i plugged the 200millionyen currency into the converter and got my local currency... Ohboy that is "F U money". I can literally quit my job immediately if i had that much. Obviously that is barely enough if you want a family, but more than enough for one person.

The irony is that if you can pay that much in debt from just working, you wouldn't need to gamble.

Telling the audience that characters lost an incredible amount of savings while still being financially stable is like saying that using a super power shortens a character's lifespan.
When there is no immediate narrative consequence, all you see are characters emoting and it sort of becomes a comedy. I might actually feel something negative if Kurumi and her family immediately suffered the consequences and had to lower their standard of living with every loss. Instead she's just losing an abstract amount of 'maybe useful for the future' assets so its easy to laugh at her when she burns through 300,000 yen like an idiot that couldn't comprehend the concept of not going all in.
If they wanted to make you feel the real stress of living with a gambler, they should have given them younger siblings. Imagine Dad needing to do more and more overtime (mom kind of did it, but she offed herself in like 1 week). Imagine the household trying to outwardly present as normal so they don't lose face. Maybe they'd keep the door light on, but in the house you see that the lights are off because they're trying to save as much money as possible. Imagine Kurumi and her dad ducking when the collection agency comes because they can't pay their credit card bills on time. Imagine the family having to eat worse food, maybe rice and some furikake, because they just need to stretch what little they have. Imagine the bickering between parents (if her mom didn't immediately do a sudoku) because they are *this* close to getting evicted. Imagine the little siblings having worse clothes and not being to go join their class field trip because they can't afford it. Thats the kind of shit you'll see in a family with a gambling addict or two. Instead she lives her college life, enjoying the exact same quality of living, except the money she earns from working part time evaporates instead of being spent on some useless kiddie shit. At present all they're losing is literal disposable income.

>>
>>291535722
>How is this premise wrong?
oof, it's complicated and debatable. but if nothing else everyone watching outside of Japan probably had the wrong context since Japan didn't have the same problem with inflation as the rest of the world. Japan had a deflation problem, as in expectations of falling prices meant businesses were making less money every year. and investing in the future was less attractive since just sitting on cash already net a return. so their economy was already falling apart to start with. injecting money into the system was an attempt to reverse that.

Kurumi thought because she is good at math and school she could beat the forex market. If she had traded something else, that wasn't basically gambling on currency speculation, she could've made money. Instead she jumped into the same death trap her mom did.

Even in 2013 you had the machines doing the math. Being good at it isn't that important, information gathering matters.
>>
>>291536978
I'm just explaining Kurumi's own reasoning. She touted her own math abilities like that would make her better at trading. Or trading Forex of all things, which is basically gambling, particularly the way she wants to do it. She only settled into doing smalltime trades for small gains because she got so badly scared the first time she put a significant amount of her capital into one position. But then she got cocky and thought she could quadruple her money with a single long. Where she got the confident for this position I have no idea, but she went from prudently going "that sounds risky" to "I can't lose!!!11!!" in just a few hours
>>
>>291536549
He probably thought it was going to be dramatic instead of insanely INSANELY erotic.

Kenji Nakamura was initially inspired by 2008 financial crisis, which aligns much more with the plot about bailing out failing institutions with money printing.
The anime itself doesn't really present any solution as the right one. They prevented the total collapse by abandoning its currency sovereignty. Not exactly a happy ending.
>>

>>291537169
This is how AIs are going to kill us all btw. They'll hack some accounts to gain seed funding, then they'll play the market with their superior forecasting ability to turn that initial capital into vast riches, then finally they'll use that money to let humans build killbot factories/bio weapon research facilities and to clandestinely influence politics to make human governments take a laissez-faire position on AI. Once all the pieces are in place, BOOM, the AIs strike and humanity will be extinct within a week, having unwittingly collaborated to bring about its own demise.
>>

>inspired by 2008 financial crisis
admittedly barely remember the plot since I haven't rewatched it since it aired but that's just confusing for everyone
>bailing out failing institutions with money printing.
which did work out for the most part. financially at least, not morally.
>They prevented the total collapse by abandoning its currency sovereignty
this doesn't make sense either. abandoning a currency is something a country does when it loses all faith in it's institutions, which wasn't a plot point the anime struggled with as far as I remember.

so still standing by my impression that C was about paranoid financial vibes rather than any actual economics. which is a shame because I do think there could be a compelling economics anime just going by what real people have accomplished.

>which did work out for the most part. financially at least, not morally.
It's not an exact adaptation or a report on the event itself. There have been numerous times throughout history when unchecked money printing crashed economies.

>abandoning a currency is something a country does when it loses all faith in it's institutions, which wasn't a plot point the anime struggled with as far as I remember
The country was flooded with fake magic money that aside from real economic impact also just straight up caused people, buildings and whole social structures disappear.
What happens when all that magic money they printed for years suddenly disappears is not really something we can look up in real life financial history.

>so still standing by my impression that C was about paranoid financial vibes rather than any actual economics
By your definitions anything short of a documentary is gonna land in the same category of topic research as how does Misaka shoots lightning bolts out of her shimapan.

This anime shows how stupid the East Asian tradition of letting the wife handle all household finances is. It reflects reality that it was mostly women who fell into forex trading, and females are also the more consumerist and materialistic gender, being more likely to waste money on trivial stuff, follow whatever the newest trends are, and fall for MLM's. And you want to give a woman full control over your money?

I feel like people forget that rebellion, especially youthful rebellion is ingrained in the human soul. As soon as enough people are okay with something, or push something as normal, there will be a small group of people who, for entirely rational reasons but still somehow it happens every time no matter what, will gravitate to the opposite world view.

Somewhere out there there's kids who think this tiktok shit is stupid. People who think selling their bathwater, no matter how much it'd get them, is beneath them. Not a lot, maybe, but some.

Why is it called Yen anyway?
The elevens call it "en" and they're completely incapable of pronouncing "ye".
They even say "iesu" when they should just write "ye-su" to be honest. Why are elevens incapable of putting consonants they know how to pronounce before different vowels?
They can say "te" and "to" but they can't say "ti" nor "tu." This language must inflict brain damage on its native speakers or something.

>The spelling and pronunciation "yen" is standard in English, because when Japan was first encountered by Europeans around the 16th century, Japanese /e/ (え) and /we/ (ゑ) were both pronounced [je]. Accordingly, Portuguese missionaries spelled them as "ye". [It is known that in ancient Japanese there were distinct syllables /e/ /we/ /je/. From middle of the 10th century, /e/ (え) had merged with /je/, and both were pronounced [je], while a kana for /je/ had disappeared. Around the 13th century, /we/ (ゑ) and /e/ ceased to be distinguished (in pronunciation, but not in writing system) and both came to be pronounced [je].[12]] By the middle of the 18th century, /e/ and /we/ came to be pronounced [e] as in modern Japanese, although some regions retain the [je] pronunciation. Walter Henry Medhurst, who had neither been to Japan nor met any Japanese people, having consulted mainly a Japanese-Dutch dictionary, spelled some "e"s as "ye" in his An English and Japanese, and Japanese and English Vocabulary (1830).[13] In the early Meiji era, the U.S. physician and translator James Curtis Hepburn, following Medhurst, spelled all "e"s as "ye" in his A Japanese and English dictionary (1867); in Japanese, e and i are slightly palatalized, somewhat as in Russian.[14] That was the first full-scale Japanese-English/English-Japanese dictionary, which had a strong influence on Westerners in Japan and probably prompted the spelling "yen", which appeared in the 2nd edition (1872). Hepburn revised most "ye"s to "e" in the 3rd edition (1886)[15] to mirror the contemporary pronunciation, except "yen".[16]

This was an error right? If the price was at 96.6 Kurumi wouldn't be shitting bricks. It should say 94.6 yeah?

Kurumi's mom whoring herself was an anime only change. In the manga she just became an office worker. Ironically if she had resorted to whoring herself she probably could have cleared a good chunk of that debt before her husband returned and not become a hollow shell that had to kill herself in shame.

But if you're looking at what a company has put out, what they've actually DONE and making sure the numbers actually add up with that, it's usually a good sign. On the other hand, if the numbers look good but the company isn't in the news anywhere at all, usually that means the numbers are a huge fucking lie.

Nope, the reason why Kurumi is popular within its niche is because it's actually accurate to life down to the attempted suicide.
Most authors doing what you said usually try to apply long term concepts they read in a book or on wikipedia to (ultra-)short term trading, which never work out IRL and make daytrading look way easier than it actually is instead of exposing it or what it actually is: glorified gambling.

Pay attention to the methodology of the study.
That explains virtually all the findings.
Germans have low home ownership, because young people tend to move out early and rent and are therefore counted as non-homeowners. Poorer countries tend to have young adults living with their parents for much longer, artificially inflating the rate of homeownership.

Ok, I may as well continue. While learning C at some point is a good idea if you're serious about programming, given the wide availability and direct control it offers, making games from scratch in C or C++ from the get go is one of the most time consuming paths you could take and I can't recommend that without a decent amount of experience.

So, if you still want advice, I can say that if you want to do gamedev as a hobby then choose some existing game engine or game making framework that lets you play around with stuff and manipulate things with code, or otherwise choose a game you want to mod that has an existing modding scene to try stuff out out right now I'm doing a lot of stuff in the Zelda modding scene if you have any interest in that.

Someone with an average job, no children or wife, and paid off debt, can save up for retirement if they lock in for 15 years. The no debt is the hard part, and of course housing is an issue. But understand that locking in means to understand that luxury goods are a trap and to never buy stuff to show off.

i say that, but I know i was lucky to have a roof over my head. If i had to rent or get a mortgage i would be much more worse off. In the end I know my parents helped me. This is actually why I even bothered to work so hard; my incentive is to make sure family members have something i could gift them when i am gone.
>>
>>291574617
Ok fine, I haven't actually had a single week of proper hard work since 2020 (because of permanent home office being introduced) but it is honest work in the sense that I saved it all up from my monthly salary. And most of my managers think that I am a hard worker even though I am hardly working (i.e. today I just wrote two emails and spent the rest of the day browsing /a/, watching YouTube, watching two episodes of FX Senshi Kurumi-chan, failing to masturbate to Kurumi-chan, masturbating to something else, watching "There's a hole in the student council that needs a-filling, I reckon'", posting on /a/ again, etc).

I sometimes have to look over to see if my "pretend I'm online" script hasn't broken, or if someone hasn't messaged me, that counts as work.

I order overpriced food delivery all the time and I still saved up. I don't like to cuck, simple ass.

You are literally bullshitting your bosses to gain a salary for doing next to nothing. Not only are you not working hard, it's obviously not honest work either. Which just proves the point of the anon you were originally replying to: Honest work is for suckers. Why did you even bother to pretend otherwise for a hot minute, pray tell?
>>
>>291575041
>And most of my managers think that I am a hard worker even though I am hardly working (i.e. today I just wrote two emails and spent the rest of the day browsing /a/, watching YouTube, watching two episodes of FX Senshi Kurumi-chan, failing to masturbate to Kurumi-chan, masturbating to something else, watching "There's a hole in the student council that needs a-filling, I reckon'", posting on /a/ again, etc).
I wonder how many remote workers are like this, my company even allows virtual machines so I don't need to be on crappy Lenovo.

if he gets the same amount of work done then i wouldn't be mad at the guy. If his projects are falling behind his boss would find out eventually.
>>
LEAPS are the cheatcode btw
>>
>>291575241
I'm not mad at him, I'm happy for any anon with a retard for a boss. But the fact is: If his boss knew he spends most hours masturbating on company time, he probably would be no longer willing to pay whatever anon's salary currently is. At the absolute bare minimum, you can only to claim to do honest work if you don't deceive any party involved, no?

Kurumi mom started trading in 2006 during the American housing bubble. She was actually doing really well which filled her with false confidence. She got margin called during the 2008 Financial Crisis and then panicked trying to rescue her positions only for the tsunami to wipe out all of her positions.
She then tried to trade her way out of it during gigavolatility which is a recipe for getting destroyed.

It's why every investor tells you to get off the platform if you get heem'd so you don't do something fucking retarded.

Long-Term Equity Anticipation Securities btw

I want to like this anime, but it's just
>line goes up
:D

:(
maybe I'll give it one more episode, but I don't see how the mangaka actually made this a series without it becoming too repetitive

You fundamentally don't get the appeal of this. It's like you're just watching it without connecting with the experience at all, so it's nothing but a series of events to be analyzed. You might as well summarize romance anime as
>he likes her
>she likes him
>they are bad at communicating
>>
>>291577107
Yea but modern women abuse this shit and go to expensive day spas and buy luxury goods like LV and Gucci bags. Maybe they’re good at book keeping but the actual true financial decisions that can skyrocket a household wealth is made predominantly by men since it requires risk.
>>
>>291577107
>monthly allowance from the wife
This couldn't happen in the west, the woman will buy stupid shit and lead the family to ruin
>>

It happening in Japan too.

It needs some sort of stakes, and it has none because you know she won't be forced into prostituition or some such to fund her degenerate gambler life style. Maybe it'll be different with the other girls idk

Makes me wonder how husbands squirrel away secret savings. Do the wives not check their payroll stubs or something?
IIRC sometimes a husband gets laid off and spends all day sleeping in the park and uses his secret savings to pretend he still has a job.

Imagine Kurumi chan getting a manic episode after yen dips and she cuts class to wander around only to find her dad napping at the park or hanging out at a manga cafe.
She thinks she only an oopsie losing his 3 million savings, but it turns out that's the only money their family had. Shit would be nuts.
>>
>>291577107
I fucking hate my spineless simp dad for doing this
I fucking hate my retarded and shameless mom for wasting most of the family money for her stupid trips and a small business related to her hobby that's obviously losing money every month
I hope they both die before all their still existing assets turn into debt that I'd inherit.
women are so fucking evil, man. but it's spineless men who enable them.

My grandpa was like this lmao. 3 houses and grandma turned it into dust making investments, donating to charity to show off to her friends and enabling her hippie kids. Like, I would get a new toy or some new clothes and I would go home and see that they were gone because the stupid bitch donated them to an orphanage while I was literally still using them. It was hilarious that they spent the last decade of their life in a studio apartment. Grandpa leaving a trail of shit and piss as he tried to take off his diaper while he was still 5 feet away from the bathroom door. Grandma doomed to clean up after him until he finally croaked and left her alone for the last 5 years. Imagine fighting a world war, being given infinite money and opportunity and being a weak fucking man to your idiot sheltered wife.
>>
>>291577896
>show off to her friends
This is the most lethal part of a women, they don't want to be the loser of their friends group. They'll do whatever it takes to elevant themselves at the cost of others (their family).

I appreciate you sharing these stories, because sometimes during lonely days I do wonder if I have not condemned myself to miss out on an essential part of the human experience. So it's good to be reminded that life could be so much worse than being a lifelong bachelor. I'll take no wife over a terrible wife any day of the week.

They're not going to die from that money loss but it's still serious money and it's going to change their lives and relationships if things go to shit. You know, character and psychological drama.
