The cave Falin used to go on school was a "natural dungeon". The thing with "artificial dungeons" is that they use the demon's powers to increase the magic of a location. That's also the reason why there can't be high level monsters everywhere, since Dungeon Lords are basically playing an eternal resource management game and doing that would destroy the balance they feel comfortable in.

So I suspect many readers might assume some contrived bullshit to pad the story after Thistle lost. Dungeon Meshi is one of my favorite stories, and a big part of that is that it meets two of my most important criteria for fantasy and science fiction:> the story being told could not possibly happen in any other setting than the one it takes place in, if you could pick up and drop this same story into another established setting and it works without issue its shit worldbuildingand> the story being told could not survive without THIS SPECIFIC person as the main character.
