I think it's funny to compare Kabru from this chapter to Kabru when he first appeared. I think initially, Kui planned on making Kabru's party play the role the Canaries are playing right now, but she really really fell in love with writing Kabru specifically, and they become too comedic and clearly good natured to be the twisted assassins she originally wanted them to be It really shows in that Kabru is the only one who stuck around in the narrative and got multiple chapters of focus, and delivered this impassioned and personal appeal to Laios that actually got through his autism and self-loathing
