I also will compare it to S1 since I just rewatched it beforehand. Also I went into S2 with the expectation that it wouldn’t be as good as S1 because personally I think S1 was lightning in a bottle and is to date the best anime of the 2020’s - for me it was a neigh perfect 9.5.Story - Overall Structure:I love these kinds of stories with many characters and intertwined plotlines and I do think this style fits the setting better than the straightforward approach of S1. The plot lines are densely intertwined and the execution is good, however at its core this approach is much more difficult to execute and brings its own downsides with it. S1 in comparison had a simple and very well known base structure and executed it perfectly. Also since there are so many characters, the story of S2 is much more character driven - it feels like they have a lot more agency whilst in S1 they were more subordinate to the bigger picture of night city, which in my opinion fit the setting better.Story - Characters & Plot:The character plot lines all make sense and are well executed. I love how every single character is at least borderline insane and they have in general more varied dispositions than the S1 characters. However since there are so many of them they don’t leave much room for background characterizations. I feel like S1 had much more interesting “background” characters that are only peripherally relevant to the story - like Faraday, Tanaka or the BD mixer. This detracts points from the strong mood that S1 had which reminded me of the old GitS Movies at times. I also dislike how weak Arakasa was portrayed in S2, it’s interesting to see a corpo on a downward trend but they were borderline incapable. The danger and influence of the corpos in general was way too underplayed in S2.

In another thread, someone said that they didn't understand why this anime was even made. I'm not going to fully endorse that statement, however, I get the sentiment and even sympathise to a greater extent than what I would otherwise care to admit.Way too many concurrent plot threads for a 10 episode anime, fucking hate the Guy Ritchie school of storytelling. The first season was a pretty straight forward tragic love story, it was an easy crowd pleaser, but this one is just too unfocused with no big pay off and too many loose threads and wasted concepts. Capri was a cool concept completely wasted on this, although I don't like them committing to the indivisible cybersoul bullshit, constructs should more or less be infinitely copy/pasteable, don't give me this bullshit about having to transfer them from one place to another.
