I feel like the director was slacking here. Lilly was basically given zero indication of what she needed to do and had to improvise until the director was satisfied. There is room for improvisation, either intentional or if someone makes a mistake, but a Japanese TV drama using idols is the last place I would expect a large amount of improv. It's mostly probably an issue of time these days but when they used film (maybe they still sometimes use film, they do sometimes for movies still) they didn't have an infinite amount of film.
