I kinda hate how the series keeps modernizing the phones and some of the other basic real world tech. Like when the series started flip phones were common, then smart phones and now the mini tablet style smartphones. Current smartphones don't look like Mugino's phone solely because of technological advancement, the first iPhone could have looked like that. Developments in ergonomics and UI took a decade of people actually using the technology and giving feedback to make it more convenient.One of the reasons I like Kuroko's scroll phone is because it is both useful and a bit awkward which is what you'd expect from cutting edge technology. I like the idea of Academy City being a mix of old tech like flip phones, newer tech like smartphones and weird stuff like scroll phones, like those phones are just as powerful as todays but primitive in ergonomics because it is still 2004, or 2008, or whenever this takes place. Making the ergonomics modern makes me feel like this is supposed to be set in 2020's, it loses that early 2000's futurism vibe that I think they should have held on too. They should have gave Mugino a scroll phone or something that looks a bit like a PDA IMO but they are all in on making Academy City basically 2026 in every way.
