Why does the entertainment industry consistently face similar issues?
Animation, comics, movies, video games, novels.
A creator’s first work is practically a masterpiece, loved by everyone.
But then their second work immediately turns out to be trash, infuriating all the fans.
It feels as if the creator has suddenly lost their creative drive,as if they don’t want to do anything except collect a paycheck.

they make S1 because they want to make it
they make S2 because the company wants to make it

It's never a good idea to pull some continuation out of your arse, to a story that you had already concluded. It can work, rarely, and more likely in a comedic format or when the new story you tell has enough merit of its own while still somehow fitting into the setting and with the characters of the prior story. But usually, it won't work. Particularly when you're forced to prolong a series for profit, as opposed to actually having a vested artistic interest in making it, as >>291770293 said.
