as weak as the finale was as an arc the actual final fight was pretty cool but this one element really bothered me, should have had it be some sort of chemical that did him in so it could wear off instead of getting worse and feeling silly when getting worse didn't matter
>>
This chapter was pretty sweet, maybe the best of this long final arc. I bet that Suzuki had this idea in the bag for a long time

As weird as it sounds, I think it would be better off axed under 18 since it doesn't show how interesting this series really is.

The lore/world-building is a joke or doesn't make any sense, lacking memorable fighting abilities or special moves, and underused characters like Lu and Ryota. And the worst part is the main character, like Sakamoto, felt like an afterthought since Suzuki couldn't write him interestingly if he tired, which makes me think he wanted Shin to be MC instead.

I would rather not beat around the bush, and I'm going to say it: this series will be forgotten in 1 or a few years after that.

Truly, a people fight manga.
>>
>>292008116
Shin is the relatable character an author puts in because they think the main character is not relatable enough for their main audience. Like Robin being created for thinking kids wouldn't be able to relate to Batman. I imagine a fat character who looks middle aged was a hard sell for Jump. That said, I think there's nothing wrong with the writing in this series as soon as you realize what kind of work this is. John Wick is the same in terms of world building, with assassins being hidden but at the same time it seems like everyone and their mother is or knows an assassin. Everything is there just so you care the bare minimum about the world and characters involved in a fight to set up the fight itself. It does a good enough job at that.
>>
>>292008116
Hard disagree, you focus excessively in the narrative components who I agree, are the weakest part of the manga..

But this a visual medium, Suzuki is really talented as an artist and also his way of crafting action sequences is pretty unique. There was genuinely a point time when I watched fights in other series and I said to myself " they don't hit the same as SD"

If you think that this manga is not going to inspire ( as if it hasn't done it already) some authors to "draw a fight as cool as that", you're not really aware how legacy works in a medium like this.
>>
WHERE IS MR TAKAMURA
>>
>>292008403
John Wick 1 was much more grounded and believable, you don't need to explain how underworld assassins work because it doesn't need to until they do in later movies where everyone in NYC is an assassin, which doesn't make any goddamn sense. The same thing happened to SD too, which is why SD's world-building around is awful.

>>292008673
He's a skilled artist, no doubt about it, but at the same time, he wasn't really a good writer, which was a total fluke on his part.

>If you think that this manga is not going to inspire ( as if it hasn't done it already) some authors to "draw a fight as cool as that", you're not really aware how legacy works in a medium like this.

I highly doubt it because there is nothing to really stand out apart from WSJ; even if it has a good action, it is plain boring to others because it doesn't have any memorable fighting abilities or special moves like in other series like JJK, MHA, Demon Slayer, and BC. At the end of the day, it's just another boring people fight.

>I think it would be better off axed under 18 since it doesn't show how interesting this series really is.
Fucking binary nonsense. You can make an argument that it should be shorter but this kind of reductive shit is completely retarded
>>
>>292009076
What is so interesting about this series besides actions? It's just nothing in here.
>>
>>292009231
>besides actions?
It's like asking what's so interesting about a comedy series other than the humor. To me it's like a Jackie Chan movie, dragon ball, Baki, John Wick or even porn. You have an excuse plot to set things up, but the martial arts and choreography in this case are what you're here for. As long as it does its strong points well and doesn't completely shit the bed with the rest, it's good enough.
>>
>>292008673
It clearly inspired Kagurabachi's style of framing the fight scenes. Hokazono is nowhere on Suzuki's level though.
>>
>>292009231
>what's the selling point besides the selling point
>>
>>292009445
Last time it used to have humor when it wasn't taken so seriously, and unfortunately his editor wanted to make a serious action manga with that shitty villain like X/Slur and expand on worldbuilding, which is really terrible on his part. His writing skill is plain suck in general.

>>292009912
A manga with no plot is just a picture book that overstayed its welcome.

>A manga with no plot is just a picture book that overstayed its welcome.
Another retarded statement. A picture book has no defined length
>>
>>292005821
sakamoto has become too powerful...
>>
>>292010244
Do we even read the same manga? It just comes to an endless number of people fighting after people fight, it's getting really old fast. And the main plot of it means fuckall.
>>
>>292010324
That's not my point , you need to stop with the crap analogies and actually read what people say
>>
>>292005821
Sakamoto is my fucking HERO.
>>
>>292010408
I don't care, and I simply said this series is just forgettable and unmemorable. No matter how they claim it is, it just bores.
>>
>>292010324
>It just comes to an endless number of people fighting after people fight
yes
>it's getting really old fast
no
>>
If you get to nearly chapter 300 of a manga you haven't enjoyed for 100s of chapters that speaks more about yourself than the manga.
>>
>>292010572
>I won't listen to what people have to say but I will tell you my opinion like a fucking cunt
Shut the fuck up
>>
>>292010324
Very reductive.. It's like saying a truth like JoJos is mostly disposable villain after disposable villain and the plots and characters are whatever. But never trying to analyze what makes the series so beloved and influential..

I would bet you have a lot to say about the character and plot of SD. But nothing in regards how the action scenes are crafted and what specifically Suzuki does to make them so compelling .. The skill behind the strongest aspect of the series.
>>
>>292010592
I never get tired of reading DBZ, JJK, MHA and Naruto. All of them have people fight but with actual cool abilities that I never get tired of reading. I cannot say the same for SD, even SD's plot wasn't that good either.

>>292010676
You bring up a good point about JoJos and disposable villains, which is true, but I don't think everyone who is reading JoJos ever cares for them unless they were a main villain, that is.

As for action, Suzuki was his strongest point, and I'm surprised it lasted so long with small or no plots at all.
>>
>>292011417
Well you clearly like magical power systems, that's fine. Check how Suzuki portraits impact and specially speed, put an eye on the composition of some of the panels and double spreads, notice how he understands how a good location can enrich in different ways an action scene or how he he privileges clarity and flow from panel to panel, notice than even in the panels designed only to interconnect moments the martial arts choreography is still very strong.. The action in SD is very stylized and Suzuki constantly tries to bring new stuff to the table. It may not have convoluted magic with tons of rules and regulations but it oozes artistry.

What a great fight. People shitting on this manga need to go jerk themselves off so they can feel joy again.

The lack of complicated power systems is also refreshing if you come right out of JJK or something, it's like back to basics.
Also even without them, Suzuki is able to come up with fun gimmicks for the fights like the assassin that reveres sports and fights with a ball, so Shin has to figure out what he's playing in each of his moves to exploit the rules against him. He's like "hey you stepped on the line, that means I get a free hit" and the guy's like "you're right!"
