That's because the Koharu and Mahiru episodes were the early ones, the ones that focused almost entirely on why Mahiru wasn't on good terms with her sister. Not to mention the skill gap kept them distant as well.

For that same reason the Koharu and Ako friendship felt more natural since their chemistry wasn't focused on being in the same class or auditions. That allowed them to do goofier sidequests like searching for treasure and rounding up M4 fans.
