For a very long period they were immortal and had very active lifestyles with no proper textile industry. If it was humid, the clothes would rather quickly decay and fall from their bodies and many elves would eventually stop bothering to replace them. If Kalimdor was never contacted by Azeroth, the Draenei might have eventually embraced the night elf lifestyle too.

I can see that being the way of life for Elves. Such long lives and powerful bodies makes wearing something to cover them pointless.
Maybe the high elves with their petty competitions over who is the prettiest and dressing up in their finery, but no Night Elves. They'd rather know who is more powerful and magically capable.
