It doesn't quite convey how much depth the character work and story will later have, though it's a cool experience for those who do get hooked early on. It starts out simple and then readers get that feeling of "holy fuck, there's so much more than I expected!".It's also why I think the anime adaption missed an opportunity there. With a bit of Kui's supervision, they could have ironed out some of the rough patches to bring the beginning more in line with how characters act later on. E.g. Rewriting the scene of Marcille thinking about what she wants to order at the tavern and maybe a slightly better setup of why Namari left without even checking in with Laios. It's a small issue, all things considered, but early impressions may make or break a series. Look at Frieren, which managed to profit from the groundwork of the strong initial few chapters, even if the actual manga then is mostly battle shounen and SoL antics.
