>>292021676Typically I'd agree but there's enough barely touched on lore that goes far enough back into the past in Naruto that they can easily write going in any direction that would have real stakes that the audience can't predict the outcome of. The first and second ninja wars are complete mysteries, they could write pretty much anything for them. Orochimaru travelled all over the place meddling in tons of different nations and conducting all kinds of experiments, there's plenty of things he could have attempted that could have been successful or failures that we wouldn't know about until they get written. Also there's characters like Minato or Kakashi's dad that people just want to see more of because they're cool even though we already know how they die. There's nothing inherently wrong with low stakes side stories about cool characters that exist just to be fun. Although I don't think even stories like that necessarily have to be low stakes, especially in the case of Kakashi's father, the stakes can come from the success of the mission and what the goal of the mission was, not necessarily just from if the characters live or die in each battle. The in universe politics of Naruto allow for a lot of high stakes situations that come from the outcome of plans rather than just the outcome of individual battles. We know next to nothing about Fugako despite him being the head of the Uchiha clan/Leaf police force and a serious contender for the role of the 4th hokage. Not all of these things need to be fleshed out, hell, none of them really NEED to be, but they'd all make for way more interesting stories than anything going on in Boruto or really anything that could follow after Shippuden. I think Naruto is a series uniquely suited to lore diving in a way most shows aren't.
