The complaint is that the shinobi world is rife with war, and Naruto vows to end this cycle he never actually has to engage with. It is poor worldbuilding. You could replace Dai with adult Guy and kid Guy with Lee and absolutely nothing would change about it, except Lee would have to go "Don't make fun of my master" instead of "Don't make fun of papa". Guy was also a weirdo that other villagers and shinobi made fun of.

And nobody really asked for or needed a Guy flashback. My issue with this entire situation is that it sidelines Lee. That said it's not a bad flashback other than Dai's horrendous design.
