Very good show case of how fucked Baku is, normally he'd totally be able to tell that isn't Yakou A.
It also relates to the talk about how people will start to break when in high pressure situations like battlefields and how Arata is a deviant who excels under those conditions. Here we directly see that Baku isn't.
>>
So what's the timeline on Taka meeting Kyara, Bai Long getting hired to kill him, and Taka leaving Bai Long?
>>
>>291732945
I forgot to mention it when that battlefield speech came up but I remember reading about how after long enough sustained bombardment from artillery the only people that don't completely mentally break down are the psychopaths. Kind of the same idea as what Tatsuki was talking about, and also why Baku is cracking here since he's not a psycho.
>>
>>291733100
I feel like Taka and Kyara knew each other for a few months probably, then Bai Long got hired to kill him after he pissed off enough people and immediately afterward Taka asked him if he'd kill her if someone asked, and then left him due to his answer. She was probably preggo at the time and the question was her testing to see if Bai Long was capable of settling down with her, and she'd probably ask him to spare Kyara too if he answered that he'd spare her. And then because she left him he probably reneged on the contract on Kyara's life because he was looking for her or just generally distraught.

As someone who likes both, I really do think Ashura was something special.
Ashura I think, is probably as close you get to a good tournament based manga. It took all the best cues form the Maximum tournament by telling micro stories in the fighting itself. Compared to what Comic Zenon is now outputting because Shuumatsu popped off, Ashura also had great restraint and focus. It had a strong perspective and confidence in itself to be able to play with it.
Unironically out of fucking everything Resurrection Coliseum and Rosen Garten Saga probably was the closest to that energy of confidence and both of them (well RC is trying too) opened up into some wider end game plot that cleaned everyone up. Where as Shuumatsu is a boring mess now only really surviving on good character designs (Which peaked dat Zero Fucks and Buddha) and something like Tenkaichi keeps showing it's lack of confidence to pull twists or shocks without it being in a very safe straight way. I couldn't see the latter pulling a Dragon Shot Misfires thing.
I don't know if perspective or confidence is the right word, but it's a sense of "in world completeness" in a sense where even if something is extreme or left feel it completely sells it to you. Shamo is a good example of when the writer-artist split because it was clear the writer lost confidence in keeping his little pet monster a real monster and giving him a monster's death. Black Joke is the opposite where the confidence in the sort of edgy world and becomes cool fights in silly levels of dumb shit and falls a part.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk because I missed the last 4 chapter dumps of my ongoing fightfag manga/

Memorial diamonds already use neutral carbon in the process and a memorial diamond is like 2-4 karats at best, I'm eyeballing Lalo's diamonds but those look in the 500-1K ballpark which is just impossible in general even with our current best tech as iirc the current limits to artificial diamonds is around 150 K.
Unlike other artificial gemstones we haven't found a way to create big ones yet because we can't really "grow" them like other gemstones as diamonds need ungodly amounts of pressure and high temperatures on top of a fuckton of energy.
The DNA part is also complete bullshit, there's no DNA in memorial diamonds, it's just pure carbon, but even if we accept the broscience I find it hard to believe that any DNA info would be readable with the amount of filler you'd need to create something that big.

I think it's established pretty early on. Esp with Kaji and Marco. You get a search of yearning with the Hal flashback too.
Plus that's the whole point of the Lalo diamond thing, and Souichi as leader to a lesser extend with rituals. Artificial caring, cloaked in half backed symbolism that Lalo treats as irreplaceable (as diamonds) but not as the people. Eventually leading to him enjoying all the symbols and well ""ideals"" during air poker but never having that fake (which has more value than the real.) relationship that Baku has.

>steel faced emotionless gambling monster
I mean, we've seen Baku be exactly that plenty of times. I understand what people are trying to say in regards to Baku's humanity, but it's a little funny that this line of thinking boils down to "see, Baku is not a literal veteran battlefield supersoldier, he's not so tough when suffering all-out assassination attempts while grieving a close friend, huh!"
It's like saying "oh, people say this Lebron James guy is a monster on the basketball court, but he's quite normal and human in front of a machine gun!".
>>
>>291739942
Also I want to point out that Baku did read Minowa's MP here, because this was before Baku got his phone that he used as a wiretap. I saw some people say Baku just heard Minowa's MP on the wiretap here, but that's not true. He did on the second time however.

The strongest character in the entire series btw.

Not counting my personal theory tht Gonen kicks ass.
>>
>>291740107
I just don't see Kyara losing a one-on-one fight to anyone. It doesn't feel physically possible.
>>
>>291739942
Tbf that's part of the whole "you can't win forever" theme, the more the series progresses the more we see Baku's stone cold monster facade breaks as his challenges grow tougher

Peak Bai Long is probably still in the same bracket as peak Tatsuki/Kyara/Sleeping Billy.
That said, an elderly, out of shape Bai Long fodderized multiple elite referees/players and fought a fresh one armed Yakou to a standstill after all that so it's hard to say, he's clearly sold as one of the most powerful fighters in the Usogui world.
>>
Could Rolon Donaire beat Bai Long?
>>
>>291736910
Yeah. In that regard Usogui is quite secular, doesn't have that mystical/metaphysical charm of Baki, or the insane meta-narrative of Kengan.
>>
>>291736910
>talking to Bakifags is like talking to an African Guru, Chinese Kung-Fu master or an incredibly smart autist that speak only in esoteric lingos.
Maybe in the past but ever since the Netflix series the Baki fanbase is profoundly stupid.
>>
>>291740186
I could see it being up in the air vs current Marco or sleepy Billy
>>
>>291743272
Only superficially, the Baki fandom is still pretty strong, especially on /a/
>>
>>291743598
Not really true in any sense. Threads don't hit bump limit so there's no strong presence and the posts themselves aren't great so there's no strong understanding of the material. I'm not doing a bit here or anything, I genuinely think it's one of the dumbest fanbases I've come across. Kengan threads are stupid but at least they talk about the words in the bubbles, even derisively. The current Baki fanbase will legitimately just look at the pictures in the leak thread on reddit which come out 5 minutes before the actual translated chapter, never bother reading the latter, then just post about how much they miss Jack like some demented relative of his.

I should start Shamo, I'm on Garouden right now. Else, Ashura is exactly how you do a fighting tournament! Big corpos send their fighters to win big prizes and even the "jobbers" have a reason to be here and fight for them. The backstories and characters in Ashura are pretty awesome.
>>291743167
Because at it's core... Usogui isn't a fighting manga, at least for me. The fights are second hand enjoyment or to bring more stakes and difficult situations in a gamble like how do you stop a Caracal or Bai Long without losing everything? Baki has that street fighter vibe that can make you interested in bums fighting on the street for a rock and Kengan is even a different story.
>>291743272
A lot of normalfags catered to Baki and some try their best to "emulate" the sheer metaphysical aspect of it, without understanding shit. And some are even more retarded. But there is still gold in the Baki fanbase but as usual, it's not on "popular" websites like R*ddit or Disc*rd you will find it.
>>
>>291743598
"We" aren't shit, today. Rahen is pretty meh right now, and most of "us" moved to feast on the "party".
>>291743735
Reading is for the weak, it's accepting someone scribbles into ourselves and following the narrative like a husk without free will. The strong just see the images and make it's own headcanon.

Indeed, Jackbro. Most of the real discussion will only happen in small circles. Normalfags talk about Baki to look excentric or look cool, but they don't really care about metaphysical ideas of the manga, they don't know what strong means.

Baki has been in a filler spiral, the current chapters really don't deliver much beyond "look at what yujiro did this week" and that's been the case for half a year now
When the story was actually moving, discussion was had

"Being up in the air", sure. Anyone stronger than Jonglyo can give Kyara a lot of trouble. But ultimately, without outside interference, it just feels nobody is surviving that one final kill-or-be-killed exchange that you'd need to win the fight. Kyara is just too intense/relentless when it matters the most (as long as you don't fucking snipe him midfight kek).

If we’re being honest, the main story of Baki concluded ages ago. The series started with a core conflict between Yujiro and Baki and that’s already been resolved. As a reader, you could’ve been simply read Baki and Grappler and leave the series completely satisfied without touching the sequels. Past a certain point, everything is just Itagaki writing stuff for fun and trying new ideas, it’s for hardcore Baki addicts who love the wild ride

That's fine and all, but it's hard to draw that line in your mind when some of the best content Itagaki has ever written (Pickle, Musashi, Motobe) happens after hundreds of chapters of "filler". It's hard to "stop caring" and "enjoy the ride with no expectations" when we know Itagaki is completely capable of bringing out an Area 51 Alien in 2029 and write a couple of God-Level fights that instantly become classics and part of the lore. I had emotionally tapped out after the Father and Son fight, and then Itagaki comes up with scenes like this (one of my favorites in the entire franchise).

I didn't really like Shamo. It just kinda felt like a pointless story.
>>
>>291729341
So is Baku's Nightmare that his allies leave him or betray him? Or rather, being alone?
It's been shown that Baku deeply cares for his friends....
It's surreal writing that previous sentence in a manga about a genious destroying his oponents in death games...

Reminder that Baku seeing ghosts or hallucinations rooting for his loss is something that was foreshadowed in Labyrinth arc. I recall Kadokura mentioning something about that.

I wonder if Kakerou has had a match as crazy as this.

Leader is supposed to be "perfect", of course he's the least human of the three.
Lalo is deranged, but Souichi is a mix of nature (the 'tism), nurture (if you're raised by Wheels, you can't turn out to be particularly altruistic and caring - double so if you're raised to be Kakerou's Leader) and his resets.
The memory reset in particular won't allow Souchi to be particularly human: whatever positive experience and lesson he gets from someone not affiliated with Kakerou, he's bound to forget.

>Shamo
Be aware that at some point it had to switch magazine and the writer dropped after vol 25.
You can choose when this series ends, actually: after the big fight, at the end of China arc, or at chapter 75. Everything else is a fanfiction written by someone who didn't understand the original work. The ending in itsself ain't that bad, but it's preceded by a very infuriating arc that doesn't exactly resolve anything.
Overall it's 100% worth reading until the conclusion of the big fight. The China arc shifts the tone of the manga, you'll like it or not. If you like it, stick for the dancer dude and his arc and then pretend the series was dropped.
>>291737346
Ashura is the fighting tournament manga because it was the only tournament manga that never made the mistake of shifting the attention from the fights to the weaker overall story. It's fight fight fights from start to end. There's breaks, but they are short and out of necessity.
All the "main" plot is an expedient, and creates momentary challenges and then it solves by itself without any intervention from the main characters. THAT's the perfect choice for a tournament manga.
It's so mindblowing it doesn't make any sense whatsoever that Omega not only didn't learn from Ashura's lesson and success. Actually, Omega did the exact opposite. And they come from the same writer. It makes no sense.

This is what is happening in the gym, they even look baffled when they hear that there is a Baki the Grappler or spin-offs! They don't know shit about Baki and all they do is some "Hanayama" or "Yujiro" things like "aurafarming" or just say that it's schizo shit and they prefer DBZ while screeching like autistic kids who got denied a light show after dead lifting 50kgs. And I don't even mention Kengan. (I can't wait for the Sumo arc with the William thing just to see their reaction)

It's the reverse of Kokou no Hito as well. The first volumes were written as if the writer was following a "generic shonen" template. The moment the artist decided he was going to draw and write, it became an incredible read. It's honestly impressive how the artist was even able to take back and reimagine the previous writer's take on characters.
Ballet arc had tremendous potential. The long build up could have actually led up to something good... but we know the original writer dropped right before its conclusion. Personal opinion: although it should be a separate manga from the rest of the series, the China arc was very good and had a very fitting ending.
