>>
most japanese people think you're an elderly old fart by 30
>>
>>291559476
I am him but 36 years old.
>>
>>291559476
If you're 25 and over and you say this then it really is over.

Get moving, time slows down for no one.

If you're a loser at 22 it's over. People don't change.

only if you are a zoomer druggie who took so much that your skin and organs rapidly aged.
many "clean-living" otaku still look like teens in their 30s, for better or worse.

it's a cultural thing
you wouldn't understand
>>
I was a lot like satou when I was around his age. I don’t have anxiety anymore because I stopped giving a fuck what people think of me and just accepted that I’ll be a loser for the rest of my life. If I ever have sex it will likely be with a woman prostitute or a female robo fuck buddy.

It's pretty common for a lot of kids to forget that life doesn't end immediately after high school / college.
>>
>>291559572
Most people in general think that.
It's always "almost 30" or "pushing 30" or "already 30" or "wow, I thought you were younger"
>>
>>291559476
Not really. When you're totally isolated at an age where you're comparing yourself to everyone around you and the people you went to school with it can be hard to find a way out of the abyss since the only person you have is yourself who's constantly putting you down. I was 22 when I started getting my shit together after being a neet since I graduated highschool.

He wasn't wrong. This "I'm not old" thing is a cope.
>>
>>291559476
For most of human history a 22 year old was a grown ass adult with a family and responsibilities
>>
>>291563736
This isn't most of human history. This is Reiwa.
In Reiwa 35 year old men will be allowed to attend middle school again to court and groom their prime tween-aged wives.
>>
I remember watching this anime for the first time at 14 years old and thinking it was a colossal failure for a grown adult like Satou to be such a failure. Now I'm a decade older than he is and somehow managed to achieve even less
>>
>>291563736
For most of human history, 22 year olds were afforded opportunities for adult development instead of being forced to retreat into their parent's home by freefalling wages, a hostile job market and skyrocketing rent and housing prices
Not to mention how social media and dating apps paradoxically made finding a romantic partner and friends harder than ever
>>
>>291559572
>>291560316
The issue is that by 30 you are old and you should have things going for you beyond something a teenager could achieve and this was understood in the past and we all have a sense that we are failures for not achieving this but because of just how fucked up things are, like >>291563967 points out, many men are essentially forced to be infantized either by lack of means or shrinking opportunity. Even those who would naturally be behind on becoming an adult no matter the time period are hampered by the many garments of the modern age as it is one more hurdle to overcome, artificially keeping them down. If I remember correctly, the Norse had a phrase for the time in a man's life where he is no longer young enough to do nothing but not yet old enough to be trusted to do anything, this has just been stretched out in the modern age. Now this all could be a loser's cope but the statistics replicated all around the world don't exactly support this excuse.
>>
>>291563923
I haven't watched it since I was around his age, and now I'm pushing 30, and I'm afraid to watch it again
>>
>>291565258
>>291563923
I'm also nearly thirty. If I don't kill myself and do some good I will consider it a victory.

I need to work, on improving myself but I accepted I will never achieve "success". A stereotypical family and house owning are well beyond me.

still life can be good if you take away the pressure of achieving impossible goals.
>>
>>291565453
well what are your possible goals
>>
>>291565487
1. becoming a woman
2. finding Jesus
>>
>>291559476
literally me
>>
>>291563736
The only time in recent-ish history this was true was like, post-WWII America. Even in like 17th-18th century America and England most people didn't get married until at least their mid 20s.
>>
>>291565487
Right now want to work in an oil rig, still figuring out the next steps to make that happen. Besides that getting control of my desires, and being a better follower of Jesus, that is the main one.
>>
>>291565660
Oh and completing my transition. But besides that, my goals aren't too unrealistic.

Less than a year till wizardry and I already feel like anything good wont happen across all facets of life.

Why is all discussion around this anime exceedingly cancerous 3DPD whinging and dick measuring?

>>291570754
Ironically a lot of otaku don't realize it but if they just lifted a few times week and ate decent food (avoided soda/sugary drinks). They'd probably be better off health wise than most of the population, the issue is the sedentary aspect, it's similar to your typical cubicle office drone but often longer throughout the day. If you can mitigate that, maybe stand every 30 minutes. That will be pretty good.
>>
>>291559476
If you're 22 and shut in neet loser, even with you're best efforts, you'll most likely only be a mob or a wagie cagie by 30. Which might not be the worst, but hey, that's definitely not what you thought a non loser life when you're 15. You just redefined the meaning of the term 'loser' in your head to protect your ego.
>>291570754
Otakus don't have 'normal eating habits' even if they don't drink or smoke out with friends.

People seem to miss that this show was about mental illness. His life isn't that bad. He got his own place. Someone sends him money. And he even got a girl knocking on his door. He literally started recovering the moment he got a traffic job.

It's a message to people in a performative society.

I was like this at 22 and I'm still like this now. The cheat code is to start NEETing really early. The earlier you start, the earlier you can go past the point of no return.
>>
>>291559572
it does if you don't already have things figured out
no one's going to hire you if you haven't worked a day in your life at 30
>>
>>291570875
the technology to make robot waifus is pretty close* but that same technology also makes humans obselete so I doubt we'll get any benefit from it

*so long as you don't mind shitty battery life and accept "pretty close" can still mean anything from 2 up to 50 years
>>
>>291570930
>the technology that makes women obsolete in the eyes of men also make men obsolete in the eyes of women and also makes all people obsolete in the eyes of the corporate machine
C'est la vie.
>>
>>291570913
I'm seeing this in my company right now. There's a 30 yo 'intern' my company hired and its clear he wants to make it big in an year or less and had lots of hopes and dreams. And its kind of sad, seeing him losing hope day by day. When he started he was asking us how long it'll take to become as skilled as me and make as much and now he's asking me how long will it take to be as skilled as some junior girl who graduated college at 21 an year ago.
>>
>>291570891
And he's not even a fucking virgin
>>
>>291570984
I mean good on him that he started now than never but I'm not sure if he'll last that long because he simply can't learn and adopt the same rate as young guy.
But at least he's not a khhv wizard like me.
>>
>>291570984
now imagine if on top of that he was also a complete loser with zero social experience who has trouble just being near people
your life is over if you don't have a "normal" life by 25
>>
>>291559476
i didnt knew they made an anime based on eyeballtank's life
>>
>>291571055
Kinda this, if your over 25 and not already at least employed/degree/have a gf. It's over.
>>
>>291571055
In his case, he graduated college, decided to take over his family business, realised it's not for him after almost a decade and decided to get in a completely different sector at 30.
I mean, his life isn't as bad as many people here, he's got a backup to fall back to if he's ever fired for underperformance.
>>
All of this is pointless, your job is going to be obsolete in 20 years tops anyway and you won't be able to afford retirement. The world you're trying to show off for no longer exists.

>>
No sympathy for code monkey niggers. They were the ones sneering at everyone and telling them to learn to code while lounging about at their work from home jobs (which they loved to remind everyone about)
>>
>>291571184
We're not being scathing braggarts. We're just saying the best course of action is to just accept you're what you're and get rid of the comparative mindset. Don't have a gf? Cool, be okay with being a wizard and if you somehow get a woman at 35, 40 or whenever, that's cool too. Don't have a job? Cool get in to a job that don't need much experience or get in that does require but don't compare yourself with people your age who started working earlier.
Once you're older, you become happier by giving less fucks, to start now than never, not by deluding zoomoids that 40 is still young and they'll be making it big with a hot young wife, a million dollars wealth and 7 figure income by that age even if their life is pretty shit now.
>>
>>291571353
What you said is a far cry from "your life is over if you don't do x by y age". No beef with your statement in particular, though, it's the correct mindset.
>>
>>291559476
If a homeless monk can be more happy than a 7 figure company owner, that tells you all you need to know. It is a mindset, you have to ask yourself.

I plan to do one of these jobs, probably soldier for the perks and stuff, but my wealthy country is also rapidly getting worse in all departments. Now in the good old days I could easily move to at least four rapidly developing countries that all wanted and often financed men like me moving to them, these countries for the most part are also getting rapidly worse. It's one of those things where I'll probably just suck it up and still join the workforce/military either here or there but I'm not exactly raring to go.

30 is still young, everyone is dying in their 90s now, so I'm just at 1/3 of my lifespan now.

So at least you have no debt, enjoy that.

I am 30 years old, personally I can't see myself having a gf because the single life is just much more cozy than having an annoying hag getting on my case over me enjoying anime/vidya, living with my parents and saving money is so much more easier than living alone, especially when I WFH so I can help with half the costs and the bills.
I feel like anons ignore that anime like this is built already on the social agreement among the nips that not having a wife/children is automatically seen as being a failure in Japan, the thought of anyone actively enjoying the single life and their hobbies peaceful is purely seen as immaturity rather than that man understanding that he is simply enjoying his life

I recently discovered that age doesn't really matter, it's just what is inside your head. If you feel like shit at any age, your life will be shit because you won't do anything to make it better.

Besides that you must realize that we are on a new world now, lot of people that you assimilated as successful will soon die from the covid vaccines effects, sooner or later their lives were shortened. So you have future in this dystopic world even if you are not in your 20s anymore.

To be fair, when everyone actually left him including his parents who stopped giving him allowances, he realized he had it good before and now actually hit rock bottom.

Interestingly enough being secretly a hikki or netcafe refugee seems to be prefered or seen as more dignified than literally surrendering and moving out of Tokyo for the countryside.
Atleast that way you can act as a temporarily embarrassed Japanese equivalent of a yuppie.

I get a feeling that AI is gonna break the education-job pipeline real bad.
>>
>>291580107
Imo for most office jobs you no longer need juniors or fresh grads. Just give AI to a mid-/senior-level and watch them churn out results.
>>
>>291580135
Then in 5–10 years we're gonna be asking where all the fucking seniors are.
>>
>>291580190
The current junior pipeline is already highly competitive so no, we won't be seeing a shortage any time soon.

It's because the anime is a strange mashup of the novel and manga, both of which were saying different things. Novel Sato is very much just a guy in a very deep self-inflicted depression, while the manga version clearly had severe mental issues and probably needs mental help.

The anime kind of tries to do both at once.

You know nothing about these people! For all you know the girl spent 36+ hours every week for the last 4 years either studying or working towards where she is, while almost strictly socializing with people in the same line of work, taking unpaid internships, driving thrue and fro in her dad's car etc. While the 30 year old was working at Mcdonalds to support his mentally unraveling mother for the last couple of years of her life.

depends on what you mean by writing. at the bare minimum I need to push out a paper or two per year but writing is the least effort, doing all the grunt work to get results worth publishing is. today I spent 14 hours at work finagling an automated pipeline I made for systematically testing different data and parameter configurations for my system so that I can get enough worthwhile data and finish a paper by friday

originally I made the thing as part of a research contract for a private company, but got their permission to reuse it for publishable results in a different application domain. that way I get something out there I can cite in grant applications and show other prospective clients.

but honestly getting to actually work on publishable stuff is rare treat, usually it's grant applications, project deliverables, working on demos in exist projects, working on tooling and equipment that needs to work for research to happen, administrative bs like procurement, tardwrangling engineers and students, going on business trips abroad to network and worm your way into project consortia, trying to pitch and sell your stuff to companies who might be interested in licensing or contracting, etc

my field is robotics broadly, specifically perception systems but I have to do many things including designing and building actual physical robots for internal lab use so that we have something that can actually demonstrate the perception and AI stuff in practical scenarios while meeting all our schizophrenic constraints

>I'm afraid to even meet new people because I know I'll just end up being a burden to them.
The most important thing you need to remember is to never let ANYONE know you have money. Financial freedom is yours if you invest it wisely for passive income like another anon said. You should also not feel guilty about doing what's best for yourself. Be wary of those who may be after your money, or if you feel that the money itself becomes a burden, you can choose to donate some amount.

Japan had a crisis a few years back where women consistently outcompeted men in academic exams to the point where they went out of their way to grade women lower so men wouldn't be left behind. Maybe. But it's difficult. The whole "conspiracy" thing in nhk is real. I remember one time, after embarrassing myself in real life, then immediately after that on a phone call, I got out of my car to go to the bathroom at a home depot and genuinely thought everyone was looking at me and conspiring against me. That walk to the bathroom was horrible. It was like everyone knew what had happened to me and they were all looking at me and talking about me to each other. It's more or less like that every time I go in public. If I'd done something shameful recently, everyone knew, and if I hadn't, everyone knew my past was littered with moments like that.

Not really. In Ancient Sparta you only became a real citizen at 30. In Athens, you became a citizen at 18, but you couldn't hold any political positions until you reached 30. In parts of the medieval Holy Roman Empire, you couldn't sign contracts or serve as a legal witness until you were 21. And so on.
The "you're a full adult at 18, can do everything, and have to move away and have a whole-ass career" concept is very new for most part, just like the idea that having six or seven children is normal. If you look at the medieval Europe, the average number of kids surviving to adulthood was two, often falling to one for the urban populations thanks to the poor general health in cities. It wasn't until the advent of the early modern era that this changed.

Well, the business I got into was air traffic control. Yeah, I'm lucky enough to have the correct autism for the job, but it's a good path for many underperforming intellects that go on this website, regardless of country poverty.

i'm 32 and keep getting laid off from engineering jobs and switching industries. feels like I made a mistake studying this shit that I barely tolerate. 3 years of experience, and I'm on my 3rd entry level role. All my coworkers are in their early to mid 20s.

People under 30 saying their life is over are basing it around the fact they know there is 0% chance they are going to have a "perfect life". People over 30 saying it mean more like there is 0% chance they will have a mediocre normal life. For most people between 25 and 30 your standards and expectations of yourself will lower in conjunction with you actually improving a lot to be fair.

Meanwhile, Tonegawa is eating Hyodo's crusty ass every day and constantly sweating bullets at the mere thought of upsetting him for swift punishments, all so he can earn money and rank which he will never use anyway in his ridiculously busy and cucked schedule.

Truly a role model for young men in an aging world.

Funnily enough, I ended up sorta like his buddy Yamazaki.
Graduated, ended up aimless and jobless until 33 when a family friend offered their daughter's hand in marriage who's 9 years younger.
Pops got me started working on his farm and I'm now 36 with 2 kids. We're all gonna make it eventually bros.

This speech only works in Japan where they have grown accustomed since centuries back to make their little "mental inner garden" bullshit whenever they need some mental stability while living in shitty conditions (which considering Sengoku period, Meiji era, WW2, 90's bubble economy crash, etc, shitty living has become the standard for them)

Any other hopeless romantics over 30 here that still think they're gonna find someone soon? I'm straight delusional.

God, man. You're giving me grad school PTSD flashbacks. So glad I ditched research for teaching. Now, I get to build curricula instead of new methods, have a shit ton more time off, and only make like 10% less than the bleeding edgers that have no life. Now, just doing a little research side project that's worth presenting at a conference every couple years gets an extra dick sucking.

before all the woke shit, businesses already passed away by forcing an extrovert only culture that filters out anyone who isn't part of the friend group hierarchy. it used to be more important to just get your job down even if you were a socially awkward tard.

I used to but my hope has really gotten crushed particularly bad in the past year or two,

Is this the new zoomer cope that they still have time and aren't constantly getting older? A 22 year old still has chances to change the trajectory of their lives, but using Satou as an example, the pattern of behaviors established will rapidly close off those avenues as you whittle away the little time you have. Remember, the core message of NHK isn't "work and you'll be happy", it's "your safety net won't last forever and you'll eventually have to get off your ass if you want to survive".
>>
>>291573868
>parents only support him out of familial obligation and and rapidly growing tired of his worthless ass
>friend is too good for you and has his own life to deal with
>mentally-ill younger girl is using you as an emotional crutch to inflate her own self-esteem
>"ex-girlfriend" is your highschool crush that threw you a pity fuck back in the day, heavily medicated now, and only shows back up to use you as an emotional tampon for her SSRI induced mania
Genuinely, Satou would have been better off without any of them aside from Yamazaki interacting with him, and even then he mostly just uses Yamazaki as a gateway to escapist fantasies like becoming a game developer.

kek this, I fully understand the phrase "deadbeat dad" nowadays as that's who I am minus the dad part.
I suppose I should be thankful that I didn't end up ruining myself further by having a kid and ruining them too

Same thing kinda happened to me unfortunately. I was also a big incel loser social anxiety on top of it. Office was 90% women. There was only one other dude there. Girls just dont like me in general. I could feel daggers staring at me, i could tell they didnt want me there. They had the guy train me. I guess the girls were all grossed out by me, i got that feeling. One day the dude didnt show up and they just had me sit in a corner cuz none of the girls wanted to train me. I just left during lunch and never came back

It's the natural cycle of civilizations. A country gets developed fast, enjoys a period of golden age, stagnates and slowly corrects back to more normal levels. Japan has just been about 10 years ahead. What's happening there right now will happen everywhere in the developed world in the very near future as the large generations from the cold war begin to retire and invert the population pyramid.
The difference in the moment is that Japan seems to have already recognized what's coming and focuses on maintaing stability rather than growth unlike the rest of the world which still operate through the endless growth at any cost view.
