People hating on the flashback arc are blinded by the slow weekly release.Looking back we had 1 volume worth of the action packed Irishima island chapters and 1 volume of the Kunishige Chiaki drama, it's not been that many chapters (and both volumes are crazy good and quite different in tone, as Hokazono loves to do to keep things fresh).Current chapters are probably vol 15 material and will cover the forging of the blades and the breakout of the war, another step towards the inexorable climax of the war, Akemura's final solution and the bearers vs magatsumi fight (and Chihiro's birth somewhere in between). The tone will probably also switch up to become more fast paced as to mirror the impredictable and ruthless nature of war.

Did majority of series being gag or romcom hurt the magazine? I'm biased towards battle shonen so I'd like to think so, but objectively, even leaving Roboco's continued existence aside, the Japanese can't seem to get enough of Hertz. Blue Box hung in there for a good while too.

There's also the fact that most serialized GFC winners get axed. I think Beelzebub has to be the only exception. Shindou also won GFC but he didn't serialize the winner and instead did Ruri Dragon after the one-shot blew up.
