I didn't even notice it, since the scene and the conversation made it clear that it was already implied, to the point that everyone understood that the "prize" was Akane. It didn't even seem like it was actually censored, since it doesn't seem to have changed the scene or the characters' reactions.

By the way, the names of the next anime episodes have already been released:

Episode #27 (Happy to Cologne) October 17
Episode #28 (The Way of Tea) October 24
Episode #29 (The Way the Cookie Crumbles) October 31
Episode #30 (I Ate the Whole Thing) November 7

Amazon Love Pills, the Tea Ceremony, and the Cookies arc. And I admit I'm surprised that the cookie arc will have two episodes, but it's four chapters and they probably want Kodachi to appear more, since she doesn't appear much in the manga, right?

And I'm curious and thinking about the last episodes of this season, will there really be more arcs? I'm wondering if this season will only have 11 episodes and the fourth season will have 13 episodes, something like that happening.

Anime:

Manga:

The Netflix subs translate this one as "Don't forget. I'm the prize for winning this fight…", reverting the entire censorship. Odd.

>They’re more worried about potentially objectifying the cis women while still leaving female Ranma as the most fetishized member of the cast who gets the most fanservice
I said this in the other thread but this really feels out of touch with the wokefag crowd. Standard feminism that centers cis women isn’t even considered all that progressive anymore in current year and is derisively referred to as “white women’s feminism.” Wokefags would take more offense at and find more problematic female Ranma’s objectification because they’ll think it’s pandering to the chasers or something.

Is this an example of Japan’s progressive movement being 10 years behind the West’s I keep always hearing about?

Perhaps, or it's simply disregarding progressivism as a factor in the decision-making.

I always thought if the whole Tsubasa arc was cut, it would be for time, not for content. It was clear from S1 that they tried to preserve major plot points intact as much as possible (they went easier on lines that actually mattered to the plot).

You could legitimately argue the Tsubasa arc isn't very important to the plot of the long run, but it's one of Ukyo's few focus arcs so that might have something to do with it.

>>
>>291532060
>can't even adapt these chapters in the right order either
But WHY?
>>
>>291536776
>I like how Rumiko is just taking the piss out of battle shonen tropes here
Ranma itself was basically just a parody of popular martial arts centric shonen manga at the time like Hokuto Ken and Dragonball. It also deconstructs the entire concept of gender.

She also takes the piss out of and deconstructs the harem genre(before it was even created yet) with Urusei Yatsura, and destined lovers/reincarnation tropes with Inuyasha. It’s a large part of the charm of her series because she almost never plays tropes straight and pokes fun at the common anime tropes at the time by showing through her works just how ridiculous and stupid said tropes are.
>>
>>291543767
For some reason Ranma anime is allergic to the manga order.
>>
>>291543818
Nah. There are only 2 genders. Just because Ranma can magically switch doesn't change that
>>
>>291544228
Well at the very least Ranma as a series is deconstructing gender ROLES if not gender itself.
>>
>>291544249
That's apt. Genma was supposed to raise "a man among men" perfect son on pain of death, and that got fucked three ways over. Nodoka might blow off the evergrowing hair and the cat fear, but a son that's also a daughter? That's not going to carry water.
>>
>>291544619
Maybe the issue is that Nodoka is just as insane as Genma.
>>
>>291545227
I have a pet theory about that, even if none of it is verifiable.

Nodoka came from a higher status family than Genma, who in all likelihood is from commoner stock. She fell for him, to the shame of her house, and married him against her family's wishes. Sounds like social suicide, but Genma is besties with Soun, who definitely comes from higher status than Genma given that property his dojo is on must be ancestral to the Tendo. Marrying Ranma from the lowly Saotome to a Tendo would elevate Ranma, and by virtue the Saotomes, above commoner status and back into the upper class, which means Nodoka's family would have to recognize that her marriage wasn't a mark of shame after all. It's just the sort of tiresome, ex-samurai hierarchical tradition-mongering Rumiko lampoons on. So Nodoka is nuts by modern standards, but would have been right at home in Tokugawa times.

>>
>>291547143
Kawaikunee
>>
>>291547197
>Ranma literally becomes a female
And the fact that he DOES become a literal female is an unrealistic troon fantasy because since he’s already gone through puberty and got hulked up on testosterone, that test should still be effecting him and leaving masculinizing effects on his face so that he wouldn’t be able to pass so well in the face even if he gains the body of an actual female. Testosterone is one hell of a hormone and it’s effects can’t be so easily reversed, that’s why troons always say that the younger you transition the better and why they’re always advocating for child transition and puberty blockers, they know even a little bit of T guarantees you to a life sentence of an unpassable hon.
>inb4 “b-b-b-but all the other cursed characters turn into their perfect animal equivalent!”
Transforming from human into animal biology is neater and wouldn’t involve the permanent masculinizing effects testosterone leaves on the body, humans are already a type of mammal and mammal biology doesn’t involve different hormones between the species the same way there is between the two sexes.

Also:

>doesn’t pretend to be mentally ill
The Jusenkyo curse is already meant to be an allegory for each character’s hidden repressed desires/self, that’s why their transformations fit so perfectly. Ryoga is perverted like a pig, Genma is lazy freeloading bum line a panda, Shampoo is cunning like a cat, Mousse is a crazy quack, and Ranma is actually really feminine instead of masculine and has a secret desires to be a woman and troon out that “he” was repressing all along.

>>inb4 “b-b-b-but all the other cursed characters turn into their perfect animal equivalent!”
You can inject all the allegories that you want and talk about testosterone but Rumiko has brushed off details about Ranma-chan's biology. The magic spring curse is simply something undesirable by the vast majority of the cast. Ranma's female body is weaker and, even if he's able to circumvent its shortcomings, mostly uses it to trick others or for minor things like feeling satiated after eating a meal. Even if Ranma turns literally into a female, something trannies will never achieve, the character being good representation for their ilk is an unrealistic troon fantasy. I agree with that at least but only because Ranma wants to get rid of the curse and not because he (accidentally) became something they will never be.

Literally *drumroll*
>>
>>291531467
One thing I've noticed is that both of the anime adaptations try to present the chestnuts technique as an actual named martial arts move, while in the manga it's just a form of training Ranma went through to increase the speed of his punches. Which makes a lot more sense.
>>
>>291570723
Yeah, it's weird. The OG anime had the conclusion to the first Mousse battle be Ranma "remembering" he could use this "move" too.
>>
>>291570723
It's so they can list it as a move in guidebooks and video games.
>>
>>291570723
>>291571215
Is the actual move name itself used again in the manga?
>>

I don't think it is.

I'm really worried about the Tsubasa arc now.
>>
>>291576738
At the very least they can’t walk back from giving Akane that insanely OOC anime original pro-LGBT line last season. She’s gonna look like an inconsistent schizo if one minute she’s claiming that gender doesn’t matter and love is love and then the next trying to conversion therapy Tsubasa out of being a lesbian.
>>
>>291576843
Which line was that?
>>
>>291557328
What did the old anime have here?
>>
>>291557328
Interestingly, the remake seems to have referenced the old anime script when doing this scene.
In the old anime, that first scene doesn't have the manga dialogue at all, but instead replaces it with:

>Cologne: Suman no, sukoshi no shinbou ja. Yoi ka futaridomo. Kono shoubu ni katta mono ga Tendou Akane to kousai dekiru. Sunawachi Ryouga ga kateba Tendou Akane to kousai shi, mukodono wa Shampoo to kekkon suru koto ni naru. Banji kaiketsu medetashi medetashi to iu wake ja.
>Akane: Ano ne, obaasan...

Then as mentioned, the remake includes but censors the manga lines, but also adds more to it, clearly based on the old anime line:
>Cologne: Houbi ga atta hou ga hariai ga deru to omotte na.
>Akane: HOUBI?!
>Cologne: Kono shoubu katta hou ga Tendou Akane to kousai dekiru. Ryouga ga kateba Tendou Akane to kousai shi, mukodono wa Shampoo to kekkon dekiru to iu wake ja. Ka ka ka ka ka!
>Akane: Sonna katte na koto iwarete mo komarimasu!

For the second line, it does keep the "shouhin/prize" word, but changes the line slightly from the manga line, and the new line in the remake seems to take from this changed anime line.

Manga:
>Akane: Kateru noo?
>Ranma: ...nan da you, sono iikata.
>Akane: Wasurenaide yo, atashi ga shouhin na n dakara.

OG anime:
>Akane: Ranma... kateru no?
>Ranma: Naanii?!
>Akane: Wasurenaide yo ne ichiou atashi ga shouhin tte kotonnatchatte ru n dakara

Remake:
>Akane: Kateru noo?
>Ranma: ...nan da you, sono iikata.
>Akane: Wasurenaide yo ichiou kono shoubu atashi ga kakatte ru koto ni natchatte ru n dakara.

By the way, these three issues were all part of the special summer vacation premiere of three new series - Makoto-chan in issue 37, Tearful Soldier in issue 38 and Yaiba in issue 39.
Makoto-chan was technically not a new series, but the revival of an old one that had ended in 1981, and was now starting back up after a couple one-shots earlier this year.

>>291578291
>So is there any real reason to watch the remake over the original?
No, just read the manga. The remake is censored slop and took the ecchi out of an ecchi series.
>>
>>291588083
It was never an ecchi series, degenerate
>>
>>291588118
That's not what the first chapter indicates.
>>
>>291588118
>It was never an ecchi series
When Ranma was first brought to America in the 90’s the manga was given the rating of 16+ when most manga was only 13+. They also never dared to air the anime on TV, even in a censored form, even though Ranma was part of the millennial wave anime boom alongside series such as Sailor Moon, Pokémon, DBZ, and CCS. Even fucking Tenchi Muyu another harem anime eventually aired on Toonami, albeit in a censored form, but if they were willing to air Tenchi but wouldn’t even touch Ranma what does that tell you? Obviously that Ranma was too downright raunchy to even try and censor it.
>>
>>291588360
>caring what Purityrannical America thinks
Still not ecchi
>>
>>291588406
Stop trying to rewrite history zoom-zoom, I was there, Ranma was always considered an ecchi series and was actually one of the first purveyors of the entire ecchi genre. I remember trying to sneak in the manga volumes when I was around like 9-10 because my mom absolutely forbid me to read or watch Ranma until I was at least 13 because all the nudity and underwear obsessed Happosai read to her as softcore porn.

>Purityrannical America
Can’t blame it on typical burger puritinism when Toonami was even willing to air fucking Tenchi Muyo but wouldn’t touch Ranma. Why would they be willing to air Tenchi, another harem anime that is the complete opposite of American Puritanical values yet even a censored version of Ranma was a step too far? C’mon put your thinking cap on, I know you can do it lil zoomie!
>>
>>291588487
Never published as an ecchi, never classified as one in rental stores, so not an ecchi. You deceived yourself.
>>
>>291588712
>never classified as one in rental stores
The 16+ rating when nearly all other manga would get 13+ is the informal ecchi classification retard.

>You deceived yourself.
Can you explain why no American Broadcast Network would touch Ranma when even fellow harem anime Tenchi Muyo eventually aired on Toonami?
>>
>>291588793
>informal
Which means made up. Not a true classification, not an ecchi, didn't even need ID for it.
>Can you explain why no American Broadcast Network would touch Ranma
Viz didn't push for it at the time Sailor Moon, DBZ, et al were being licensed to the newborn Toonami for broadcast. There's no conspiracy here.
>>
>>291588914
>Viz didn't push for it at the time Sailor Moon, DBZ, et al were being licensed to the newborn Toonami for broadcast. There's no conspiracy here.
So why was Tenchi Muyo pushed to air despite being relatively more niche than Ranma?
>>
>>291588914
>didn't even need ID for it.
No ecchi requires an ID check, it’s not LITERAL porn. All ecchi means is that fanservice is taken up a notch, but there’s still no actual sex shown, which is what requires an ID.
>>
>>291578291
The animation gets better instead of worse.
No plowing through 20 minutes of filler for every 10 minutes of actual adaptation.
>>
>>291588938
Pioneer Entertainment didn't have Shogakukan to answer to for distro rights, they had direct negotiation authority until they sold it over to Funimation.
>>
>>291576174
What's "transphobic" about the arc? Akane and Ranma both assume Tsubasa is a cisgender (gay) girl.
>>
>>291584972
>they are looks matched
???
>>
>>291554112
I don't remember that one, but if they wanted to censor rapeyness they'd have cut out the cookie arc.
>>
>>291541947
What did he do?
>>
>>291589506
Made like a black father and walked out on his kids “to get some milk.” Also blatantly groomed Rin despite Rumiko confirming he was supposed to serve as her foster father.

>>291588487
No offense to your mom, anon, but ignorants believing something doesn't make it true.
That's like saying Ranma is a transphobic pedophilic series because tiktokers and blueskyers consider it to be one (I assume) and forbid each other to read it.
>>
>>291590225
>Ranma is a transphobic pedophilic series
That's true thoughbeit.

You assumed wrong, all the wokies love and adore Ranma and consider it good trans representation and all the Ranma fans I see on Twitter have pronouns in their bio.

>>291590248
>Ranma
>transphobic
If Ranma were truly transphobic Rumiko would’ve written it like J.K. Rowling wrote her new anti-trans book series, with none of the troons, even the curse-afflicted ones being able to pass and Ranma being more like Ataru as a protagonist and using his troon curse opportunistically to perv on and assault women.
>>
>>291590325
>shitposting
It sexualizes minors. How is it not pedophilic?
>>
>>291530461
That's a good cover
>>
>>291590366
>using his troon curse opportunistically to perv on and assault women.
No instead he uses it to trick and “trap” straight men instead, which is another classic transphobic trope that’s responsible for trannies disproportionate murder rates.
>>
>>291588938
>>291589265
The reason why Tenchi was allowed to air in a censored form but not Ranma was because Tenchi wasn’t an inherently queer series the same way Ranma is/was. Remember this was back in the 90’s and early 00’s, a time when the Moral Majority Christian Evangelicals ruled the political landscape of the country, even minor LGBT elements in kids anime such as Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura was being actively censored out before they were allowed to air on TV. How on earth were localizers gonna be able to censor Ranma when the tranny coded gender bending gimmick was the whole point of the show?

It’s the same reason why the final season of Sailor Moon, Sailor Stars was also left in Japan and never got a proper dub till the 2010s. That season was also centered around a magically switching gender-bending gimmick, and switching between the genders is just harder to censor all around compared to other forms of LGBT content or even just pervy content like in Tenchi.
>>
>>291590927
>Cardcaptor Sakura was being actively censored
But Syaoran was left in? Talk about missing the forest for the trees.

>But Syaoran was left in? Talk about missing the forest for the trees.
His gay crush on Yukito was completely censored though, what’s wrong with leaving Syaoran in (they even tried to frame him as the main character in the Kids WB version) so long as you censor his bisexuality? What’s inherently inappropriate about his character?

How is Syaoran pedobait exactly? By that logic the entire series is pedobait because all the main characters are 10 year old kids.

If we assume the Jusenkyo curse is meant to serve as an allegory for a character’s personality, has /a/ or the Ranma fandom in general ever done games where you guess which curse the uncursed characters in the series would gain if they ever fell into any of the Jusenkyo springs? Here are my theories:

>Akane: Curse of Drowned Boy, to symbolize how manly she is and also to serve as the inverse of Ranma
>Ukyo: Also Curse of Drowned Boy
>Kuno: Curse of Drowned Lion (cause lions are known for having harems) or Curse of Drowned Donkey (because he’s always making an ass out of himself), or even Curse of Drowned Monkey (Because he’s literally nicknamed “The Iron Butt Monkey”)
>Kodachi: Like Mousse, Curse of Drowned Duck, cause she’s also quite crazy, but maybe instead of an actual duck she’d turn into the female variant of a swan to also represent her agile gymnastic abilities?
>Happosai: Like Ryoga Curse of Drowned Pig , because he’s a perverted lech.
>Nabiki: Curse of Drowned Jew
