Hi, this is my first time on 4chan. I'd love to hear about your experiences and how you normally use the site. I'm just trying to understand the community better.

Suuure it is. I won't read yet another "I'm new to 4chan" thread posted by some creative writer wannabe magazine article writer or soap opera script writer.
>>
>>33589384
the place is not what it used to be population wise but the addictive parts of it are still here
if someone told you you're late he's probably referring to the copious ammounts of cp people used to post here and now gets promptly deleted

There's no true way. Just find your board, the one that you go to most and have the most interest in. For years I only ever visited /lit/ and then I started checking /pol/ during happenings because they had the most info the fastest. Now I just go wherever when I'm bored depending on mood.

Here's a crash course
There's two color boards: blue and "red" (it's not really red). Blue are supposed to be safe for work, red not so much.
Each board has a topic, except the various "random" boards. You should try to stay on topic, especially if you're new, because you won't know how close you can get to the edge of what's on/off topic.
Each board typically has a mix of regular threads about some specific thing, and "general" threads. "Generals" are typically containment threads for sub-topics of the board's topic. They typically have an acronym name and are surrounded by slashes (but not always). They often have a template for their OP texts too, with links and shit for newfags. There are even several generals on /adv/ about various topics. Use the "Catalog" view to look through all of the threads on a board more easily (you just see the OP images and texts)
When you post in a thread, you 'bump' it back to the top of that board, unless it hits the bump limit for a that board (typically 300 or 310, sometimes 500). If the post count becomes italicized, it's over the limit. Read the help page about how to reply and cross-thread reply and even cross-board reply.
Some boards are a lot faster than others.
Best way to start is pick a board with a topic that you find interesting, look for threads or even generals on something more specific you're interested, and lurk for a while, then post something bland that no one will reply to. If you stick around long enough, you'll learn how to farm (You)s by shitposting

Basically what >>33590156 said.
But I’ll add a few things.
> how you normally use the site
Mostly as a replacement for an old Reddit addiction. The bearer of entry to even post is enough to actually spend less time online. And no one takes this bullshit as seriously.
The rest of the time it’s just taking advantage of being able to discuss my schzio musings about the world.

Remember the following through:
1. You are anonymous. You should stay anonymous.
This is not social media. This is a far worse cesspool. Someone out there will care about what you post and you don’t want them to care.
2. We say crazy shit. We are not to be trusted. We are here for brutality honest feedback at best. Some boards have useful information. Some are just for fun. Neither should just be trusted.
3. We post too much fucking porn. I personally don’t, but too many people run on coomer brain to not mention it.

I quickly glance through the catalog on /pol/ once most days and see if any of the thread topics are interesting enough. You're looking for gold in a trash can, but when that rare occasion happens it's worth the time spent lurking. I don't engage with the others unless I think they can answer a question I may have. Trying to persuade others and do political activism in general and especially on that board is a waste of time unless you like doing it and can't think of anything better to do. I use the other boards every now and then when I feel like it.

Lately, I've been really enjoying /adv/. I'm kind of using like I use to use yahoo answers. I still haven't made myself laugh that hard yet, but I can feel it coming. I really miss the nievity and credulousness of the yahoo answers userbase. The fact that people didn't know what trolls were back then made it 1000x funnier.

Velkommen, neue freund! So what do you think of the jews?
>>
>>33589181
i am too about maybe 2 weeks its very fun yes just browse i like all the misc ones i like the video game generals one but i just really like being anonymous because what i say here? that im new? i would never admit that if i had a profile or something idk im terrified of these people here but everywhere else i act like ive been using it for years. but atp nobody notices so. but its just fun to post idk maybe ill think about it more but its just like the most addictive and most internet thing ever idk how this hasnt been copied by meta or tik tok or something. maybe it just wouldnt last though because a big part of 4chan is how its comparitevely uncensored. anyways you see how im typing bullshit? okay goodbye and youll never know who i am and youll never be able to tell from anyones post who i am
