Just be aware that the first couple chapters are super rough. The author was a novice when it came to the action genre, and needed to get his footings down after doing slapstick comedy for his early career.

Rewind endings are a clear sign the author didn't know how to finish his series.

The kingdom didn't fall because of a massive demonic invading force, or a giant magical disaster. It fell because of incompetency, where the administration was unable to deal with a sudden change in the rain cycle, leading to a massive famine and unrest, then a population migration leaving the land to be retaken by nature.
Wouldn't it be funny if the fall wasn't so dramatic?

If this was anyone else, I would have just dismissed it as another typical fantasy story BUT would have kept reading anyway to see if it ended up like Centuria. However, this is the author of Claymore we are talking about here, his monster designs are peak. Seeing this new manga start out with a basic-bitch lizard monster is like seeing a person holding back their, knowing he's capable of doing so much more. I probably shouldn't stereotype the author based on his previous experience but I have high hopes here. It could either connect to Claymore or be it's own original thing and either way would be good.
>>
>>292005065
It's the two kingdoms (or ducchy's or whatever) with a fairy between them.
As they've been fairied away.
>>

It could be that killing that dude unleashed magic on the world like in those chapters of Berserk

>>292004702
I would say it's a pretty lackluster first chapter. We know nothing about the time/world she lived in so who the fuck cares that she traveled in time a 1000 years? Makes no difference to us. Also she traveled from a medieval fantasy setting into another medieval fantasy setting, so it's hardly some big reveal, unlike if she woke up in modern times or something, though that trope is also done to death. There's also no chance those kids won't be annoying and a liability. Basically, we need a few more chapters to get a feel of this manga, but so far it's not a very good first impression.
>>

That fish? It killed billions.

The legend of two kingdoms had to have grown to become a cultural symbol, so it shouldn't have been instantly. Seeing how the only ones witness to the duel were her companions, they had to have survived too.

They're only stylized to look modern like due to a hoodie, but there's nothing inherently modern about them. The boy wears a pouch on a belt. Notice how they also don't question her appearance of a knight in a suit of armor, which would be the first reaction if this was a mode advanced world.

So the most interesting thing about the Fairy Basslet is that there is no clear distinction between the the two sexes until they hit adulthood. That and the male is the one that takes care of the eggs, but that isn't that special when it comes to the Gramma genus.
Will this animal genetics be important to this story? Or is this a case of the author seeing the world fairy being used for a fish, and doing something like making literal fish fairies?

>MC slays El Hermano killer
>El Hermano Killer obviously has a backup plan since he kisses MC without fear of death
>MC dies
>El hermano killer backup plan activates (most likely because of "magic")
>he's back and fucks up her kingdom, everyone she knows dies
>1000 years later, Fishe revives MC
>we are here
There could also be a twist that El Hermano is actually alive & evil and that the killer is actually a good guy, but I am not gonna assume that possibly until more info is given.

A review by some random asshole. Gorgeous art and spreads. The heroin's nobility and capability are a big selling point for me, plus she's gorgeous herself. The kids were fine, no idea what role they'll play. The transition from being passed out in her cart to being in the future felt too sudden and the explanation by the boy felt too expository, though I appreciate that it felt like telling an unknowingly revived Achilles or King Arthur his own legend. I think these events would have been better spread over 1.5-2 chapters, but manga has to go at breakneck speeds nowadays I suppose.
>>
>>292003962

>>292005931
>I only read yuri should I pick this up or not?
So you want to see all yuri girls getting killed again and see femMC being forced by author to be into boring shota who gonna get super free power-up too out of nowhere to be there for her after timeskip?
If you want to read this don't read it for yuri, cause even if author gonna bait with it for some time you should know by now he won't deliver and will turn it hetero completely, author is a yuri hater after all if Claymore resolution is any indication.
>>
>>292007300
After a thousand years, she probably wouldn't have been able to understand anything those kids said, since language would have changed after all that time.
If Achilles or King Arthur were real, them being sent a few hundred years into the future of their own kingdoms would have resulted in the same thing. Awkward staring at a couple of peasant children talking in a foreign language.

However, it's strange that the wooden cart and the flesh on some skeletons has not fully rotten out in a thousand years given the humid environment.

Claymore is monster slayer women in a Berserk-like setting working for a mysterious/evil organization.
>>
>>292008219
I´m assuming this Luchsnase dude will revive aswell and become a regular character, probably on the other side of whatever the plot ends up being.
>>
How was the ending of Ariadne? Did it have a connection with the world of Claymore?
>>
"Bartlet" sounds really lame to an American, apparently this word doesn't even have the decency to sound fancy like ballet. I would have called it Fairy Basslet Fantasy if I had to keep the name similar.

>>

not to answer that, but ariadne felt like having an RPG party that doesn't have that much relevance to the plot , from time to time
>>
This Luchsnase guy should have looked like Sephiroth or something to get some female fans, he looks kinda lame. Chicks love a beautiful rapist.
>>
>>292008479
But he looks like a woman? One of those dollar store Griffiths that fantasy stories like to use.

>>292008539
I mean a beautiful MAN. Women like how Sephiroth looks but they don't really care for Griffith (he's for the gay dudes). I've noticed this author has trouble making sexy men despite succeeding in making masculine sexy women.

>>
This needed to be like 75 pages to arrive at some better cliffhanger. She slept for 1000 years? Who cares?
>>
>>292010433
It was kind of weak hook to be all honest.
It might have been better if the first chapter was her waking up on the first page, going to find her collapsed kingdom, explore this village a bit while getting information on the age, and then tell her backstory that we see at the start in the next chapter, maybe have her tell the real version of this legend as the reason for the flashback.
>>
>>292004702
So far, it's generic.
He should have continued the Knight and the Corpse instead.
>>
>>292010871
Maybe the editors relied on the name recognition and didn't bother with a solid first chapter.
>>
>>292011030
The big issue is that we are going to get a flashback anyways, maybe multiple ones. Our miss knight here is going to have to tell us the days of her youth, her relationship with her bro, her time as leader of this elite knight unit, and her other attempts at killing that rival of hers.
Getting the whole thing done with a single chapter would have been my suggestion.

It just meandered about for 22 volumes, it never managed to get any sort of tension built into it like Claymore did when you had important characters getting killed nonstop.

Fantasy since even Tolkien has rotten peoples perception of the passage of time with how authors casually throw out numbers like "10'000 Year Old Kingdom" or "This happened a Million Years Ago". In truth the entirety of human history (depending on how you define the switch from pre-history to history) is only about 5000-6000 years long. ALL of it. And approximately half of that was the Bronze Age which was 2000-3000 years of barely anything happening. That means that basically every "ancient" People, Kingdom, Empire, or Ruler you've ever heard about except Egypt (Or the Hittite's if your watching Red River this season) happened all in the last 3000 years. So her Kingdom having passed into ancient legend even if it took another century after she died for it to fall is easily believable.

I should get back to Ariadne. The first few chapters were kind of fun.
>>
Kind of a messy first chapter. So she's mortally wounded and then we transition to the future with literally a single panel which is just awkward. Then she fights a bunch of skeletons, and then saves those kids from a monster who tell her she woke up after a 1000 years. None of those things is a good hook to keep you reading. Let's see what the second chapter will do.
>>
>>292007979
Yeah, I assumed one of the reasons Ariadne looked the way it did was moving to a weekly from a monthly. This one looks closer to Claymore than the former, which feels like it'd be hard to keep up weekly. Probably have a few chapters ready to go weekly then shift to biweekly/monthly.
>>
>>292021688
Aren't those literally the character from this chapter?
>>
>>292021724
It's kind of funny.
Normally we get a narration on the state of the world on the first page. In this case, we would have gotten a run down from a unseen narrator about why the two kingdoms are fighting, for how long, and maybe a small blurb on the major players.
We just get dropped into the battlefield without any information.

I can absolutely do without that. It's the awkward transition to the future and nothing interesting happening there that's jarring.
>>
>>292021724
I kind of agree. Personally I don't mind some ambiguity in the first few chapters, and I'm grateful we didn't get info dumped like so many other fantasy stories are wont to do, but I do agree it's missing an oomph to grab the readers attention. Honestly speaking I'm willing to give it a chance solely becuase Brunhilde is an autistic hottie.

According to Google AI it's possible for woodworks from 1000+ years ago to survive and not give in to the rot. Ancient craftsaman had their techniques that facilitated wood preservation. Though, a wooden cart that was allowed to be overgrown with vegetation should be completely gone by now, but we can chalk it up to artistic license.

It didn't bother me, though it does feel a bit short. The way it's set up is meant to make the audience follow the heroine's perspective, but without weighing it down with a bunch of exposition that she, herself, would not need to receive. The transition is her passing out and then waking up, and that disorientation and cryptic sense of mystery comes from neither her now the audience having any clue what has happened. Though the audience is more likely to guess what has happened.

I love Claymore. I’ve read it at least 5 times and it’s literally my favorite shonen. I love it so much that I even got a cringy tattoo of Clare on my back.

I know that it got many flaws and isn’t really anything special but personally it’s just my favorit when it comes to basically everything I want out of a shonen.

Hopefully this new series can bring back that same spark. It might even seem like a prequel to claymore in world outside the island.
>>
>>292021945
egypt is a pretty unique example archaeologically because of how dry and arid it is, organic material like wood and papyri can survive for millennia in the right conditions. (like inside of tombs) pretty much anywhere with more moisture means much more of it is just gone except for large examples, like some parts of wood anglo saxon churches that survive. i actually saw wooden stuff from that very same 18th dynasty tomb earlier today, it's awesome.
