Beautiful Darkness's whole thing is the 'blissful ignorance of bad things happening'. It is disturbing in a sense of depicting little dudes suffering and dying while seemingly being unable to develop an anxiety against danger. Which is pretty good, but kinda cold. While this has more going on that digs at your emotions and really bother you. The characters know what world they're in, rather than passing through it blind to the danger around them.

Also imo the moe art style takes away from the gravitas. Kerascoët's mix of realistic forest and humans with the cartoon-like faeries was more eerie, and it was also in color like a picture book.

It's a little hard to fully sympathize with one side or the other when it seems like the different groups of mushroom people would be murdering each other in horrific fashion for arbitrary differences regardless of the circumstances.
