I got accepted to do a masters in Comp Sci at a very good university but I don't know if this is what I really want? This is more my parents pushing me into it as they think it will lead to jobs that pay good money. I know some computing and I'm decently good at it but I just don't think I'm interested in doing this as a career let alone studying. My dream career is to be a professional illustrator or musician but I just can't find any jobs that will allow me to earn good money doing that. I'm just not sure I want to spend my life slaving away at a computer science job that I hate and am not interested in. Is it worth it?

I too am doing a cs related degree, you dont need to be a genius to look at the current state of the job market, related to tech. Its terrible I feel demoralized as I study and go to the classes all while doing my best to network and try to get internships/entry level jobs all to get inundated with rejection letters.
>I just don't think I'm interested in doing this as a career let alone studying.
I dont even need to say much here...
>My dream career is to be a professional illustrator or musician but I just can't find any jobs that will allow me to earn good money doing that
an even harder market, you need to be lucky and network well. Its an entirely different playing field with even harsher politics and even worse mobility

take a look at this channel, pretty histrionic but overall shows how grim it is for people who have such dreams, also can be applied to the people who have dreams of a decent paying comfy tech job that will offer what most people yearn for current year especially men, stability security and some money for not only yourself but your own apartment, car and hopefully a nice lady that you can woo.

is it worth it? Maybe, Going into this degree I knew better outsourcing automation layoffs profit over people etc, but I told myself that I need to at least try and I have been, but there is a deadline and i mean it literally. You may leave your cs degree unable to even slave away at a "computer science job that I hate and am not interested in". We live in pretty grim times, not coming from some blackpilled internet psyop but rather the reality that has always been. Life isnt fair, I wish I could experience more in this lifetime, and even the small fraction of what i was able

experience i had to put in so much for so little. Overall demoralization, and dont quit your day job for illustration/music. All I can say is at least try go in all directions, your college music/illustration just whatever because the reality is we are all fucked

dude trust me when i tell you this. Just become a musician.
Since things that AI can do is losing value, things AI can't do is gaining value (like performing and playing music).
I went for STEM but a big part of me thinks I should have done music instead. If you really wanna do STEM you can go to grad school after and just take STEM courses with your music curriculum or double major. But I recommend doing music in some fashion
>>
Well my company did just buy me a brand new Porsche for excellent performance and I’ve only been working here for 8 months lol. You tell me

hate to say it, but that career is rapidly becoming dead as a dodo due to AI. Even furry illustrators are feeling the heat.

Wtf, can you even do with a degree in music? What job that pays well has a demand for those who majored in music?

don't you realize that makes you an asshole?

Two FactsL

Every single college student for at least the past 20 years studied CS and there are simply not enough jobs to go around.

There are very few situations (in any field) outside academia in which a Masters increases your job potential.

It's really very simple:

* decent paying

* creatively fulfilling

Pick one! My advice, if you have a creative spark, is to move out and pursue your dream, and embrace the fact that you will probably remain financially poor.

I'm also doing computer science in college, but I am actually doing it cause I want to get into the gaming industry instead of just wanting to get into a high-paying job and I started to feel the same ways, since I don't really want to just work at a 9 to 5 tech jobs for the rest of my life and be surrounding with a bunch of pajeet and unlikeable nerdy hipsters and shit, and I actually wanted to get into the artistic side of gaming making instead of the more technical side of it (like doing concept art or level desgin instead of just coding shit)

I do feel I would've been better off if I were to major in art and had CS as a minor instead, cause the marketing is kind of hard to get into, and you have to do a bunch of networking, internships, and being fake 24/7 just to finally get a fucking job.

But since you were forced into being a CS master, my advice is to just give up on it and tell your parents to suck your dick and become a professional illustrator or musician while using your CS skills for something that is related to those things, like, idk, make a website about your illustrations or some shit.

Have you ever played dopewars?
>>
>>33586401
NO

you can't find a job as a musician or artist IS BECAUSE YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO FREELANCE DUMMY!!!

I'm in gamedev and people complain they can't find jobs in it. I started a studio and hired 3 of my friends. Boom. I also hired programmer overseas. You don't "look" for jobs in creative fields, YOU MAKE THEM!
>>
>>33591037
LOL I'm trying to do the same thing. Can I ask how do you avoid patent trolls or if you ever confronted them?
>>
>>33591037
What game you fucking making retard?

Since you dumb nigger ass wanted to be special?

I dont know a single person who does a job related to their degree. Just get a job outside CS - a degree is just a ticket to most office jobs and nothing more at this point.

It's kinda blackpilled, but most people don't get to do their dream jobs. They graduate, get some office job, and then either job hop or get promoted to increase their salary. Sucks and sounds boring, but it is what it is.
My cousin graduated with a degree in History and works in marketing for Sony. Although he is a social butterfly so that obviously has a massive advantage.

Only people who do jobs related to their degree are vocational degree graduates - nursing, dentistry, etc.

Well first off it's an incredibly fulfilling job and you will actually love life and work. If I were to do undergrad over again, I'd have double majored in music and molecular biology (I just got a molecular biology degree) and study organ. I still would have went to medical school but I'd still play church organ every Sunday (I used to have to actually practice but if you get really good then you can just sight read).

During the peak of my music career, last year, when I was 22 years old I made 8 grand in one month (the peak month) as a freelance musician, playing church organ and picking up performances at restaurants, senior homes, etc.

I can't do that anymore because I'm in school everyday but when I'm done with school I will go back to it because it's fun. As a church organist I was making between 100 to 200 dollars per service (typically a service is an hour) and I was charging $100.00 an hour for gigs (except for regular gigs which I only charged $50.00 for) and at all the venues/restaurants you play at you get free food and free alcohol as part of it. I probably could have just done this for my whole life, if I really locked in on church organ I could've gotten a job at a Catholic church where they have mass all the time. Such a job can make $36,000 to over $100,000 a year. I haven't even touched upon music production or lessons which is a whole other way to make money.
