Starting the cour continuing Asuka's needlessly long arc made a lot of people lose interest it seems. Not the first time Studio Feel has almost killed an adaptation with their favoritism.

I remember that one where the guy gets depressed after almost being hit in the face with a football was a mediocre anime with a dumb plot but the LN monologues were 10/10 kino. Also doesn't help that Feel are playing favorites again and prolonged the Asuka arc.
