school. But yeah, assuming the map also has the location where they are and not that they just figure it out with the indication of the temple and the roads nearby.>>291462298I played my fair share of SimCity back in my day and love just driving/walking around in those "openworld" games set in cities. So I'm quite autistic about it. But thanks. I notice while I was watching that those locations weren't really random and the author and the anime team probably have everything organized there. The anime build well how the CITY is integrated.
>>291408886I liked the visuals
>>291461306>>291461686One of the best gags. I love Wako >>291458096
>>291462196>>291462298Maybe the manga can give us more clues? Some mangakas give us the map of their area. Granted, they are based on real areas and I don't know if CITY is based on a real place in Japan.
>>291419866So, is the hooded person Tanabe's mother or something?
>>291412982>Honkan's in loveWhat a slut. He gave in later.
>>291460316Would the trendy place where Tatewaku got his literal rags be nearby? It looks like that area is the main commercial one of the CITY. But that place and the people around don't look like any of our regular characters or the usual background ones.
>>291472097No idea.
>>291462196I don't think the map represent where they are. Only where the treasure is.If we take the markings of the map, they would need to be between the middle school and the riverbank >>291461950 Their complex doesn't look to be on a main road but from that same viewpoint, it looks too close to be able to see the Tanabe's mansion from down there >>291459822Well, given that Wako was near her home.A bit later, I'll try to thik more about it. There might some other clues around but I'm an animeonly.
Or maybe in >>291459713 and >>291459939 it's exaggerated how high is the mansion compared to the rest of the CITY. We also don't know where Matsuri and Ecchan went in >>291459691
>>291474271I think Ecchan and Matsuri are higher than the mansion.
I had a dream last night that I was scouting out skiing routes with Wako on a snowy mountain. Now what I want is a winter OVA. Let's see the CITY having an epic CITY-wide snowball fight in a way that only the CITY could possibly have. Imagine the snowballs to Niikura's face.
>>291474498We only had spring and summer during the story, right? Does it even snow in CITY? It doesn't in the southern parts of Japan but it would be nice to have Christmas parties with the characters. Ms. Tanabe would be Santa giving awards to everyone.
>>291474498And probably even further away. But they are still seeing the lower half of the CITY. But kinda hard to match with Wako's viewpoint >>291459822It doesn't look to be such a high place nearby the CITY.
>>291434186Every year that pass, they are more and more relatable to me.
We should rewatch Nichijou someday.
>>291477158Next summer!
>>291477384It started spring 2011. We missed out on the 15 year anniversary rewatch. Somebody invent a time machine and go back to this past April.
>>291477796I guess that's what they meant with that ending for CITY.
>>291473855So, thinking about it, from Wako's viewpoint, there are quite few buildings still before the forest. No signs from the railroad so I guess it'll be in the same "sector" as the schools. But this turn to the right that messes me about where is this place. If anyone has a better guess, be my guest. Just trying to guess where Wako was in that scene and assuming she was still near their home.
>>291479431Yeah, the turn to the right is definitely strange.
Another thing to think about is where Riko lives. Apparently it's in the same direction from CITY High School as the Makabe restaurant, unless Tatewaku was really just being extra stalkery, and we saw at least some of the trip. As I recall, they walked by one of the rivers and went through a tunnel. And as for the CITY race, we could try to maybe guess at where the bridge was they ended up.These may be impossible to figure out, but I'm just putting those out there in case some anon has any insights.
>>291480340Aren't the high school >>291461950 and the Makabe restaurant >>291460316 quite far apart?>went through a tunnel. Now this gets me since most of the CITY is on a plain unless some of these roads goes over/under. Maybe they just went under the railroad that crosses the CITY?Do we even know which bridge Wako set her traps where the race ended?
>>291481049Yeah, the tunnel is a bit puzzling. There are some places where maybe a walkway goes under a road or railway or bridge. As for the end of the race, it was a long bridge, much longer than most.
>last 50 posts have been CITYlayout autismBased lmaoAt this point one of you needs to construct this in cities skylines or something
>>291481685This is very important. We are creating the definitive CITY canon here. Soon we'll be able to track character locations and travel routes during each episode.Speaking of, when Niikura took her night binge drive she went by the barber's shop, which is apparently across the street from the police station. If we were able to locate either one of those, we could try to backtrack from there.
>>291460377The racers ended up on the same street as Makabe's restaurant. It's possible the bridge nearby was the final bridge. And if it was a loop
>>291481944Also we know those swing sets next to the police station. That's where Niikura and Wako ended up talking about photography, and then Nagumo showed up and they had a camera fight.
>>291482083
>>291482066Okay, yes, it is a loop, and it starts on Makabe's street. The big rollers of death was near the train station. I think during the race itself they used generic buildings nearby, though.
>>291482173
>>291482186So I suspect this is how it maps out, and the map they gave us is a rough approximation.
>>291482083Uhhhmmm... those are some strange looking CITYzens...
>>291481944>>291482186The CITY sculpted hedge and CITY sign are in Niikura's late night drive! It's not a good match for the road distance or the buildings we see in this image from the first episode zoom-in, but in terms of the turns Niikura takes, it suggests they live approximately here. In actuality, tracing her back from the restaurant she went to late at night, there's a few too many streets she passes before making the second turn. But critically, she does not cross a bridge. There may be more streets than we see on the maps, but in general, I think the late night route places them pretty reliably not all that far from the practice soccer field. Which makes a lot of sense.
>>291482509Besides there being not enough streets between the river and the main road she takes (which also curves, strangely), there's also clearly buildings directly opposite Sweet Olive Manor when we see it street level, which are not depicted on any overhead map.So, alas, there are inconsistencies. But if we take our best evidence and put it together, it suggests the overhead maps are mostly approximations, not accounting for every building and street in the CITY and its appearance, even though it gets it exactly right some of the time. And all of this goes out the window if there are other places in the CITY with the same landmarks identified in the late night drive.Still I think I have a good theory here. And I always assumed Sweet Olive Manor was in that same general area the late night drive suggests, based on other context. It's just not a building we ever get a good look at from above. It's then also likely that Wako was traveling some distance before seeing the hospitality towers go up. Which isn't too unexpected. After all, Niikura and the mimineko both eventually ended up in the vicinity of the middle school, then ended up eventually at the Tanabe Mansion. So once the chase began, they could all have ended up anywhere at all.I also now suspect that Riko lives somewhere in the same part of the CITY, too, leaving really just Ecchan far away from everyone.
bump
>>291420498she is scratching the tumor in her breast
>>291481685>At this point one of you needs to construct this in cities skylines or somethingThere was an attempt to do that for World Triggerhttps://youtube.com/watch?v=yaysmOk5KrM
>>291481685yes lets do this, we also need a minecraft server recreating CITY too
>>291482262I'm dropping the atom bomb here
>>291482565>leaving really just Ecchan far away from everyone.Well, Ecchan lives like a 10~15min walk from school. The Makabes and Riko might have a hard time getting there if their parents don't drop them by car.
>>291479431The position of the two athletic fields is also weird.
>>291484223Which CITY-zen will survive this
>>291485021Could be just regular baseball fields. Although two quite near each other is a bit weird.
>>291485053All of themAdatara will stop it
>>291484223Somehow, our local terrorist would prevent this >>291444506
>>291481685>>291483804Damn, I wish I could but not sure if we had enough information for that. And I think it would still require some mods. But we already did a lot here.
>>291469591>>291419866Who the hell is this person?
>>291488929Doesn't the landlady say it's her brother?
>>291482186>>291482262So the labyrinth was at the university? But freat find anon!
I'd let them hitchhike with me.
>>291491109I think it was insanely cute how those two were going to support Tatewaku that way instead of saying that he got scammed at that clothing store. Him actually managing to get Riko to go on a date with him as friends was a great punchline.
>>291492117Of course this came after they gassed him up and made him wear that even more absurd outfit than he was already wearing. Poor Tatewaku. He's so sincere and naive and everyone around him is a prankster.
>>291492420He deserved for the betrayal.
>>291480340>>291482565Assuming Tatewaku was telling the truth and they live in the same "sector" of the CITY, wouldn't that put Wako living quite near her sister and parents? And was just after the race that we got the info of them being sisters or Riko got her family name dropped before and I just didn't notice?
>>291494286Riko's name got dropped pretty early. Maybe it was at the stalker episode. But we saw Wako in the flashbacks Riko had during her first appearance. They clearly grew up together in the same home.
>>291494367Then I was just a retarded speedwatcher I'm the anon who watched the first 3 episodes last year and finished the series last week. Thanks anon. But how I didn't notice that? I wish we had more of Riko visiting Wako and having Niikura trying to get Riko to get more views on her channel.
>>291434186I loved their segments with how they refused to give up on recapturing the frolicking whimsy of their youth and wanted to make ojisan summer happen so bad
>>291495261Same here. I hope to grow old with just as good buddies as them.
>>291493066Eh, she got over it.
>>291496822Well, Tatewaku better get over being on the friendzone with Riko as well. And if he think his family is full of pranksters, he would go crazy with Wako.
>>291464237Glad some of you joined me.
>>291480340>>291481638You can see the said tunnel was just under the railroad, so I guess they really were going to the downtown where the Makabe's store and other places are located but got separated before that.
>>291498453That's my assumption here. Those kids walk a lot.
>>291498453>>291498589Good work.
>>291482509>>291482565>but in terms of the turns Niikura takes, it suggests they live approximately hereThat I disagree a bit. Niikura turns right, and then left twice so their street is parallel (assuming not many curves on those "straight" paths) from where she finishes. But I agree that it might be to the left of the Makabe/Adatara street and a tad "to the south". Just not sure how close to the field where the kids practice football or the main road after the bridge like in your map there.
>>291499997I ignored the first turn, mostly because otherwise there's just no making sense of it, and it could be some kind of back alley before going onto the main road where Sweet Olive is. That, or there's a whole bunch of other streets between the main road that turns onto Makabe Street and the river. Which, clearly there are based on the trip Niikura took.
>>291500209Yeah, I can see that. Of course they took some liberties there. Maybe there are more than two blocks between the road to the CITY sign and the riverbank. That's why I think they live closer to the football field since they go to that riverbank multiple times during the series.Keep in mind they live right at the street corner.
i gotta watch it
>>291500831You do, yes.
>>291417122who is this semen dem... uh... angel
>>291480340>>291498589I think Riko lives quite near Sweet Olive Manor since when Tatewaku fell from the tree after delivering the bag back to Riko, he was found by our trio. Maybe Wako was visiting her family while Niikura and Nagumo were tagging along until Wako's home while they were doing something else?Maybe Tatewaku and Riko parted ways right after that curve instead of the main road to the left of the train station there on the map.
>>291502077That's a good point, it did seem like the Trio were just going about their normal business, and their normal business seems to happen very often in that same area of the CITY.
>>291503241I love the details of the shitty green screen. It's the little details that shows the budget was quite high.
>>291505128Like the other anon said, it would be fun seeing winter in the CITY. Maybe Ecchan would come to visit Matsuri but she would only speak english >>291423153 and then we would have our characters trying it out as well.
>>291461603Actually small to middle size I would guess. Most of the commercial and activities happens on the region near the circle >>291460316 while most of the CITY looks to be pretty residential areas with probably mom and pops convenience stores around there. They have an airport tho. I thought Ecchan would depart by train before the last episode.
>>291428670>>291428764Hard to blame you anon when they met like that during episode 5.
>>291494367>>291495155I forgot they came together during the last episode.
>>291510851Wako needed Riko for hacking into Dr. Adatara's camera feeds spying on the place. It would've been cool to see the sisters together at a time when Wako wasn't just using her imouto for illegal acts.
>>291511780Yeah, so many stuff that I wanted to see it fleshed out. We talked about how Shia is important to other characters when I don't remember if she has a single line. I sure wanted to see more of the old dudes bonding together and their antics >>29143418613 episodes were really not enough.
>>291454557>>291460397Ecchan was snubbed from the intro.
>>291413308So, when's their date? Also, I have a friend who was not a footballer but he fucked up his knee and have a pretty similar scar. I'm impressed that Tatsuta can carry Tanabe and jump with her.
>>291421802How could he not?
>>291514591I got a bad knee too, also from soccer. I've avoided surgery on it at least, I don't trust that it won't make it worse. Still, it works most of the time. I could certainly bridal carry Tanabe. Maybe not jump with her, but then again she is very small.
>>291482509>>291482262>>291500209Ok, so considering everything including my assumptions, that's what I came up with. I agree that the Police Station/Barber Shop are on a road that ends up on the CITY sign (why is that thing there anyway?). I think the Sweet Manor and Riko's home are pretty close on the same "neighborhood" >>291502077 but the Sweet Manor closer to the riverbank as their residents going around that area many times. The rest I think we can say for certain about the University, the schools, the temple, Ecchan's home and the Makabe/Adatara on the same street as the Late Night Snack. There are a lot of places missing, but I don't know if we can say with just the info we have from the anime. I feel like many places are in that "downtown" area near the train station with many stores and stuff. Like I think the editorial for the mangaka is in that area. But I can't say the same about that other restaurant Mr. Makabe went and the mangaka ordered some food. Or the hospital (maybe that big building on the right?)I think most of the CITY are of residential areas and the airport is on the outskirts of the CITY but can't be seen from even >>291459691Maybe with more info we could do something like a Cities or Minecraft project but at least I can say the author made me care about the CITY.
schitty schkylines
>>291516160The building next to Makabe on the other side of Adatara, the tall brown building, is the CITY Magazine office. So all the scenes we see with the editors are right next door. That's probably why Makabe is so close with the head editor. The Three Crows are all neighbors, at least their places of business. We don't know where the pawn shop is, but it's likely close by as well, since we often see the Trio and Duo walking by there.I could believe the Boutique is near the train station but it really could be anywhere.
>>291516360Oh, I see it makes sense the three crows being so close then. But yeah, I can see those places all being in the same "area". I think many scenes of Ecchan and Matsuri happening nearby the school as well. That only leaves the area around the University and the University itself kinda unexplored except for when Tekaridake did their performances.
>>291515432I'm sorry to hear that. I'm close to said friend and he went through a rough time in physiotherapy until he got back to a normal life. He avoids running and heavyweights because of his knee but I think is mostly afraid of messing up again than actually not capable anymore.
>>291518140Yeah, it's largely about prevention. When I aggravate mine it swells up and I'm pretty messed up for a week or more, sometimes bad enough that I can barely walk. I've figured out over time that if I avoid inflammatory foods I'm way less prone to it getting that bad, and it's reduced frequency of problems, and I take some anti-inflammatory supplements too. But the joint is still fundamentally and forever altered. Some things I just don't risk anymore, like cycling.Wasn't one of the theories (or was it confirmed?) I heard about Nagumo going from being this crazy athlete beating all the clubs at school into a lazy slob (that still can jump and run really well) is that she got an injury, maybe a knee injury? She's obviously recovered pretty well, but maybe it happened at a particular time in her life and she lost her motivation.
Do I really need to read the manga first?
>>291518707No.
>>291520817>>291521354The first CITYzen happy to get a prize.
He's a good boy.
>>291518336I love cycling. Running get on my knees from time to time so I avoid it. But never had a serious injury. It's just age.But I guess it's up to the individual. My friend put up with the costs and recovery of the surgery and you put up with the problems of your injury. As long as both of you can deal with each situation, it's fine for all of you.>about Nagumo going from being this crazy athlete beating all the clubs at school into a lazy slob (that still can jump and run really well) is that she got an injury, maybe a knee injury?I doubt with how fast she can run and all her crazy jumps like what made Ms. Tanabe want to kidn~giver her a prize. I think she's a crazy athlete but awful at dealing with people so she fucked up team sports and couldn't handle individual ones due the bureaucracy of the competitions (rules about entering, sponsors, schedule and so on). She can't handle losing. Remember how badly she took the quiz competition. And maybe that's what put her in that situation. She also lost motivation in the middle of the race after she thought she couldn't win and Niikura had to call her out.Be in mind only Mr. Makabe wanted to hire Nagumo and he's wacky as well. The others who put up with Nagumo are Niikura who felt in debt with her before becoming a real friend, Wako who is Wako and Tekaridake: a guy who talks to animals.
>>291523692What the hell is Wako doing there?
>>291524580>This is Ecchan's first loveHopefully, she'll find someone better in England.
>>291519891If Wako is barely at her own home, why doesn't she just move out with Niikura and they negotiate a bigger rent so both can pay? Well, Wako basically lives there as well >>291435082I don't even know how they can fit everyone's stuff in just one room.
>>291527970What Wako does at University? Photography? What each of the girls do? Nagumo was doing those plays but she was just a helper.
>>291519891Niikura is clearly pissed at Nagumo denying her a late night snack.
>>291530617And she's contemplating whether to just gobble up Nagumo to sate her insatiable appetite.
>>291532552I loved that gag during that episode. Nagumo going nuclear was awesome. Quiz King didn't live up to his name.
>>291531663Bu isn't Nagumo moneysexual? And Wako just inside the closet?
>>291534100Well he's the self-described Quiz King. That's not his actual name. His ambition and optimism were greater than his ability.
>>291534681
>>291535741Nagumo doesn't look very confortable about this situation. And was this before Wako "moved it"?
>>291536633This was before they met Wako.
>>291408886CITY? More like SHITTY.
>>291536866>>291535741So they just had a lot of free room in that closet so Wako could move her stuff >>291435082 ?
>>291538060Apparently. Maybe Niikura is just too short and weak to put her stuff on that shelf.
>>291418805What Niikura does for a living? Is she just a regular student? Well, besides trying to be a youtubber/influencer.>>291536866Kinda curious how they never met before being neighbors. The mangaka as well.
>>291539397The Trio are all students at Mont Blanc University.
>>291540110What a slob.>>291539555Yeah, but are Niikura and Wako getting money from their parents? Doesn't make much sense for Wako living alone just few blocks from her parents when it looks like she has a good relationship with them?We don't know anything about Nagumo's backstory. Maybe her family is not from the CITY so that's why she went away and came back for some reason?
I shat myself when I saw this.
>>291541184Whenever the subject of money comes up, Wako always says she doesn't need any, so she's either rich or has some kind of business making money for her while she goofs off.
>>291493066He could have had THIS but he's too RETARDED to see what's right in front of him.
>>291541960She probably sells Riko's inventions. Like that drone our trio thought it was a UFO.
>>291541960And what, get his heart broken when she moves to England?
>>291542509Well, he had his heart broken quite near his own home anyway. But just you wait when Ecchan realizes that marrying Tatewaku means spending more time with Matsuri. She'll come back from England to take him as soon as she finishes her studies or use the money to visit before that.
>>291542502Ooh, good point.
>>291541238I honestly got a jumpscare and still have no idea what the hell is this.
>>291544216I think it's known as an Aioi Special.
>>291541960
>>291545665why is this scene so gay for straight girls?
>>291545801Have you ever met middle school girls? They are extremely physically affectionate with each other.
>>291545801>>291546155They're just friends. Their pure friendship is one of the most beautiful things in CITY.. You could say something about Niikura but even that one wants a man >>291423253But I have no idea what she sees on him
>>291544774I think Mimineko and the Tsuchinoko are fine but those other animals and... that are a tad too weird for the CITY.Like, the whole scene with Niikura getting her pendant back was one of the weirdest of the entire series.
>>291510851Why is she so sleepy even with her beloved sister?
>>291549765She's handling school alongside teaching herself about all the tech stuff. She's got to get sleep at any little moment she can find for it.
>>291514591I kinda feel sorry for him. The implication that he had a career ending injury and never made enough money to get him and his family a comfort life is kinda sad but it happens in sports more often than what we would expect.Glad he's a hard worker and didn't let that get through him. Probably one of the reasons Ms. Tanabe admires him so much.Well, it doesn't help when the Adataras just give away stuff that Tatsuta got that are quite valuable.I wonder if Tatsuta would be reluctant on dating Ms. Tanabe feeling it might look like he would be with her just for her money or if he could really start liking her for real.
>>291514591The wildest thing about them is that they're seemingly in their 30's.
>>291553263Well Tatsuta is a former footballer. They peak at their mid to late 20s and are very prone at those severe injuries that takes half a year to recover. So I can see him getting that injury and retiring in his late 20s not getting a new club or just giving up after many injuries. So him being in his 30s is pretty fine.Tanabe on the hand that looks way younger but she's a small and sheltered lady.
>>291414646>Niikura gets her pendant back and seems to find peace out of all her frustrating experiences and struggles.Yeah, that's only until Wako and specially Nagumo find that pendant again.Until Niikura faces Nagumo about their past she'll be wary of either of them finding that pendant. Didn't Matsuri see what's inside or just Ecchan? Matsuri could connect the dots or just thing it belonged to Nagumo and not Niikura. And Nagumo would probably just thank Niikura for admiring her back then. At most she would tease her a bit.
>>291459691oh. i recognize this general layout. CITY is set in izumo, shimane.
>>291556007So we can visit the CITY? Also guess where is the airport then.
>>291417821Why have the trio as kids or kids looking like our main trio in the opening? I don't think Niikura interacted with Nagumo before they met again at the Sweet Olive Manor and Wako might younger or older than then with a childhood unrelated to both.
>>291548928It was one of the best of the whole series. And don't worry about the Aioi Special. Yuuko discovered him, and he's a clearly a kind and generous being who understands the needs of others and wants to help.
>>291558639So does it mean he's staying with the Makabes? I wanted to see Tatewaku and Matsuri reacting to him showing up at their restaurant.>he's a clearly a kind and generous being who understands the needs of others and wants to help. So, he had 100 yen with him or did he just steal from the shop?
>>291551987His dad keeps giving away their most expensive liquors to Three Crows parties.
>>291560027Well, that's for personal use. The stuffed doll he used to pay for a haircut.
>>291559664The 100 yen was there on the ground nearby, that's why Niikura assaulted him. She saw him as an obstacle between her and the money on the ground. But he didn't take it personally, and he understood what her troubles were. He took them money, went and exchanged it for the pendant, and then left the pendant where the coin was so she'd find it when she woke.
>>291561403Interestingly, the 100 yen on the ground aren't there in the mange. There, Niikura just attacks it because it's blocking her path, and it's really unclear where it got the money from.
>>291554880with the art style I literally thought at first that Tanabe was a schoolgirl ojousama instead of also being in her 30s
>>291561650Yeah, I thought she was a school kid not even in college yet, or a college freshman or sophmore also on summer vacation.
>>291561386It was a good haircut.
>>291554880>Well Tatsuta is a former footballer. They peak at their mid to late 20s and are very prone at those severe injuries that takes half a year to recover. So I can see him getting that injury and retiring in his late 20s not getting a new club or just giving up after many injuries. So him being in his 30s is pretty fine. There are quite a few examples of talents who already compete at the highest level before they even hit 20, and a career ending injury could happen at any career stage. So just based on that, it wouldn't be weird for him to be in his mid 20s either.
Didn't Tatsuta come back from his injury and still play after that for at least a while?
>>291561403Wouldn't be easier to just let Niikura get the 100yen? Well, I guess he wanted to test her willpower. But that whole segment was pretty trippy.
>>291565773He was just standing there. Niikura is the one who decided he was intentionally blocking off the yen and attacked him.
>>291565773She needed to get her frustrations out more than she needed the money. The Aioi Special did the right thing by letting her get that aggression out. His nose is immune to damage anyway. He was willing to spend all that time with her to help her. What a nice creature. The CITY is so nice.
>>291565827I'm glad Honkan-san wasn't there to see that.>>291565924Ok, but was Niikura the only person in the CITY to get to see the Aioi Special? Mimineko is treated as just a regular stray cat. Tsuchinoko still looks like a snake. Well, it's a bit weird how the CITYzens are so used to see a snake and pet him like a regular pet? Well, don't know about the other special animals that lives in the CITY.
Whos the best girl, again?
>>291567317WAKO!
>>291567317Yuuko and she didn't even appear in person just by call
>>291564589Well, I'm talking about the average athlete. It's not like Tatsuta was someone like Yamal, Messi, Kaka and such. When you're 20something, you can still be back after a severe injury. Might not be as great as you were before but still play well enough. But some players end up retiring because of recurrent injuries when they get at a certain age. So him being in his early 30s is believable considering most players end up retiring in their late 30s. But his situation wasn't as great so he thought it would be better to go back home.>>291564956He may have gotten another injury on the same knee or some other part of his legs. Like I said, some athletes, after the first injury, they end up having many that hinders their performance. Just read about Ronaldo's career. The original one, not the Portuguese guy.
>>291565774What is Nagumo doing there?
>>291567317For me it's Ms. Tanabe, but Wako is definitely #2.
>>291567317Our favorite terrorist Wako here >>291566455But Ecchan is a close second.
>>291569971only one terrorist and he was arrested for stalling a plane
>>291561650>>291562377I honestly can't tell apart Shia from the twins besides the Mr Explosion. >>291509922
>>291570263Sora has the band on her left hand. Umi on the right. Sora is younger. Sora is best.
I will admit I think Amazon did a good job with the dub, especially the theatre troupe's performances.
>>291571026Too bad they were barely in the anime.>>291571790Fuuuu-sion-ha!
>>291573662That's nice to hear, I guess. They really fucked up the subs, particularly in episode 5, due to their utter unwillingness to show more than one subtitle on the screen at a time.
Sora is the strong one.
>>291573662>>291574657Funny how the pt-br subs were kinda a mess just like what we were seeing on the screen at the same time. Brazilian dub also did a great job. Specially Wako's VA. Next time I rewatch, I'll try with the dub.
>>291572447Well, thankfully they're half of the residents of the Sweet Olive Manor since they sure do a lot of noise at the night.
>>291566455So, they haven't met before and just happen to be neighbors?
>>291570012Exactly buddy. Just keep going and don't look back.
>>291574657Yeah, Amazon subs are underwhelming. I tried watching GitS there but they fucked up a lot of exposition text without any translations.
>>291567317The one with same VA as my beloved Mikuru, Ms. Tanabe. It was a delight to hear her again.
>>291433866Where?
>>291567521But she didn't answer the call, right?
>>291411960>Midori Nagumo>Wako Izumi>NiikuraSo we just don't know her full name for some reason? We also don't get anything about Nagumo's family but we got her first name at the job posting and the wanted poster.
>>291577801Yes.
>>291584281It's Michael J. Niikura. It's on screen.
>>291580751I love Yuuko Gotou.
>>291488929>>291489551Oh, so the older/younger brother? Well, he came up with all the stuff to not let the person run away from their award so I wouldn't say "good for nothing". Unless Ms. Tanabe is the only one doing anything for the company's family.
>>291586632We know so little about the landlady except that she's very angry and violent. We don't know what basis she is using to describe the Tanabe son that way. We know that Ms. Tanabe is well-respected in the CITY, and is/was a police officer. So it could be as simple as relativity to her.
>>291587212>We know that Ms. Tanabe is well-respected in the CITY, and is/was a police officer. Wait, what? And why?
>>291587933
>>291587933>>291588204I guess "predecessor" isn't as clear as "previous officer".
>anime skipping Wako's pantiesThis is why it flopped
>>291588182>>291588204>>291588217I thought she was just disguised as a cop or something like that. Why an ojou like her is a police officer? Well, not like Honkan-san does much work anyway.
>>291588729She's doing the right thing by keeping the CITY safe. I assume she got hurt on the job. Anyway, Honkan isn't an official officer. I think he's just filling in until she got her leg all better and then gets Tatsuta. With the words under his hat, I feel like he's probably a member of the Tanabe staff. But that's all speculation on my part.
>>291589158>I feel like he's probably a member of the Tanabe staff. No, he doesn't know Tanabe at the beginning.
>>291589366Oh, so he's not from the CITY.>>291588182So, if she sees any people doing a good deed while in patrol, she just kidnaps and then give them an award?
>>291589366Ah, okay. So when does he meet her? He salutes her at the hospitality.Man we really gotta do a manga storytime.
>>291586086I guess Niikura and Nagumo aren't that close to call each other Michael and Midori then. I know it's her pen name. But why she came with that?Funny how both call Wako by her given name.
>>291588182Does she asks Hodaka to award a criminal?
>>291590616Well Wako and Riko were not invited to the hospitality. Ryouta was, but Ryouta had not stopped a plane yet. He might have been stalking his underage nextdoor neighbor and her friend, though. And Wako showed up on her own. So I would suggest the known criminal element don't get awards.
Was that a young Quiz King?
>>291592549I thought Quiz King was still a student but considering Ms Tanabe and Shia, I guess we can't be sure about anyone's age in this anime.
>>291593156If he's college-aged now, that would make him roughly the same age as Nagumo in present day. You think he's younger than that?
>>291593174I just thought he was one of those big kids who shaved his head because of some sports club he goes at his school. But yeah, we never saw him with the other high school kids. Why he even has this name by the way?
>>291593645Quiz King is just what he calls himself, it's not his real name. But it's the only name we have for him.
Everyone else in the flashback Niikura had was just a random.
>>291591842Well, Ryouta is also a minor. Probably why he got away with what he did at the airport. But I guess Tanabe just didn't know about Ryouta. On the other hand, she might turn a blind eye to the brother of her crush.
>>291594139Yeah, we can guess that the most important thing for Niikura during those days were how awesome Nagumo was.
>>291588223I didn't notice the alligator costume came with a head as well. But I didn't get the impression she was just with her underwear there. Also wonder if that's her own home or still at Niikura's.
>>291586413Same here anon! Too bad for not many prominent roles. At least we can add Ms. Tanabe to the list.
>>291598023Wait, her fake name if somehow that's not her real name was a foreshadowing for the end of the anime all along?
>>291599985Cute friends. But Matsuri will miss her pillow.
>>291603625How would Wako explain her friends to Riko?
>>291515320I doubt this wouldn't go viral in just few weeks. Niikura was just jealous she can't act as cute as Nagumo.
More Nagumo feet
>>291605870You're disgusting and I hate you. But here you go, CITYfriend.
>>291606081I'm not the one that makes Nagumo lose her shoes every episode
>>291408886>do a final reviewI dropped it 2 episodes in, it was pretty unfunny, but I wasn't expecting more from the same author as Nichijou. I just gave it a chance because of KyoAni
>>291606459Well, I watched like 2 or 3 episodes last year and only came back two weeks ago because of those threads. Episode 4 and 5 are among the best of everything I watched this year. I'll remember Episode 5 alone for years.
>>291606459Those are the worst two episodes. It's a slow start but when it gets going the series is really good.
>>291608275You could question why she would do that until you're reminded that's her own home and not Nagumo's.
What would happen if this person became a teacher of the CITY school?
