Honey Creep is a new series from Mitsuharu Yanamoto, the author of series such as Ryuu to Ichigo and Hibiki - Shousetsuka ni Naru Houhou, which won the Manga Taisho award in 2017. Based on the first chapter, it's a drama series about love, fate, and some other things... It goes in some interesting places.
I'll be dumping the first chapter with rough translations. Here is the cover of this week's Weekly Shonen Sunday, featuring the two main characters.

We start with Arisu, a young girl reading a fairy tale about the destined love between a prince and a princess. This talk of fate and destined partners seems to make an impression on her.
She drops her book when some kids shove her, and goes to pick it up...

Could this be fate...?

Luckily they're both okay. The boy scolds her and tells her to be more careful, which makes her cry.
>>
File: i-014.jpg (331 KB, 1114x1600)
331 KB JPG
He then comforts her, and she's now convinced that he is her destined prince.
>>
File: i-015.jpg (423 KB, 1114x1600)
423 KB JPG
Time passes, and they're now in elementary school. She's reading stories about fated love again, absorbed to the point that she didn't even hear the boy (whose name is Hayato) talk to her.
>>
File: i-016.jpg (459 KB, 1114x1600)
459 KB JPG
The boy tells her she should join their basketball club instead of reading all the time, but she's not interested because she's a cultured young lady. The truck incident was around 4 years ago, and apparently he's still friends with the boys who shoved her back then. He promises to hang out later, but they start teasing Arisu.
>>
File: i-017.jpg (347 KB, 1114x1600)
347 KB JPG
And Hayato's having none of that. She's crying and thinking of cutting her hair, and he tells her to stop being such a crybaby.
>>
File: i-018.jpg (398 KB, 1114x1600)
398 KB JPG
And then, he comforts her again, and tells her not to cut her pretty hair. By now, she's absolutely convinced that they're destined to be together.
Jump forward five years. The year's 1997, and they're now in middle school.
>>
File: i-019.jpg (407 KB, 1114x1600)
407 KB JPG
Hayato and friends are going to be graduating from middle school soon. Hayato's evidently gotten very good at basketball, and has some fangirls now, including the club's manager.
>>
File: i-020.jpg (430 KB, 1114x1600)
430 KB JPG
But he still hangs out with Arisu in the library. She was reading about Laplace's demon that day, and how you'd be able to predict the future if you fully understood all of the world's physics and its present state, and how quantum mechanics makes future unpredictable.
>>
File: i-021.jpg (418 KB, 1114x1600)
418 KB JPG
However, she still believes in fate (and in them being fated partners). Hayato's marveling at how much they've grown since they first met in the truck incident. He starts to bring up something, but...

They come across a fortune teller that wasn't there yesterday, and decide to give it a shot. Only one person allowed at a time.
>>
File: i-023.jpg (393 KB, 1114x1600)
393 KB JPG
The fortune teller's a weird old lady who makes a bunch of mistaken guesses for fun before starting the real reading.
>>
File: i-024.jpg (429 KB, 1114x1600)
429 KB JPG
She sees that Hayato's future is dark... He should leave this place right away if he wants to avoid it. He doesn't believe in this stuff, though. His future's for him to decide.
>>
File: i-025.jpg (420 KB, 1114x1600)
420 KB JPG
Arisu's turn. She wants a love fortune, of course, but the fortune teller just does the same routine as before. But this time...
>>
File: i-026.jpg (457 KB, 1114x1600)
457 KB JPG
Well, that can't be good. Needless to say, Arisu's future is dark.
>>
File: i-027.jpg (451 KB, 1114x1600)
451 KB JPG
She should really just kill herself now if she doesn't want to wander in darkness for all eternity. Arisu's not impressed. She believes that the future is bright, and that if you wish hard enough, your wish will be granted. That's what fate is.
>>
File: i-028.jpg (408 KB, 1114x1600)
408 KB JPG
Walking home, the topic turns to their upcoming graduation trip with their friends. They decide that a ski trip would be good. Arisu plans to confess to Hayato on the trip. But then, he says he wants to tell her something. Could this be a confession...?
>>
File: i-029.jpg (383 KB, 1114x1600)
383 KB JPG
He got a girlfriend.
>>
File: i-030.jpg (425 KB, 1114x1600)
425 KB JPG
Fast-forward to January 1998. The four friends – Hayato, Arisu, and the guys who were bullying Arisu back then – are looking forward to their ski trip, and marveling at how they've been together for six years.
>>
File: i-031.jpg (404 KB, 1114x1600)
404 KB JPG
Also with them is Hayato's new girlfriend, Moeka. The guys are marveling at how Hayato was the first of them to get a girlfriend... Even though it wasn't the girl they were expecting.
>>
File: i-032.jpg (396 KB, 1114x1600)
396 KB JPG
At the resort, Arisu chats with Tooru, the black-haired friend, who says that the three of them can't let Hayato overshadow them forever, and should find partners soon, too.
>>
File: i-033.jpg (441 KB, 1114x1600)
441 KB JPG
Hayato has some romcom shenanigans with Moeka.
>>
File: i-034.jpg (425 KB, 1114x1600)
425 KB JPG
The other friend's name is Ken, incidentally. The owner of the lodge they'll be staying at comes to pick them up. They mention that they're on their graduation trip (except Moeka, who's a grade below them), and he says that it's nice to be young. He's the kind of guy who's always talking about how nice it is to be young.
>>
File: i-035.jpg (451 KB, 1114x1600)
451 KB JPG
Still, even at 48, he thinks that life only gets more enjoyable every day.
At the lodge, they have two rooms - one for girls, one for boys. Tooru just now notices that Arisu hurt her hand while skiing, even though he used to always notice things like that before anyone else. Tooru carries Arisu's bags.
>>
File: i-036.jpg (438 KB, 1114x1600)
438 KB JPG
At their room, Moeka tries to chitchat with Arisu and flatters her a bit, but the topic ends up veering into her dating Hayato. Arisu isn't interested, and they head down for dinner.
>>
File: i-037.jpg (508 KB, 1114x1600)
508 KB JPG
The owner is a good cook, apparently, and uses wild plants from his hometown in his dishes. An older man who seems like a regular customer says that his food gets better every time they come there.
After dinner, they marvel at how cheap the rooms were for such a nice place.
>>
File: i-038.jpg (376 KB, 1114x1600)
376 KB JPG
The owner brings coffee and tea, and when the low price is brought up, the man from before explains that the owner used to be the president of a big company, and is doing this as a hobby after retiring. Another guest goes to his room without coffee.
Then, the owner notices that Arisu isn't around.
>>
File: i-039.jpg (463 KB, 1114x1600)
463 KB JPG
She's outside, thinking that she should just have stayed home. It wasn't meant to be like this. She was going to confess, they'd have gazed at the night sky together... It should have been fate.
Just then, someone walks up behind her. Hayato?
>>
File: i-040.jpg (429 KB, 1114x1600)
429 KB JPG
Nope, just the owner. He tells her to not wander further off, since it might be dangerous. But she asks him what made him start his lodge. Did he feelt that it was fate?
>>
File: i-041.jpg (417 KB, 1114x1600)
417 KB JPG
He says that he does everything on instinct. If something's in your way, you just need to put some effort in. Having goals is what gives you the ability to put in the effort.
Suddenly, there's some sort of loud noise, like something breaking.
>>
File: i-042.jpg (497 KB, 1114x1600)
497 KB JPG
Back inside, it seems that everyone heard the sound. It sounded almost like a gunshot - might be someone hunting bears. But it seemed to come from somewhere nearby... They decide to check everyone's rooms just to be sure. At last, they come to the room of the male guest from earlier...

The owner's a bit confused, but the older male guest rushes in.

He takes charge, checks the man's vitals, and pronounces him dead.
>>
File: i-047.jpg (512 KB, 1114x1600)
512 KB JPG
A little later, he comes down with a more detailed report: His body was still warm, so he died within the last hour. Cause of death: Shot in the head. That was probably the sound they heard.
>>
File: i-048.jpg (441 KB, 1114x1600)
441 KB JPG
He introduces himself as a surgeon from Osaka University Hospital. The kids take a little while to fully take the situation in. A man was shot... murdered.
>>
File: i-049.jpg (415 KB, 1114x1600)
415 KB JPG
Moeka's in full panic, and the doctor's wife seems shaken too. The doctor explains that this lodge isn't the only one with cheap prices in the area: All the nearby lodges have been lowering their prices.
>>
File: i-050.jpg (444 KB, 1114x1600)
444 KB JPG
The reason is a series of mysterious disappearances in the area that have been going on for some years now. No bodies were ever found, so it didn't really make the news, but it's caused the area's reputation to plummet... Of course, as the owner points out, it's all just rumors.
They then realize they should be calling the police, but the calls won't go through.
>>
File: i-051.jpg (467 KB, 1114x1600)
467 KB JPG
The owner asks everyone where they were when they heard the shot. The doctor was in the kitchen getting more coffee, his wife was in the first floor bathroom, and the kids were in the lounge.
>>
File: i-052.jpg (421 KB, 1114x1600)
421 KB JPG
He says he doesn't suspect anyone, of course, but wanted to be sure since he was outside with Arisu at the time. The doctor notes the hole in the window, meaning that the shot came from outside. The killer is out there...
Tooru suggests driving away, but with the snowstorm and darkness, the owner deems it too dangerous.
>>
File: i-053.jpg (414 KB, 1114x1600)
414 KB JPG
He says that they should spend the night at the lodge, and go to the police in the morning.
He thinks that the snowstorm may be why their phones aren't working, but Moeka thinks the timing is too perfect for it to not be the killer's doing.
>>
File: i-054.jpg (416 KB, 1114x1600)
416 KB JPG
The doctor says that it will be safest if they all stay together, but thinks that they should get their things from their rooms before anything else. The owner says he'll bring blankets for everyone. They're told to move in groups and avoid windows.
Arisu is still in shock, so she decides to go to the toilet. Moeka comes with her.
>>
File: i-055.jpg (411 KB, 1114x1600)
411 KB JPG
Moeka says that it's like they've been plunged into a mystery story, and asks if Arisu has already figured out the killer, since she's so smart. Arisu tells her to stop thinking of stories at a time like this... Even though she's the one who shouldn't be feeling so annoyed at Moeka at a time like this.
>>
File: i-056.jpg (435 KB, 1114x1600)
435 KB JPG
And then, Moeka says she wants to talk about Hayato. She thinks this might be the last chance to have a proper talk, since Arisu's graduating.
>>
File: i-057.jpg (408 KB, 1114x1600)
408 KB JPG
She wants Arisu to stay away from Hayato from now on. They're dating now, so she doesn't want him to be hanging out with other women.

>When did it become like this?
Arisu was in love with Hayato too, right?
>It's like I've gotten lost in a different world.
But now, Moeka's his girlfriend.
>Me and Hayato are bound by fate. We're going to graduate, start dating, go to the same high school, go to the same university, get married in a small church, have a boy and a girl, build a small white house on a hill...
Hayato is dating someone else, a man has died... Is this even real? In a daze, Arisu accidentally opens the utility closet.
>>

But they definitely heard a gunshot...
>Sounded like something breaking.
>Cause of death: Shot in the head. That was probably the sound everyone heard.
>Where was everyone when they heard the shot?
>In the kitchen.
>In the bathroom.
>Right here.
>Outside, with Arisu.
Arisu figures out who the killer is.

Moeka asks her why she never did anything, even though she loved Hayato. She then apologizes for talking about that at a time like this, and turns to leave. Just one last thing...

Moeka's worked hard for this. She fell for Hayato at first sight when she entered school two years ago. She became the manager of the basketball club despite having no interest in it, and kept trying to charm him no matter how much the other people hated her for it. Arisu, the childhood friend, must have thought that she could just wait and something would happen.
Well, thinks Arisu, they were fated to be together, after all. Was she wrong to just wait? To get something, you need to work for it...?

...It couldn't be helped.
Arisu and Hayato are fated to be together.
Fate does exist. And if obtaining that fate requires effort, she's ready to do whatever it takes.
She's going to build her fate herself.

End of chapter 1. I'm probably not going to do this again, but I hope you enjoyed it.

First fanart.
I don't know why but I feel this will be the first series from the author that gets consistent translations.
>>
I wonder where Arisu goes from here.
I guess pinning Moeka's murder on the original culprit would make sense, but I don't know how she'll manage it because everyone knows the two of them went off to the toilet together. Maybe next chapter she'll devise some kind of alibi trick.
I could also see her maybe contacting the original culprit and cooperating with them.
>>
>>292071680
Assuming the culprit was behind all those other disappearances, he could choose to take the fall for her on his own, like a passing of the torch thing. It's not like one more body would make much of a difference.

I think it's interesting that she basically ends up having the same attitude as Hayato towards the future by the end, just framed as her working her way towards some predetermined fate.

>You’re a… second year high school student, aren’t you? You’re in the baseball club, and your grades aren’t too great.
>I’m a third year middle schooler. I’m in the basketball club, and my grades put me about 20th out of 200.

>Ahahaha! Just a joke! A little joke!
>…Thanks.

>Now then, Yasushi-kun.
>It’s Hayato.
>>
>>292069079
>Ah…

>This isn't good…

>Your future is dark!
>You should leave this town at once!

>Not that I expect you to listen to the words of a strange old lady like myself.
>*Hehe*

>I’ve never had my fortune told before.
>So this is what it’s like.

>Sorry, but I don’t believe in fortunes.
>I’ll decide my own future.

>Are you finished already!? How was it?
>Hard to say…
>>
>>292069105
>Excuse me…

>Sit down and shut up and I’ll give you a spot on reading!
>Young lady, you’re in your first year of high school, you’re in the broadcasting club, your grades are average...
>And your name’s Yoshie, isn’t it!

>I’m a third year middle schooler, I’m in the library committee, not a club...
>My grades are best in the school...
>And my name is Ootsuka Arisu.

>Just a joke! A little joke!
>Erm… Can you tell me my love fortune…
>Stop!

>That’s not how we do things here.
>It’s your whole future that I look at.

>*crack!*
>>
>>292069133
>*shatter*

>It’s in pieces…
>It must be designed to do that, but I didn’t notice and seams at all.
>Fortune telling is rather fun.

>Arisu-chan...
>I may well have been born just to meet you here.

>Right…
>So, about my lovefortune…
>Arisu-chan, I’ve seen your destiny, and…

>Your future is dark.
>>
>>292069148
>The only way to escape this destiny is to end your life right now!
>If you don’t…
>You’re destined to wander in eternal darkness!

>*pout*

>Not that I expect you'll listen to me.
>*Hehe*
>Thank you very much.

>I believe in destiny.

>My future is bright.
>If I wish hard enough, my dreams will come true.
>*That’s* destiny!
>>
>>292069175
>What a weird fortune teller, huh?
>Maybe by first saying those nasty things...
>She was going to try to sell us something.

>That reminds me! We’ll be going on our middle school graduation trip in January!
>Where should we go?
>Aah…

>Tooru said something about an onsen, like he’s an old man.
>Ken suggested skiing, although I’ve never done it before.
>An onsen sounds nice.
>Really? I’d take skiing.

>Skiing sounds nice too.
>Our graduation trip…

>That’s where I’ll confess.

>Actually...
>There’s something...
>I have to tell you, Arisu.
>Eh?

>Ah…
>Is he going to… confess…
>>
>>292069198
>I’m going out with someone.
>>
>>292069210
>Two months later. January 1998

>Ski you later! Haha!
>I don’t know how you can be so excited to do an activity you’ve never done before.
>It’s my first time too, but I’m looking forward to it.

>As you all know, I always unveil a hidden talent when I try a new sport!
>I’d rather make a snowman instead.

>But to think the four of us are all still together, all the way from the third year of primary school.

>I’ve known you two for six years, huh? Back then you were always teasing Arisu, and now we’re on a graduation trip together.

>And we've got a new member.
>>
>>292069230
>I’m sorry for intruding on your trip, senpai! I feel out of place with you all being childhood friends.

>No worries! No worries! You’re our basketball team manager, after all, Moeka-chan!
>Besides, you’re the first girlfriend to come out of our group!
>I never thought Hayato’d beat me to it!
>Shut it!
>It’s hardly a surprise.

>Although, it’s not who I thought you’d get with.
>*Mumble*

>Hm?
>It’s nothing.
>>
>>292069252
>*Zoom!*
>*bam bam bam*

>It’s just like you to get the hang of it so quickly, Ootsuka. It’s your first time skiing, right?
>What are you doing, Tooru-kun?
>Just what it looks like.

>When you were little, you were always crying and cowering behind Hayato, but when you put your mind to it, you can do anything.

>And now Hayato has a girlfriend, huh?
>We’d better hurry up and find someone too.
>>
>>292069272
>Kya!
>*Thud*

>Waah!
>You’ve got to point the skiis outwards… although, you’re falling over before you even get that far.

>Hn! Nn!

>Hayato-kun! I can’t stand up!
>Come here.

>Hmph!
>Hey!

>Ah…

>Sorry, I slipped.
>Don’t worry…
>I don't mind....
>>
>>292069294
>*Zoom bam*

>Ah!
>*Slip*

>*Tumble*

>Might you be Takamine-san’s party?
>My name’s Sakaki. I own the lodge Green Grass. The car’s ready for you.

>So, you’re childhood friends in your third year of middle school on a graduation trip? How lovely. That’s youth!
>I’m only a second year, however.
>We’re all in the same basketball team, and Moeka’s our manager.
>Except me…
>>
>>292069319
>15 years old… How lovely. That’s youth!
>But you know, your lives are only going to get more fun.

>Even at 48, I can’t believe how much fun I’m having day in and day out.
>You mean having a job’s fun!?
>It is when you do something you love.
>*vrrrm*

>*vrrrm*

>Once you’ve taken your luggage to your rooms, please come down to the dining hall.
>I believe you reserved two rooms. One for the boys and one for the girls, I suppose.

>Huh? Arisu, what happened to your hand?
>Oh, I just sprained it a little when skiing and had it looked at the first aid room.
>There was nothing wrong with it really.

>Tooru-kun, thanks for carrying my bags.
>It’s nothing.

>Until now, Hayato-kun was always the one to notice these things first…
>>
>>292069337
>Skiing's really hard, isn't it! I spent the whole time clinging to Takamine-senpai.
>But I still had fun!

>You were amazing, Ootsuka-senpai! You said it was your first time but you were zooming around!
>…Thank you.

>I really respect you, Ootsuka-senpai! You’re so clever, *and* good at sports!
>And you’re mature and pretty! I always wanted to talk to you!
>*kyurun*

>Hayato-kun’s always talking about you…
>Ah!
>Sorry, when we’re alone together, I always call Takamine-senpai by his first name..

>Let’s go to the dining hall. They said the food’s ready.
>Ah! Okay!

>What am I doing…
>>
>>292069367
>This is great! What is it? French cuisine or something?
>That’s a beef tendon broth.
>I don’t know what these vegetables are, but they’re tasty.
>They’re picked locally. Fatsia sprouts, bracken, and fern.

>Sakaki-san, you’ve honed your skills even further! These grilled meats are delicious!
>You’re always too kind, doctor.

>The food was delicious, wasn’t it!
>The whole lodge is really nice.
>And it’s all just 5000 yen each!
>At least, that’s what it said, anyway.
>>
>>292069386
>I’ve brought you some after-meal coffees. There’s tea for the girls too.
>Thank you!
>Excuse me…

>We all booked for 5000 yen each.
>There aren’t any additional charges are there?
>Ahaha.

>You needn’t worry about that. Sakaki-san used to be the CEO of a huge company, you see. He’s running this lodge as a hobby in his retirement.
>Wow! Is that right?
>A huge company would be quite the exaggeration!

>Are you kids at high school?
>We’re third year middle schoolers.
>You mean you’re taking 5000 yen from these middle schoolers!? That’s far too much! You’ve still got a thing or two to learn, Mr CEO!
>*Ahaha*
>Give me a break, doctor!

>Ah, Okazaki-san, let me make you some coffee.
>I’m good, thanks.

>By the way, do you know where that other girl is?
>If you mean Ootsuka-senpai, she’s…
>>
>>292069410
>I shouldn’t have come…
>This was meant to be a graduation trip between the four of us. Me and Hayato-kun, Tooru-kun and Kentarou-kun.
>I was going to confess...
>And the two of us were going to gaze at the stars together…

>That was our destiny, and yet…
>Where did I go wrong?

>Unless…
>There never was such a thing as destiny…

>*Rustle*

>Hayato-kun…
>>
>>292069433
>There you are.
>You must be cold out here. Come back inside.
>Sakaki-san.

>I’m fine, thank you.
>I’ll like to stay here a little longer.

>15 years old… You go through a lot at that age.
>That’s youth!

>Okay… but even all the way out here, it’s still dangerous for a girl all on her own at night.
>Make sure not to go any further out.
>Erm…

>Sakaki-san, what made you decide to run a lodge?
>Hm?

>Did you think you were destined to do it? Weren’t you worried if it didn’t work out?
>Ahaha

>Destiny, you say?
>How lovely.
>She must be anxious about this and that. That’s youth!
>In my case, it came down to…
>>
>>292069475
>Instinct.
>No matter what, I follow my instincts.

>When there’s something in my way, I put in the effort!
>Effort comes naturally when you’ve got a goal.

>Effort…

>*Bang!*

>Sakaki-san, what was that noise?
>I wonder… perhaps something burst.
>>
>>292069491
>Arisu! What were you doing outside!?
>I was just… watching the stars.
>Sakaki-san, what was that noise?
>Did you all heard it too?

>It sounded like a pop, or maybe a gunshot.
>I wonder if it was a hunter shooting a bear.

>It sounded a bit close for that.
>I’ll go take a look.

>Could I ask everyone to check their rooms too, please?

>Nothing out of the ordinary.
>Same here.
>Ours too. That leaves…

>Okazaki-san, excuse me.
>Okazaki-san?
>*knock knock*

>I’m coming in.
>*click*
>>
>>292069516
>Eh?
>>
>>292069538
>Wha—

>Okazaki-san?
>Wait…

>Blood?
>What…

>*Bam!*
>>
>>292069563
>Doctor!
>Sakaki-san, step back!

>What on earth…
>Doctor, he’s not…
>Dear?

>He’s dead.
>*Whosh*

>*Rattle*
>>
>>292069579
>Doctor…
>Ah…

>I’ve done all I can…
>But I’m afraid he’s dead. The body’s still warm, so it must have happened within the hour.
>The bullet wound to the head is the cause of death. That must have been the sound we heard.
>>
>>292069601
>I should introduce myself to the students.
>I’m Imai Akio. I’m a surgeon at the University of Osaka Hospital.

>Dead...?

>N—
>No way.
>What?

>Is this a prank?
>Ken!

>But, Tooru…
>Listen, man… there’s no way.
>I wouldn't do such a sick thing.

>Okazaki-san…
>Was shot with a gun.

>*Whoosh*
>And was killed.
>>
>>292069621
>Nooo!

>Moeka, relax!
>But a person's been…
>Killed…

>Dear…
>Miyuki.

>What is happening?
>Is this real?

>I can’t believe it.
>How could this…

>You lot, you said your rooms were cheap, didn’t you?
>Yeah…

>It’s not just here that’s cheap.
>Every accommodation around here’s cut their prices recently.
>>
>>292069642
>Over the past few years, there's been a string of mysterious disappearances in this area.
>Bodies have never turned up, however, so the press never made a big deal out of it.
>But the area’s reputation is in the gutter.

>…Those are just rumours. Like you just heard, it’s not as if they’re finding bodies…

>Of course! The police!

>*Flick*

>Huh?
>*Click click*
>I can’t get through!

>Oh no, no signal…
>Me too.
>We can’t use our cell phones…
>>
>>292069659
>*Whoosh*

>…Where was everyone...
>When you heard the gunshot?

>I was in the kitchen going back for more coffee.
>I was in the bathroom on the first floor.

>We were all here…
>>
>>292069685
>Wait… You’re not saying the culprit’s one of us, are you?
>No… I was outside with Ootsuka-san at the time, so I just wanted to check.

>There was a hole in the window of Okazaki-san’s room.
>I imagine the culprit must have shot him from outside.

>The culprit’s outside…
>*Whoosh*

>Erm… if the phone line’s dead…
>Shouldn’t we drive to the police station instead?
>But the culprit’s outside, aren’t they?

I>t’s also quite the blizzard.
>It would be dangerous to go at night.
>>
>>292069709
>We’ll stay here tonight…
>And go to the police in the morning.

>How come the phone’s not working, anyway?
>Our cell phones, too…

>As for the phone… the snow’s caused the line to go dead before.
>And cell phones tend to lose their signal due to blizzards too.

>But it could have been the culprit!

>Don’t be silly…
>But it can’t just be a coincidence…

>In the meantime…
>>
>>292069736
>I agree on staying here together. There are enough of us that we won’t make such easy targets.
>First, though, I want to head back to my room and bring my luggage down.
>Yes. And I’d at least like to fetch some blankets for everyone.

>Remember, don’t go alone.
>And stay away from windows.

>What?
>Why is this happening?
>*What* is happening?

>Senpai!

>I’m just going to the bathroom.
>Arisu! Don’t go alone!
>Ah, I’ll go too!
>>
>>292069780
>I can’t believe this is happening.

>I feel like I’m in a story…
>It doesn’t feel real…
>Nothing does…

>Senpai, have you worked out the culprit?
>What?

>It’s just… the culprit is usually on the inside in these sorts of things.
>And senpai, you’re so clever, and always reading books.

>…We’re not characters in a novel.
>Now’s really not the time.

>You’re right. I’m sorry.
>…It’s okay.

>It’s not the time to get angry, either...
>But everything this girl says gets on my nerves.
>I can’t be doing this right now. Someone’s been killed.
>>
>>292069796
>By the way, about Hayato-kun.

>You’re doing this now?

>I know it’s not the time, but…

>Senpai, you’re going to graduate soon. I thought this might be the last chance we get to talk properly.
>>
>>292069816
>I want you to stay away from Hayato-kun from now on.

>Why…
>Do I have to hear that…
>From you…

>I’m going out with Hayato-kun.
>It’s crazy that he’s still walking to school and stuff with some other girl!

>Some other girl…

>*Whoosh*
>>
>>292069846
>Why…
>Since when…
>Did it come to this?

>You like Hayato-kun too, right, Ootsuka-senpai?

>I feel like I’ve wandered into another world.

>But he’s my boyfriend now.

>Hayato-kun and I were destined to be together…
>We’d graduate middle school and start dating, go to the same high school, then the same university…
>Get married at a small church, have a little boy and girl of our own…
>And live together in a little white house on a hill…

>But Hayato-kun dating another girl…
>And now someone’s been killed…
>Is this really happening?

>*Creek*
>Ah...
>A tool cupboard.

>Eh?
>>
>>292069863
>*Grab*
>It seems real...?

>This thing at the end of the barrel…
>It must be a silencer.
>It prevents the gunshot being heard…
>>
>>292069889
>But I remember hearing a gunshot…
>*Bang!*
>Perhaps something burst.

>The bullet wound to the head is the cause of death.
>That must have been the sound we heard.

>Where was everyone,
>When you heard the gunshot?

>The kitchen.
>The bathroom.

>We were all here.

>I was outside with Ootsuka-san at the time.

>I know…
>Who did it…
>>
>>292069906
>If you're in love with Hayato-kun, then why didn’t you do anything?

>Do anything…?

>…I’m sorry. I shouldn’t be talking about this now, should I.
>But…
>I was determined to say this on our trip today…

>I’ll head back to our room…

>I won’t mention this again.
>So…
>Let me just tell you…
>>
>>292069932
>I put in the effort.
>Two years ago, on my first day of school, when I saw Hayato-kun, I fell in love at first sight.
>I found out what club he was in, became the manager of the basketball team despite not being interested…
>And I kept approaching him no matter how the other girls hated me for it.

>You just waited around, doing nothing, all because you’re childhood friends…
>What did you think was going to happen?

>But…
>Hayato and I are…
>Destined to be together.

>That’s all…

>Was waiting not enough?
>In order to get what I want…
>I need to put in the effort…
>>
>>292070022
>…There was no other way.

>Hayato-kun and I are…
>Destined partners.

>Destiny is real.
>If it takes effort to make it so, then I’ll do anything.
>I’ll make my own destiny.

Deserved. It was obvious that Arisu had been seething all day. Pretty stupid trying to get her riled up, considering the situation.
