So I'm on episode 9 watching Familiar of Zero, and Louise says "I have no sex appeal at all... That's why you keep going to other girls, isn't it Saito? Because I have no sex appeal!"No Louise. It is because you are racist. It has nothing to do with your physical attributes, and everything to do with your racism. You have called this man a dog and not afforded him basic human rights, nor basic dog rights, as you have repeatedly starved and whipped him. You would be arrested for animal cruelty if this was a dog and I would feel bad about any actually animalistic familiar you might've had if your magic was semi functional, because it'd have a hard time getting any enjoyment out of anything. They should really call her Louise the Racist.Also Louise does have magic. She just has a singular spell: blow shit up. She can say literally anything at all and just cause an explosion. Her magic is entirely about beating the piss out of people with explosions. She’s literally Bakugou. I think she might have a better time being taken seriously if she stopped trying to be a “proper mage” and honed in on what she was good at: blowing shit up. Her explosions literally destroyed the magical barrier to get the staff of destruction. It’s no joke. And she summoned the mystical “Gundolf” so she’s really a sleeper cell when it comes to combat magic. She just needs to get good at aiming. Overpower people with raw force like Fern.As much as I shit on Louise for being racist, I do think she’s an interesting character. Her voice acting is unique and it stands out. Feels like she has some kind of noble brat accent, like exactly how such a character should sound. Though I’m watching the dub so I don’t know what the Japanese voice acting sounds like. How much humiliation must it take for her noble self to start being less racist so she can get the man she desires? Let’s find out.
The aphrodisiac I think is just a lame cop out. If that’s seriously how they’re going to go about getting Louise to be with Saito, instead of having her stop being racist naturally, then we’re just missing out on the character arc the entire story’s been building up to. I’m hoping that the aphrodisiac wears off soon. Now that I’m thinking about it, the dynamic between Louise and Saito really is the heart of this show. And this aphrodisiac makes it feel like Louise isn’t Louise anymore.I think part of her racism must stem from the fact that she and everyone around her believe her inadequate. For other nobles, the thing separating them from peasants is obvious magic. They don’t need to prove themselves and they can feel confident that they are better. If a peasant challenges that notion, well they can kill them with magic. But for Louise, at least in her mind since she believes she’s a no good mage, there is no concrete reason for her to feel better. So she must invent racism to feel better. Similar to white people inventing racism to feel better about owning slaves, because there was no actual reason they were better than them. The racism is a product of deep insecurities of being mocked for what I presume is her entire life. Kyrchie, the one mocking her, feels no such racism.
I would imagine that Saito proving himself a better mage than Louise, someone who’s been studying for years, might make her racism worse. She’s been officially proven to be the worst magic user in the school, she doesn’t even get the satisfaction of being better than her “peasant boy” familiar. Being constantly reminded of this every night, of his existence, might be part of why she treats him this way. He’s her inferiority complex made manifest and spitting in her face. He is a PEASANT, and even a peasant boy can wield magic better than she can, and even this peasant boy is insulting her.Or maybe she’s just like this I don’t know.

Endless frustration, nothing she does is ever enough for anyone, she always easily exceeds the minimum and yet still fails to do anything but score a passing grade. And no matter how fast she runs she never gets anywhere at all, nothing, postive or negative, ever happens to her, she's trapped in an endless quagmire of disappointment and impotence. And then in this near suicidally frustrating torture people have the audacity to tell her she doesn't actually have it all that bad and surely in the future something good will happen, only to then brush her off and continue ignoring her in favor of someone more import, attractive, or skilled.

Racism is obviously a positive trait, it shows that a character is able to make logical judgements to distinguish between groups. If a character isn't racist she's either profoundly mentally retarded or she's a liar.Of course, that doesn't mean she needs to be a cunt.
