I think they're only keeping it around because they can't get rid of it for legacy reasons, but they're trying to make people stop using it. Unlike better sites like AO3 or Fanfiction.net, deviantart doesn't show literally anything about the story besides the title and a couple of words because of its retarded thumbnail system. You can't tell length, summary, chapter count, language, content, etc., so it's impossible to tell at a glance whether you want to read it or not. Everything looks like a journal. And you can't just go to another site either because nobody follows. Go to AO3 and get 1/20th of the engagement you would on deviantart, and people aren't willing to do that because they write to see and hear what people think.
