That said, I will admit that he is much better than the other 3 main Uchihas (S.O.I.), although that is mostly due to headcanon. I like how he contradicts himself, how he criticizes the ninja villages for wanting peace when they do nothing but cause war, and yet this is literally the same thing he does. Then there's the fact that he pretends to be a benevolent, "kind" man who wants to grant everyone peace through the infinite tsukuyomi. But I'm sure most of the anons itt can tell the real reason he does all of this is because he has a messiah complex and thinks he is destined to be the savior of mankind, not because he cares about the wellbeing of others. I think all this hypocrisy actually gives him a lot of character and makes him pretty interesting, and he's far more enjoyable than Kishi desperately trying to make the readers sympathize with Itachi and Obito when they're both cartoonishly evil psychopaths. Sadly, I don't think most of this was intentional, and Madara is actually supposed to be noble and benevolent, and any flaw he has as a person is attributed to "muh Uchiha hate curse" or him being a retard who's Zetsu's puppet.

one thing i appreciated about gaara in part 1 is that he wasn't a perfect victim. he was dangerous to those around him and that's a big reason why everyone stayed away from him.he was kinda freaky looking too. he could elicit repulsion from others.there's something uncomfortable about being able to understand why he, even as a helpless little kid, was treated poorly and how it was also partially his fault, but that's what makes it interesting to me. the story then asks if someone like him can even be loved or if he deserves to die outright since he was a monster. it's an uncomfortable thing to ask since he is still ultimately a traumatized kid. but it was still a fair thing to ask.i appreciated how it wasn't a clear cut victim story where he did no wrong and everyone else was just evil for misunderstanding him or being mean to him.

Also the artstyle in part 2 anime is objectively worse than part 1. Less bold style, more washed out coloring.
