Everything from the time D picks up the camera to the last scene might be my favorite part of either season. S1 is very textbook with its tragedy, basically outright defining hubris in dialogue and signposting exactly how things are going to end. S2's ending is actually built different.

His whole thing is this washed up dude recovering from an addiction, and he's getting called in by an old flame to try and save her daughter from the same fate. Avida's way more rational than people on 4chan will give her credit for too. Kiril holds all the cards, but she knows he can't be trusted. We watched him basically know his wife was up to some shit, and instead of intervening to keep her from doing something rash, he personally lead the corpo-death squad, and it's reasonable that Avida knew what kind of man he really was long before. She's trying to find any way to save her daughter and give them an exit in the worst-case scenario. Weak goes along with it because he's lost everything else in his life to his cyberpsychosis episode. The best part about his character is that he keeps getting up and keeps moving. Even when Avida's ashes end up everywhere as she literally slips through Weak's fingers (again), he still gets up, abandons his Edgerunner jacket, and rushes to go help Talia. You don't need to know his history to know he's a real one.
Most of the negativity I've seen towards S2 is mostly directed toward the good ending for the characters and how this story sort of breaks from the setting with its tech. I haven't played the games at all so this didn't bother me but it strikes me as a really limited world if every character can only bad end with no possibility of happiness.
