This is every personally penned bat not attached to a wall or a cave they could get. >Billy is seemingly omniscient>Billy can only speak with specific, seemingly arbitrary people>Billy needs his shape to be seen to communicate>Keeps relying on random cartoonists to spread his picture>Never try the Chuck Culkin route of becoming a hugely popular mascot so he has an easier time reaching out to people he needs>When he does speak, he just gives vague instructions about where to go and what to doSometimes, I wonder if he's deliberately making things hard for himself just for kicks.
>>291424095Yeah, they supposedly deciphered it (I mean for all we know it's still just another pair of random sequences that happen to end with the same numbers, since the numbers only have any meaning to us), but it's just funny that the breakthrough came when they applied the Japanese order to the Japanese scroll.
>>291424270It was the same when Gary "figured out" how the murders with the Japanese sword were done according to the Japanese calendar. It's just a joke since Gary was the murderer and that was just smoke and mirrors, but hey it's similar.
>>291423510jesus what a smug fucking face
>>291424228I don't think Billy is actually omniscient, I think he can only know things that his carriers know. It just doesn't matter when those people become carriers. Or rather, he was 'born' already knowing everything all his future carriers would come to know, including the things they realised about his own nature and what he can/can't do. But he still has lots of blind spots, especially about things that he never saw in previous timelines.
>>291424228Billy doesn't really have a problem with communicating with people, it's that the people he can communicate with are unwilling to listen to him. I chuck what he says being vague to him having a different perspective on the flow of time than we do.

>>291423623Is this as hilarious in Japanese as it is in American?
>>291424387In the coming chapters we see Billy struggling with some real poor reception, as in non-existent. It's even visualized so you know how little choice he has.
>>291424387It's true that most of them don't want to listen because they don't want to think of themselves as crazy or because they don't want to think they can manipulate the world like a god, but it's also true that him being vague just makes things worse for the relationship
>>291424228The way I see it is Billy is extradimensional making him omniscient about stuff in the 3d world but having trouble directly contactig this world. Imagine if we as 3d beings saw a 2d world with a 3rd dimension being time. We'd see snapshots of the 2d world at different points in time and could find out literally everything that has and will happen in this 2d world, but reaching out it and telling its inhabitants this is a whole different ordeal. (we are here)so far, the scroll is not really a key to a big treasure or cosmic secret, it was never meant to give powers or anything as everyone else thought. its just a chronicle of key events, the bat hoped for people to see those events, but thats it.
>>291429345that's the dude from the comic shopthe one who wanted the ludicrously expensive issue of Captain Unknown
>>291430404"encoded drawing a of a bat" is a cosmic secret though, it gives real powerit is a grimoire that lets you summon a demoncave, moon are where you can meet the already summoned batsame ballpark as above, those are not references to eventsI still think the mayan scribble is a rocket engine, although why it's there I can't sayso far only 9/11 is about an eventmaybe the moon too if you're generous
>>291430404The scroll has the glyphs that make the bat, but only certain people can draw the bat. Those who cannot can do one of two things either go to the moon or go to the cave where the caveman drew the bat for the very first time during a specific astronomical event the other clues are about the cave. The Mayan thing is supposed to symbolize a rocket and physically going to the moon, does it not?
>>291430404>an ancient mayan thingy. the only thing i have no idea whats about. If you don't know what is it, why are you talking about it?The drawing is a "rocket".Actually, someone said it looked like a rocket and there is it.

>>291431208I miss u hortler
>>291426866It could be that whoever made that book copy drew the bat from the instructions in the scroll. Honestly I don't remember details about the book too well anymore other than Kurusu complaining that it's a fake that doesn't work. That's funny that Urasawa covered the scroll with a word bubble so you can't tell. Most people would probably assume it's the same.
>>291432046>It could be that whoever made that book copy drew the bat from the instructions in the scroll.unlikelythe instructions are for the Yamagata versionthe easiest way to tell is note that there is only one tooth in the component listyou can also see the prominent cheek if you look closely
>>291431375Fucking hell, the Jesus arc feels so long ago in retrospect. It's amazing how much crazier it's gotten since.
>>291431031The Mayans couldn't have possible come up with the concept of space rockets so this is dumb and silly. The only reason Urusawa included them was because the whole 2012 Mayan Apocalypse was still fresh in everyone's mind.
>>291418738I've missed you, original Kevin
>>291419261Fuckin what?
>>291433729>this is dumb and sillyYour saying that in a manga about a talking bat that connects all the biggest American conspiracy theories together? Ever heard of Erich von Däniken and ancient astronauts? Of course it's silly, but it's also a XVI century scroll that contains a encrypted message about 2001 09 11, your suspension of disbelief should be big enough to accept it at this point. There's a drawing of a bat on the moon for crying out loud.
>>291433729>The Mayans couldn't have possible come up with the concept of space rockets so this is dumb and sillyI don't see why they wouldn't. Every civilization has looked up at the stars wanting to go there, the idea of a ship that can travel through space isn't exactly an out there idea only conceivable by modern day. Now whether they actually created one is a different story, but making an art piece about it seems reasonable enough.

And the image of the bat can be spread if other people see the bat being drawn by someone who can hear the bat.The scroll was maybe important in ancient times, but in the story we readers actually follow its meaningless

>>291443668The way Urasawa drew the background behind the curtain to be warped like that is so good.
>>291436239I can buy that that and eldritch abomination from the 5th dimension takes the form of a cartoon bat because they is what the human mind can handle and that it has taken an interest in guiding humanity for its own unknown reasons. But I draw the line at the Mayans knowing about fucking modern rocketry. Their knowledge of mechanics stopped at the wheel, there's simply no way for them to have conceived of it. I could buy it if they had made a drawing of like a Pyramid magically floating up to space orsm something.
>>291444032Granted it has nothing to do with the Mayans knowing about modern rocketry, it's about a Swiss writer reinterpreting ancient symbols as such. If ancient aliens is too much for you, you'll hate the bat's origin.

>>291463373Thanks OPI don't get it
>>291463529Basically this.
>>291463568NTA, but that makes no sense. Kevin drew an end-of-the-world as if everyone died. But Billy here implied it would be more like erasing the entire planet/universe.Then there is of course the canon ending to the manga, which mentioned it was some sort of poison gas attack, but that happened far off in the future and in america
>>291463607That would've happen if Kurusu made his wish, but he didn't, Kevin rewrote it, whatever that means.
>>291463607Kurusu said he wanted the world to end with him, so that's what's being pictured. How metaphorical is this? Is the bat physically flying off the planet? Probably not. But, we just don't know. It didn't happen.
>>291446720The difference is, Billy Bat characters don't have superhero powers with laserbeam superman shit, they're all just average human being like what you see in real life.Coupled with government's conspiracy, CIA, FBI shit which also just like real life.
>>291463607>>291463861ending spoilersI wish the ending had something, anything at all with Billy's ultimate goal or meaning of existence, and dealt with his decision/need to leave the planetdoes he care about humanity, or is he just stuck with them? why was he so adamant to influence the events so much?that would have been a fitting conclusion to the storyinstead the ultimate moral is "draw, nigga" and some wank about how having a bat in your heart and on your fabric makes us all brothersthere's also some stuff about how humanity should fix its own mistakes or choose its own future, but it completely doesn't fit because 99.9999% of humanity isn't even aware of the real Billy and wasn't looking to it for guidance to begin with
>>291463373thanks OPI'll be the dissenting voice here and say I didn't like this chapterall wish fulfillment illusions are the samethe reader figures out it's all a dream around page 3, and immediately knows the entire rest of the chapter is going to be a waste of time until the character finally wakes upor dies, in the case of KurusuI don't think it's an interesting perspective on the mind of Kurusu eitherhe's just generically the best at everything and liked by everyone, the way it always works with wish fulfillment dreamsI suppose I should give him points for not ending WW2 singlehandedlyeither way, I don't see the narrative purpose of this chapter, we already knew the world would have been fucked if Kurusu hadn't changed his mindeven the bat flying away from the earth was already in some earlier chapter

>>291465939>but the bat promised Kurusu that, just before Earth ended, the bat would show Kurusu the life Kurusu wanted>it wouldn't be "real", just a mirage for Kurusu to experienceI don't think it was an illusion anon, i think billy actually rewind time to give him his best life (dad is a responsible man rather than an idealist communist, supporting his son talents) and then once it was over he leaves. We just saw fractions of his life which is why it looks to the reader as an illusion, but kurusu lived through it until the end.
>>291463365This is the part i don't understand, even reading all of it.In the end...the bat just hated his job as an administrator and wanted to quit, didn't he? He leaves but we see earth still exists, it wasn't destroyed, rewinding time simply freed him from his job.The bat can't be trusted, neither the white and black, it just keeps telling lies to further his grand plan which is to leave earth. Just like how it kept telling Oswald/Kevin Yamagata/Kanbei/etc etc how they were going to become a hero/lord/king/etc but in the end, all they did was make sure the next person that could see billy doesn't die, and lead history to someone (in this case kurusu) asking the wish to the moon bat.
>>291471466I don't think soas you can see here >>291369403, Billy says he will have something nice happen "just for Kurusu" (特別に), and "just for a moment" (一瞬だけ)both imply this is an irregular, and fleeting, treatment, not a normal wish-grantingand, well, we know from how wishes work that Billy couldn't make the alternative life happen for real, that would have required a spare Earth that isn't there
billy bump
You know I've been thinking about it and Billy Bat has a lot in common with persona 2>Both are about a supernatural being that can affect reality through humans (the manga, rumors)>Both have the stakes being "total apocalypse">Both main characters had/have a love interest that are/were whores>Both are only known as "that thing with Hitler in it"
>>291464600I'd agree but the end was enjoyable enough for me to still see it as a good chapter
>>291463153>>291463225>he just wanted to be an animator Holy shit, he's evil Tezuka.
>>291475732>hitler wanted to be a painter>karate chop wanted to be an animatorMaybe Nazi Chuck was onto something. We need to kill all artists.
>>291465939It's kind of a nice moment. We know it wasn't real, but at least for the duration, Kurusu got to have some of the happiness he spent his whole life searching for and would have destroyed the planet for it he could. That his suffering and effort bore some fruit, even if it was just a passing fantasy of what could have been, he got to live some of his happy life and experience what he dreamt he could have
>Kiyoshi just wanted to be an artist>Hitler just wanted to be an artistSo it's going to turn out that all the other realities were destroyed because random people wanted to rewrite history so they would be good at drawing, isn't it?
>>291476067>We need to kill all artists. The problem isn't artists, it's aspiring artists who lack the Divine Spark that caused all that trouble. The NGMIs of the world. Nothing changes a man quite so much as realizing that you lack the "certain something" that allows you to create "art". You can put lines on the paper and mimic the works of others well enough, but your works always lack the spark that embodies the expression of the human soul. It's an abstract kind of hell knowing that, no matter how much time you spend drawing and in spite of all the time you've already spent trying, you'll never make it.
>>291476574>Kurusu got to have some of the happiness he spent his whole life searching for and would have destroyed the planet for it he could. That his suffering and effort bore some fruit, even if it was just a passing fantasy of what could have beenwell, except, and I hate to rain on the parade, it didn't happen, even as a fantasythis whole chapter is just Kevin drawing a comic of what Kurusu would have seen, if he had made his wishbut in the end Kurusu didn't choose to experience itand even Kevin only saw this fantasy in the form a sketch comicthat we read it in reality-vision is entirely for the reader's convenience, literally no-one in the manga saw what we've seenKurusu did achieve some inner peace, but it was by sitting on the Moon, thinking his father would be proud of him, and looking at the tranquil Earth
>>291476906let's not get overly dramatic, hereeverybody can createevery kid drew something when they were youngI bet you had fun back then, anonyou can go back to it
>>291477416>>291369403
>>291477537that was if Kurusu acceptedbut he didn'tthe current chapter spells it out multiple times, and even on the last page Kevin plainly says that it was what was supposed to happen, but he denied itI frankly don't see how it can be interpreted differently
did all the previous earths have someone go to the moon and make a wish?
>>291476906I'd read it more in terms of self-expectations. Hitler wanted to go to a super prestigious art school. Kurusu's fantasy had himself as a superstar artist and animator. Neither were content to simply make art. They also had to have prestige. Contrast them with (MAJOR SPOILER) Punished Kevin Yamagata who continued to draw after losing his hands and chose to pursue what interested him (fucking Fuji Pontaro of all things). So perhaps it depends on how each person interprets what it means to "make it." For some it's becoming a globally famous hit. For others it's just they have some story they need to get out of their head no matter what.
>>291463281>Survives an air raid>>291463289>has the fucking beret>>291463292>even has the most blatant Astro Boy expy possibleHe really is just alt universe Tezuka.
>>291471817According to Einstein, there isn't another Earth left, so if Kurusu's wish was granted, time will still be rebound but it would lead to destruction. I think that's what Billy meant by that it would be fleeting.
>>291465368>>291464600dream?it's real, niggait's the whatif scenario where kurusu made a wish, he gets his wish granted, and then earth gets destroyed because it's the last earth with no other alternate earths
>>291476906>>291478352broader than art, art's just one facet of the desire to create at all costs. it's like when the military industrial complex creates a new weapon system and names it after a Lord of the Rings thing with zero self-awareness. the overwhelming urge and desire to leave a mark on the world through any means necessary, even when creation becomes destruction

>>291479530Yamagata took the initiative to go investigating in Japan twice and going to Dallas to stop Oswald. Most of his downtime was offscreen, timeskipped, and his schizo breakdown was entertaining. Goodman just made some grafitti versions of old bat works and then sat around with writers block before warping reality with meme magic. He's too cool with the bat to the point that it gets a bit boring.

>>291479137that reminds me of the people who think just because Trump became president(again) ww3 was about to happen. Everyone is always freaking out about the end of the world, and in the end, it's nothing. Sure some minor wars happen here and there, the luxury life the common people had is gone, but we're far far far from the doom everyone expected to happen
>>291479473>come with me if you want to live
>>291481962Weird point to make when the stability of the world took a nosedive as a direct result of the towers falling and has yet to recover. If anything it's still going downhill. If things got dramatically worse over say, a major disruption of oil distribution, this could very well all be seen as the prelude to another world war by future historians. Crimea was seen as "a minor war happening here and there" until it resurfaced as a 4 year two week special operation. History takes time to unfold and by the time it's recognized it's too late to stop. But in the internet age if it doesn't keep up with headlines it's a nothingburger.
>>291482041See, this is exactly what I'm talking about. Wars always happened. Economy was eventually going to go down to a more average level, it was only a matter of time, it was unironically a bubble. The towers did nothing, trump did nothing, Putin does nothing(to the world), N.Korea does nothing.Whatever bad thing is going to happen the next 50 years, it would happen regardless of single events or people.Did you know there was a time where people only were able to eat meat once per week? And now people complain if they can't have steak every single day, it's silly how spoiled we became.
>>291481146
>>291482150You're a retard in the exact opposite way. That's the worst kind of fatalism. The world and history operates on a sine curve but if you push a sine curve out it only snaps back and causes upheaval.
