Byakuya and Ulquiorra's segunda etapa are the only times he's truly stuck by his own principles and fought to the bitter end, knowing he might actually lose and die. Every other time he's had to be bailed out or given a pep talk. Despite his talk about wanting to protect others at any cost, when it's left up to Ichigo he will often choose to do nothing. Even 45 shows this. Orihime is the one who perseveres to the end, no matter what happens to her, while Ichigo pleads with her multiple times to just stop. Ichigo holds BC's activation back until an arbitrary point in the battle, opting instead to just let Yhwach kill him over and over for nothing, and it's only thanks to Orihime that he's not simply dead and Yhwach is victorious. Orihime is the only one who keeps pushing, even after TZ breaks and his powers are stolen. But Ichigo is just done, he won't even fight with his bare hands if he has to. Sure his resolve was shattered when faced with the true power of the almighty, but that's nothing new for him. Ichigo gets knocked down all the time, especially in this arc, but rarely picks himself up. It's always someone else doing it for him and then he briefly coasts on their high.
