Spoiler-free reviewAfter finishing Edgerunners 2, I was left with a complex mix of feelings. On the one hand, I thoroughly enjoyed the story of this installment and will rewatch it several times for that reason. On the other hand, as a lore enthusiast, the overly unrestrained artistic expression in Edgerunners 2 dealt an almost devastating blow to the established setting. Perhaps because there are too many characters and an overwhelming amount of information involved, the pacing of this season is extremely fast. Therefore, I do not recommend getting distracted while watching, as it is very easy to miss certain important plot points or details. However, despite the fast pacing, Studio Trigger handled it quite well, and it basically does not affect the viewing experience. In terms of character development, Edgerunners 2 indisputably surpasses its predecessor, having put considerable effort into depicting the characters and the relationships between them. You can feel the unique connections between each character, whether it be family, friendship, or uniquely ambiguous relationships. Every character has sufficient justification for their motives. Particularly on a second viewing, you will notice many small, noteworthy details, as well as many impressive frames in how character dialogue is composed. By the way, I highly recommend a second viewing of this anime. As I mentioned earlier, the pacing of this anime is very fast. During your first watch, you will miss many details, and these details will significantly impact your understanding of the subsequent plot. Seriously, I highly, highly, highly recommend a second watch.
>>291717496Having mentioned so many merits, here are the flaws that left me rather dissatisfied. Although the visuals remain top-tier and the tension is maxed out, Studio Trigger clearly let themselves go a bit too much this time. By the almost exaggerated performances in the later episodes, I completely couldn't recognize this as the Cyberpunk world. Honestly, as such a fanatic lore fan, after seeing such outrageous depictions, I even briefly considered relegating this work to non-canon status rather than a continuation of the realistic 2020 world-building. Moreover, the volume of this anime is visibly massive; even though the final episode added a few extra minutes of runtime, it was inevitable that some settings and visuals were rushed. This results in first-time viewers missing out on events and details they were supposed to know all over the place. Additionally, perhaps due to budget issues, a climactic moment at the end of the final episode was glossed over, leaving me confused for a few seconds before I realized what had happened. So, I categorize this under the flaws. Overall, my personal rating is an 8.6. The story is fantastic, the visuals are highly dynamic, and the composition has great depth. However, the overly unrestrained approach to the lore is a point deduction for me. To briefly summarize at the end: currently, the anime has very distinct characteristics. I highly recommend it to casual viewers as well as fans of the previous work. As for fans of the game, you will also be able to find familiar elements within the animation. But if you are a hardcore fan of the tabletop game's lore, I advise you to watch with caution.
D is literally me

>>291717526Slight spoilerish answers to popular questions. >Is there a romantic storyline between Talia and Roman?I can only say that if they were dating, it would just constitute puppy love, as both are kids—one is 15 and the other is 12. But unfortunately, this question doesn't even hold up in the anime because their relationship remains in an ambiguous state from beginning to end. At the very least, I don't think they've crossed that line. >Does it have ties to the game or Edgerunners 1?I believe the connection between Edgerunners 2 and Edgerunners 1 is stronger than its connection to the game. After all, the previous question already touched upon the ambiguity of the film's timeframe, but it definitively takes place after Edgerunners 1. Additionally, no familiar characters from the game appear in this anime, so if that's what you're coming for, you might be disappointed. >How is the music?Similarly, this installment of Edgerunners doesn't lose to its predecessor in emotional resonance. Especially with the enhancement of the music during certain climactic sequences, the score gave me full-body goosebumps. In short, the music is so good, even a devil may cry. >Is the song "A Rusty Dream" in the anime?Yes, and its role is somewhat similar to the famous "I Really Want to Stay at Your House" from the previous work. >How strong is D exactly? The power scaling community is about to experience a massive upheaval. I won't say much about the specifics; I'll leave the shock for you. >How strong is the emotional aftermath?Speaking from personal experience, the aftermath of a second watch is the strongest. When you watch it again after understanding everything and picking up those details once more, you truly get a different feeling. Finally, I want to repeat a quote from the writer: "Sometimes, happiness can give people more strength than tragedy." I believe Edgerunners 2 genuinely achieved this.
>>291717558>The power scaling community is about to experience a massive upheavalGood, I'm sick of seeing "SONGBIRD IS LE STRONGEST SCARIEST PERSON IN CYBERPUNK!!" videos

>>291717584The main complaint is that the new season is trying to do much with various running storylines compared to how S1 was tightly focused on David's rise as an Edgerunner in Night City.I was worried about that as well when the premise of the season two was revealed.
>>291717584What reviews? Everywhere I see is that it's much better than S1

>>291713727They all look overdesigned except for the child. Last season had much better looking characters.
>>291718264This, with the exception of Rebecca, I could easily picture what their in-game models would like if the S1 cast appeared in 2077 but here they look more anime-fied in a sense.

>>291718953Deliver on the scene where D / Kapri brings the apocalypse on Night City (which I'm guessing will be the equivalent of Maine's death for the tone of the story) and I'll be happy desuJust a full episode of the city going into complete chaos
Are there any pure humans left in the setting? being a cyborg looks like a nightmare in Cyberpunk.
>>291717526Pity about the lore abuse and a similarly sped-up later episode problem. The major problem with the predecessor was character development, so glad that is better
>>291719161Morgan Blackhand's entire thing id that he can go toe to toe with anyone despite having no cybernetic enchancements.
>>291719192Really? Seems like the rushed character development is even worse this time around.
>>291719231Blackhand has chrome.
>>291714939>literally made by triggerIrrelevant. Anime is not just an art style, it´s the stories and themes themselves, and perhaps more importantly, how those stories are conveyed. Commissioned work over which a studio doesn´t have full creative control are just anime looking cartoons. Things like this or suicide squad isekai are merely western producers saying they want the anime market. That said one can hardly blame trigger for selling out seeing how dismal the quality of the actually japanese productions is this season. Securing a budget large enough to be able to keep a quality standard and experiment a little with style is no small thing these days. The market is what it is and things are probably going to get worse.
